The University of Gibraltar will open its doors on the 21st September 2015. It would be the first university in the territory, and cost around £10 million to create. It was formally estabilished in July 2015 and will be led by Professor Daniella Tilbury who has been appointed as Vice-Chancellor and CEO of the University of Gibraltar, and will be chaired by Jose Julio Pisharello.

The university is to be modeled on the University of Seychelles. In 2014, the latter announced a partnership for collaboration and student exchanges with Gibraltar. It will host the 19th Calpe Conference in September 2015.
