Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Shortcuts
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

America's Got Talent (season 3)
Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP vandalism is all too regular on this article, with the injection of fraudulent information that this U.S. NBC program somehow instead originated in Singapore and had a different Season 3 winner than is shown on the AGT website. Semi-protection: Repeated disruptive editing by very persistent IP-hopper in Dubai/UAE, making claims against both mainstream academic consensus and the definition of "university" we use on en-WP (see University#Definition). The article was semi'd for four days on 8th October, but right efter the protection expired they started again. Request longer protection this time. Thomas.W 06:46, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- This user "thomas.w" has provided deceptive edit summaries repeatedly and carried out a disruptive editing behavior suggestive of cabalism. I provided three top reliable and trustful sources on the thopic (2 of them are UNESCO & Guinness world records) while he himself, on the other hand, didnt provide any source. he claimed falsely that i am against mainstream academia and against the defination of "university". He is solely a liar and a twister. --37.245.191.80 (talk) 08:04, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- Madrasahs are not universities and never have been, and thus can't possibly have been the first universities. And they wouldn't have been the first universities even if the definition is widened to include schools of that kind, since Christian cathedral schools filled the same role as madrasahs, i.e. as institutions of higher learning, during the middle ages, and predate Islamic madrasahs (at least two still existing cathedral schools, in Rochester, UK, founded in 597AD, and Peterborough, UK, founded in 604AD, predate Islam, and several others were established much earlier...). Facts that aren't changed by pointing at a couple of non-academic sources. Thomas.W 08:22, 13 October 2015 (UTC) (The reason I reply here is that the IP-hopper has a different IP almost every time they log on, and thus doesn't have a permanent talk page,)
- The arabic word "madrasa مدرسة" literally means: "place of studying". The latin word "universitas" has roughly the same meaning of the arabic word "madrasa". When you speak arabic you will use the word madrasa and when you speak a latin language you will use the word "universitat". This clearly indicates that the Europeans copied the concept of "the place of studying" from the Arabs. Al-Qarawiyyin is the first "place of studying" to grants its students degrees upon attending certain curriculum and passing certain exams. This is why it is considered to be the first university in the world by both UNESCO and Guinness world records. Reliable mainstream academia also consider alqarawiyyin to be the first university. All what the europeans did is that they learned in our universities and developed their own. See Pope Sylvester II for example. He studied in al Qarawiyyin university. Why did he choose to study in al-Qarawiyyin and not in ur cathedral churches!--37.245.169.126 (talk) 08:58, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- Totally wrong. "University" comes from Latin "universitas" and means "a number of persons associated into one body, a society, company, community, guild, corporation, etc.". Which is exactly why madrasahs weren't universities, degrees conferred by madrasahs, if there even were any degrees, were conferred/awarded by a single teacher at their discretion, i.e. without a set standard, meaning that the value of the degree depended solely on the standing of the teacher, while degrees from universities were conferred by the corporation that made up the university, based on a single standard used by all universities, meaning that a degree had the same value regardless of which university it was awarded by. Thomas.W 09:15, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- Totally wrong. The latin word "universitas" is used specifically to refer an organized "place of studying". This is exactly what the Arabic word "madrasa مدرسة" refers to. See Cambridge dictionaries which define the term "university" as " the place where people study for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree". Your personal defination of the term "university", by the way, is souceless and absolutely invalid.
- Al-Qarawiyyin university was the first organized place of studying to grant its students degrees upon attending certain curriculum and passing certain exams. This is why the United Nation's UNESCO considered it to be the first and the oldest university in the world.--37.245.179.107 (talk) 11:49, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- That's not the mainstream definition of university. The mainstream definition, especially for medieval universities, emphasises the corporation, i.e is that it's an institution for higher learning where degrees are awarded by a corporation, not by individual teachers, and to a set standard, common to all universities so that degrees were transferable from one university to another (and teachers were able to move from one university to another). And that is also the definition we use here. Thomas.W 12:14, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

- The editor is now at three reverts today (#1,#2, #3), using a different IP each time, and obviously has no intention to stop. Which is the exact same behaviour that lead to the previous protection. Thomas.W 14:47, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

Full protection: Continued edit warring to revert a decision taken at AFD to redirect this article. As I was the one to take this to AfD, I prefer that another admin protects this article. Current requests for reduction in protection level
ShortcutsBefore posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Current requests for edits to a protected page
Further information: Misplaced Pages:Edit requests ShortcutIdeally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
Fulfilled/denied requests
A rolling archive of the last seven days of protection requests can be found at Misplaced Pages:Requests for page protection/Rolling archive.
