The organization claims that it is possible to believe in Jesus and still remain a Jew; this is referred to as a Messianic Judaism. However, others claim that they simply want to convert Jews to a belief in Christianity.
Jews for Jesus claim that all their missionaries are Jewish; critics say many never were. It is a controversial organization especially among American Jewry, and provokes hostility. University students and other allegedly socially vulnerable groups are approached by Jews for Jesus. They have also sent their members to the Ukraine and Russia.
