A chief administrative officer (or CAO) is a corporate officer responsible for management of the personnel of the corporation. The CAO is one of the highest ranking members of an organization, monitoring the daily operations of the company and reporting to the chief executive officer directly. In some companies, the CAO is also the president.

In a municipal context, the title is often used as an alternative for city manager.
