Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.
    Shortcuts

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Ex Machina (film) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection: One or more IP hoppers repeatedly removing sourced critical reception content without discussion. Flyer22 (talk) 22:09, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Deryck C. 22:27, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

Bidding fee auction (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP edit war, no attempts to resolve it on the talk page, admins may consider bans for edit warring. Winner 42 Talk to me! 21:42, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 2 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Deryck C. 22:04, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

    Pitch Perfect 2 (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. Many uncited, inaccurate, or unnecessary additions to page. TropicAces (talk) 21:12, 16 May 2015 (UTC)tropicAces

Not done. The amount of vandalism as a proportion of total number of IP / new user edits is not high enough for protection to be appropriate. Deryck C. 22:06, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

    FIFA 15 (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism after a six-month temporary ended. '''tAD''' (talk) 20:53, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

    Bhumi Pednekar (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Create protection: Repeatedly recreated. Wgolf (talk) 20:32, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

Creation protected for a period of 1 year, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Deryck C. 22:26, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

    Nando's (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – it’s when u and the lads are having a bit of banter in town and ur mate is like “im hungry lets go greggs” but then ur like “nah man not feeling a pasty lets go somewhere else” and then ur top mate (probs called Gaz) is like “oi lads lets go for a cheeky nandos” and ur like oh gaz ur a ledge. Cloudchased (talk) 20:11, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Deryck C. 22:01, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

    Memphis Depay (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-protection: Again, inexperienced users are changing this player's team. He is moving team in the summer, which is clearly indicated all over the article, but some people are too stubborn for that '''tAD''' (talk) 19:27, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

John F. Kennedy Jr. plane crash (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection: Can semi-protection be set for longer this time, please? Not long after the last semi-protection expired, the usual IPs (probably a single, slightly obsessive user) resumed making the same disruptive edits. It's getting tedious. --Deeday-UK (talk) 19:17, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

    Anne Tammel (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Seems to keep on having stuff like the templates removed (and the afd has been removed as well) all by a huge COI (possibly sockpuppetry) as well. Wgolf (talk) 18:42, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

    Sture Bergwall (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

    Semi-protection: - IP disruption.--BabbaQ (talk) 18:24, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

    Giuliano Mignini (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

    Semi-protection: - continued disruption by a POV editor.--BabbaQ (talk) 18:24, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

Jatt In London (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

So Fresh: The Hits of Autumn 2015 (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. Repeating disruptive edits to the tracklisting by IP. Disruptive edits are increasing. ilovechristianmusic (Talk to me!)

Declined. The last edit was 12 hours ago. This looks like a bunch of childish nonsense that probably won't reoccur. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 17:56, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level

    Shortcuts

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Talk:Inspire (magazine) (edit | article | history | links | watch | logs)

    End semi-protection

I recently started a thread on the Village Pump where people generally seemed to agree that talk pages should not be indefinitely semi-protected. One of the talk pages that is presently semi-protected is Talk:Inspire (magazine), since June 6, 2013, with the stated reason "Persistent violations of WP:LINKVIO, IP editors socking". I raised this at that page and at Jehochman's talk page and wasn't able to persuade him; User:Newyorkbrad came in to favor the permanent semi-protection, but I want more discussion because it's totally out of the range of normal policy.

The decision to exclude source links from the article, let alone the talk page, is controversial, for example in the "Example of the Magazine" and "Website URL?" threads from the talk page. Excluding the IP editors who posted the links clearly biases the discussion, and even if you simply look at all the editors commenting, there is no genuine consensus to exclude them at all.

Even if the links fail WP:EL, it is not our policy to censor all discussion of a link based on the remarkable claim that it is "contributory copyright infringement" against al-Qaida to mention it. This is clearly a matter of people censoring what they want, without regard to policy.

Yet this is one of very few articles in Category:Semi-protected talk pages - it will inevitably be seen either as an error or as a precedent. A precedent that admins can supervote over IPs and ban them as a class from the discussion in order to win the argument. A precedent that there are sources Misplaced Pages is unwilling to look at, even though they are legally distributed in the U.S. A precedent that for any given article there is a right POV and a wrong POV, and only the former can be allowed to be looked at.

If there were truly a national security reason to block people from looking at al-Qaida's lousy magazine, I don't think it would be left to Misplaced Pages admins to make the decision about it. So don't pretend you're the Parliament of the World and don't compromise our values for the sake of amateur not-a-law enforcement. Wnt (talk) 17:15, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

Declined This isn't the correct venue for generating a wider discussion. And given the discussion at Talk:Inspire (magazine)#Request for unprotection I doubt that anybody will unprotect the talk page any time soon. I suggest that a Misplaced Pages:Requests for comment will get the attention of more editors. By the way the link to the Village pump is actually Misplaced Pages:Village pump (policy)/Archive 119#Semi-protected talk pages shouldn't be. Current requests for edits to a protected page

Further information: Misplaced Pages:Edit requests Shortcut

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Fulfilled/denied requests

A rolling archive of the last seven days of protection requests can be found at Misplaced Pages:Requests for page protection/Rolling archive.
