Monster Magnet and heavy metal

Regarding your recent revert, I (not to mention the band itself) personally agree with you that Monster Magnet isn't a heavy metal band, but it seems that reliable sources and established consensus here on Misplaced Pages do not. That is, the band is often categorized as a heavy metal band by music retailers and the music industry press. Indeed, most news coverage of this band (not to mention coverage of the album in question) comes from heavy metal magazines. And here on Misplaced Pages Monster Magnet albums appear in other lists of heavy metal albums. I think that in order for your reversion to stand we'd need to establish a new community consensus here. Those magazines aren't "metal only". For example, Blabbermouth.net or Loudwire. They write news about metal and rock artists, but their main subject is metal-related music. That doesn't automatically make every band there a "metal" band. Now does it? If they write something about ZZ Top or Journey and someone is willing to add them to 2014 in heavy metal music or some other "xxxx in heavy metal music" page, I'm just going to delete it. Or we could find a compromise and let people add these kind of artists to 2014 in heavy metal music page, but make a strong claim so people would abstain from adding such bands to 2015 in heavy metal music and newer pages concerning metal music.—Sabbatino (talk) 08:26, 11 September 2014 (UTC)

I agree that coverage in heavy metal press doesn't automatically make a band a heavy metal band; I was just offering this as one explanation for the widespread (but IMHO mistaken) belief that Monster Magnet is a heavy metal band. But there's no point in keeping the band off individual heavy metal lists on Misplaced Pages; this is something which needs to be implemented across the board or not at all. Otherwise we end up with strange and glaring inconsistencies, such as their appearance in about a dozen of the previous " in heavy metal music" lists but not on 2014 in heavy metal music, etc. Since removing Monster Magnet from these lists and other heavy metal–themed articles would affect a large number of pages, would you be interested in starting an RFC to establish a new community consensus? —Psychonaut (talk) 08:51, 11 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi Sabbatino. I see that you've reverted the edit again, this time with the rationale that the entry is unsourced. However, you seem content with leaving over a dozen similarly unsourced entries in the list. I understand that you disagree with the band's widely accepted genre classification here, but selective enforcement of our content guidelines isn't a particularly good way of addressing the problem. 2014 in heavy metal music

Hey Sabbatino,

Thanks for your reflections on my edits, much appreciated. I know Devilment is not on Wiki yet, but it is a band fronted by Dani Filth, so I am quite sure it will be picked up as soon as their career or catalogue becomes a bit more substantial. And I don;t think someone will bother to edit this particular list again when building the new Wiki for Devilment. So I did that as an encouragement to anyone who could gather the info to show objective readers they belong here. But I am receptive to arguments. I am watching Serie A right now and Napoli can still reach Champions League, it is 10 minutes left. And none of the Greek teams have the round decided as they may finish everything between 3rd and 5th. We already have notes for teams that have qualified but not decided what round they will play in. Country names

Country names shouldn't be linked unless they are likely to be misunderstood, confused with another country or unknown to the average reader. Therefore many defunct countries are linked. Hungary and Poland are not defunct countries – you're talking about official names, names by which no average person called these countries, and these names are not relevant to articles about racing drivers. In the 80s, 99.9% of English speakers referred to Hungary and Poland as Hungary and Poland, and we stick to common names outside articles where these formal titles are relevant. For the same reasons, in the Schumacher article for example, we refer to West Germany, and not the Federal Republic of Germany. Cheers, Bretonbanquet (talk) 17:03, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

I didn't really knew such things as my country was under communist-rule after WWII. But when thinking about that, we also called every country by they short forms no matter what. Brooklyn Nets

I'm sure you mean well, but just so you know, this is not vandalism. In New York City we often treat the borough as if it were a city, and indeed this is how they are referred to by mailing address. E.g. your address would 123 Main St, Brooklyn, NY, not New York, NY. Other articles also seem to follow the same pattern, such as Barclays Center (Brooklyn), or Flushing Meadows–Corona Park (Queens). We should probably take to the talk page to discuss this further, but I just wanted to ask you to be more careful about labeling edits as vandalism, as it can be a deterrent to new users. I find it very strange that mixed in a bunch of other productive and helpful edits, you decided to vandalize Golden State Warriors, while calling your edit reverting vandalism, by removing mention of their title from the lede. A good faith edit is when there's a source. And furthermore, that edit is not relevant. Who cares if that player is first from his country to be drafted into NHL. You don't see other players from their countries to be mentioned in articles as the first to be drafted from country X. That user keeps reverting everything I edit and harasses me everywhere. Handpolk, Sabbatino does seem to have merit to his claim that you are following him around reverting a lot of stuff. Included in that is this, which appears to be you re-inserting a dead link in place of the official team website. So no, you do not appear to be occupying a high ground either. In fact, you both seem to be edit warring across multiple articles right now, and I suggest you both stop. (As an aside, something like this is just terribly formatted, and like I suggest below, the proper course when an addition like that is challenged is to discuss whether the addition is appropriate on a talk page.)

That said, Sabbatino, his revert in this particular case still isn't vandalism, obvious or otherwise. Nor is your dispute on the 2015 NBA Hall of Fame class.
