In spite of her local success, she states she wasn't happy with her sound and that she had to spend years learning how to produce and learning about sound design so that she could reproduce sound she heard in her head. In reference to her melodies, she describes them as being, "soaring pop, borderline theatrical Disney," while her lyrics are, "always seem to be darker." She has described her songwriting process as being like a, "science experiment: you take this person's brain and that person's brain and you put them in a room for hours and see what they make out of nothing." In pondering why she is enjoys the macabre, she states that she is expressing her shadow-self.
