The simplest answer to that is Misplaced Pages is not a soapbox. There are plenty of online forums and Blogs that people can rant on 24/7. Anger22 01:41, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Led Zep Article

My edit is perfectly rational: the discography section consumes far too much space and makes the page cumbersome. All of the information presented in it may be offered in a link, which contains even more information on that specific topic.71.76.212.61 15:59, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Metallica article

Hey Anger22... just wondering about the Metallica article. You probably know better than I do, but the link you pointed me to for citation (RIAA top sellers) is invalid. What is to be done? Musikxpert 21:37, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

I redid the infobox change at Afghanistan. Thanks for letting me know about this. -- Rick Block (talk) 23:37, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

RE:Need your help....any Admins eavesropping can field this one.

Well, I post it up at WP:AIV, where the sock usually gets banned within 2-3 minutes. As for tagging, I think you just put up a {{sockpuppet}} template on his user page. Cheers, Master of Puppets 00:35, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi Anger22, thank you for voting in my RFA which failed eventually at a result of (91/51/8). I do not plan to run for adminship until a later date. Once again, I would like to thank you for voting. --Terence Ong (talk | contribs) 15:06, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

DVD+R/W's RfA

Thank you for your support in my RfA, which ended with the result of (74/0/0). If there is anything I can help with feel free to ask. Also, if there is anything I am doing wrong, please point that out as well. I look forward to working with you in the future.

Hello Anger22, and thank you so much for voting in my recent RfA. I am pleased to inform you that it passed with a final tally of (119/1/3), into the WP:100, so I have now been cleared for adminship and will soon be soaring above the clouds. I was overjoyed, shocked, and humbled by the tally, and, most importantly, all the support. Thank you. If there is ever anything you need, you know where you can find me. Take care.

That was some disgusting vandalism you caught there on my user page!--digital_me 22:19, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

"Dragong4"

Sadly, the fact that it's a shared Comcast IP makes it difficult to talk the admins into blocking the IP for any notable length of time. You could note on the IP's talk page that posts coming from that IP signed "Dragong4" are clearly from a banned user name, but that would only make them stop using the signature once they noticed it, rather than giving up. Best to just keep an eye on any posts coming from the IP address - they've caused enough disruption that I'm sure they're on many vandal patrollers' IP lists, and folks like thee and me can keep an eye for the more subtle disturbances on our favourite bands. Thanks for sending me the heads up in the first place. - dharmabum 10:44, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Gibraltarian

Thanks for reverting Gibraltarian's vandalism to my userpage the other day. In the future, feel free to block him immediately (any IP in the 212.120 range vandalizing my userpage or anything related to Gibraltar). He doesn't seem to be tiring of these games, and with a dynamic IP, it's tough to stop him. Just be sure to make the blocks short. Thanks again! --Spangineer (háblame) 18:05, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, I thought you were an admin (your edit summary is identical and I've seen you around doing vandalism patrol quite a bit). You do have to be an admin to block users. Looks like you've been working hard since March, so I'd say give it another month or two and you'll easily pass the WP:RfA process. Just keep out of trouble—the ability to deal with stress is one of an admin's most important qualities. Some people on WP:RfA might like it if you'd put more effort into creating articles, but if fighting vandalism and POV is your thing, you shouldn't have any trouble getting promoted. --Spangineer (háblame) 22:14, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your support in my RfA!

Hello Anger22, and thanks for your support in my recent RfA. I'm pleased to announce that it passed with a final tally of (96/0/0). I was overwhelmed by all of the nice comments and votes of confidence from everyone. Thanks again, and see you around! OhNoitsJamie 16:42, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Copying text

Copying anything from an external source, even if the source is named, isn't acceptable unless the text is licensed appropriately. Sometimes text from the 1911 encyclopedia britannica will be used, because it's public domain, and in rare cases an author will release his/her work with a free license compatible with the GFDL. Normally though, anything copied from another website is a copyright violation and must be reverted. In this case, not only is it a copyright violation, it's using a primary source, which is further frowned upon. To properly improve that section, one would need to consult a biography (preferably print) not written by B.B. King, and would have to incorporate information from there into the article (not copying it though). Hope that helps, and sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. --Spangineer (háblame) 13:25, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Syd's death and Pink Floyd

LOL, you did give me a start for a moment (I've been waiting for it). It's sad that the death of a great musician can actually bring out the worse in some people.

I've listened to nothing today but Barrett; all the bootlegs, singles, Piper and his solo stuff. First time the death of an entertainer has really given me a start. It makes hearing him sing "Wouldn't you miss me at all?" in "Dark Globe" that much more poignant. - dharmabum 22:57, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Re: Yngwie

Oops! I noticed you fixed the section right after I typed that response. I actually was responded based on my memory of reading it a couple days ago. Your revision is spot-on, thanks! --Aguerriero (talk) 14:43, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

The Who

The bit about their recent gig at Leeds Uni? The best thing that I can think to do is just revert the whole thing. It was pretty good as it was before, but now not only is it a copyvio, but it's way too long for what is essentially one gig. Can you think of a less objectionable way of doing it? To be honest, the entire history section needs to be lopped in half to stop the article as a whole being dauntingly lengthy, as it is at the moment. Anyway, thanks for the heads-up and I'll see you around, no doubt. MightyMoose22 18:28, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Les Claypool discog

While we're in the same place at the same time, I've done a couple of tests of this man's discog at my sandbox, but I'm not really happy with either of them. The top list-ish table looks a little too busy and the bottom full table is just huge. Do you have any ideas to tweak them at all? MightyMoose22 19:24, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

List of Best Selling Artists

Hi Anger22,

I have received a message for "vandalism" : No, I have only edit a fake information. The list of Best Selling Artists in this encyclopedia is completely fake, based on unverified claims. I'm working for the SNEP (the French equivalent to the RIAA in USA) and I'm pointing out worldwide cumulative albums sales for each artists. I have only edit the list of best selling artist with realistic sales figures, not like those figures which still online at the moment which are not at all true.82.231.162.164 19:18, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

NOTE: The Anon IP did not actually edit any information, but simply added the word 'FAKE' to many of the cited entries. There are proper ways to edit/correct Misplaced Pages articles...that certainly isn't one of them. User received a test warning from me. There was, I suspect a long line of editors about to take the same action I did. If the user shows retraint and edits Misplaced Pages following Misplaced Pages policies I will remove the warning. Anger22 19:31, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Collective nouns in UK usage

I don't believe that is entirely correct. LearnEnglish.org.uk, an organisation of the British Council, states that "in British English, singular words like family, team, government, which refer to groups of people, can be used with either singular or plural verbs and pronouns".

It also goes on to state that "Singular forms are more common when the group is seen as an impersonal unit" and gives the following examples:

  • "My firm was founded in the 18th century."
  • "The average British family has 3.6 members. It is smaller and richer than 50 years ago."

Also at English collective nouns: In British English, collective nouns can be treated as either singular or plural depending on the context. For example, "the team is in the dressing room" refers to the team as an ensemble, whilst "the team are fighting amongst themselves" refers to the team as individuals.

It is clear that in the Led Zeppelin article, the collective noun "Led Zeppelin" is refering to the band as an ensemble, not as individuals acting independently. Because using the plural verb for some collective nouns is more common in the UK, Brits tend to colloquially err towards that trend, but it is still "proper British grammar" to use the singular when refering to a group as an ensemble.

Also, the intro is the only paragraph where this (mis)usage occurs. The singular is used in every other instance in the article.--WilliamThweatt 21:50, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

I wasn't suggesting an edit war. Far from it, I was just trying to convey my understanding of the proper usage. I'm totally open to further edification if I am wrong. (However, if I am wrong, many pages here need to be changed, including style pages.) I was aware of the rule British subject-->British English but it is my contention that it is ungrammatical even in "proper" British English, although it is admittedly somewhat common/acceptable in colloquial British usage. And thanks for the "heads-up" on that disruptive user. I, too, am a big fan and keep the page on my watch list only to revert vandals, before today I hadn't made a single edit to the content. I'll try to ignore him as you advise. Regards.--WilliamThweatt 22:42, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

re: expanding the Guitarist project

Howdy. I would absolutely be in favor of expanding the project to include equipment. Are you interested in starting a thread about it on the Project talk page, maybe when you get back from your trip? We could hash out notability guidelines and such. I am really pleased that the project has taken off as it has - the number of participants and the quality of contributions has far exceeded my meager expectations.

And while we're on the subject:

List of Telecaster players

Regarding your comment: I used the red links as a quick and dirty indicator of notability, realizing that there might be a few that should be added back in. The most important thing to get this list into good shape will be finding and adding the references. I've started with a Jimmy Bryant reference, but there are a lot more to be added! I have the books to do a decent job, but it will take me a while. Help in this task would be much appreciated! Thank you! Rohirok 04:33, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Hello Anger22. I tagged the Bickert entry for citation after removing the link to the tripod personal webpage, since "personal websites... are largely not acceptable as sources." Do you have a reference you can provide from a magazine or book?
I am deleting unsourced additional entries on sight, especially those added by anonymous users. I will make efforts to find sources for entries that do appear to have some merit. You had mentioned some guitarists such as Don Rich which I had deleted earlier. I have found references for some of them and will be adding them in as I have time--unless, of course, you beat me to the punch. Thanks for your help! Rohirok 20:14, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Hello Anger22. I was pleased to have the Stuart link. I had already gone ahead and added details right when I noticed the new link. I realize there are probably people I've deleted that do belong, and will be making a list of such people on the talk page so everyone concerned can take an opportunity to discuss their merit and find references. Have fun with all the sheep and kiwis! Rohirok 13:35, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Michael White

Excuse me. What is the objection with the Michael White reference? I actually have two of the three albums and it is a well-known tribute combo for Zeppelin fans. --Trencacloscas 15:05, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

But I created the "red link" so I could fill it. I had no time for anything. And it is not an article about myself, I have nothing to do with the band. --Trencacloscas 15:26, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Pink Floyd WikiProject

Hi! I've seen you around on Pink Floyd articles... Would you consider becoming a member of WikiProject Pink Floyd, a WikiProject which aims to expand and improve coverage of Pink Floyd on Misplaced Pages? Please feel free to join us.

- dharmabum 08:34, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Todo list:
Fair use

Articles

  • Expand all articles to at least Start class. Some song stubs can't be expanded and should be redirected to the relevant album article. Use the "Interstellar Overdrive" article as an example when editing a song stub.
  • Expand all of the Floyd's studio album articles to at least GA status.
  • See COTM for monthly collabs.

Project building

  • Add WikiProject Pink Floyd banner {{WPFloyd}} to all appropriate Talk pages.
  • Personally invite quality editors working on Pink Floyd articles to join the project.

If you complete one of these tasks, please remove it from the list.

No problem... and a wow.

Wow, you were at the 77/07/06 Montreal show? Amazing, part of the biggest slice of Pink Floyd history. I have a terrific recording of that concert (although only in 192kbps MP3, I ditched the FLACs during a desperate hard drive crash), much better than the widely available "Azimuth Coordinator" recorder. If you're interested we can work out a way to get it to you, drop me an email.

I was, sadly, only three years old during that concert, and my first experience with Floyd wouldn't come until the AMLoR tour. I'm looking forward to seeing Roger in October down in Seattle.

Maybe you can answer a question for me... I've always heard conflicting stories about the spitting incident. Supposedly, it happened at the end of the first set, at the end of "Pigs (Three Different Ones)". You can hear Roger in the concert recordings, saying to somebody, "Come on boy, all is forgiven! C'mere! Come on boy, good boy!" and so on during the closing minutes of the song. He continues with this for a bit, sometimes making some of his weird "ahhh-ahh-ahh" screechy gutteral noises. Legend says that this was Roger calling the crazed fan up across the security netting before spitting in his face.

The conflicting bit is that this story often also says that Gilmour was disgusted with this and went off to watch the rest of the concert from the sound board. However, Gilmour is clearly present throughout the second set (Wish You Were Here) and supposedly only went down to the soundboard during the improvised third encore after "Us and Them", a blues jam with only Snowy White on guitar.

Did you see or infer enough from that night to remember exactly when the spitting incident occurred? It was obviously hard to see from most places in the stadium so I'd understand if you don't, but the story has so much legend around it it's hard to get a reliable answer.

Sorry this turned into a bit of an essay, but it's been nagging at me for years. Thanks for joining the Wikiproject. If you see anyone else you think might be interested, feel free to drop an invitation on their talk page. Just place this template on their page:

{{WikiProject Pink Floyd Invite|- ~~~~}}

and you'll see it appear just as it did on your page. - dharmabum 06:48, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

re: WikiProject Guitarists glitch

Heya, I fixed the problem. The user that posted inserted an errant "nowiki" tag in the middle of his text, which made it so the software didn't render anything we typed after that. Have a good weekend! --Aguerriero (talk) 03:35, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Metallica Article

Hiya, many thanks for the heads up on the Metallica article. The lead-in vandalism you mention sounds extremely annoying! I'll keep a regular eye on it too, and improve where I can...

I thought 90 million albums sounded a little low too but as you say, primary sources seem to be scarce. Will keep looking! Anyway speak soon... DavidLaurenson 18:39, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

um... no

Nowhere on that web site dose it say it is the most frequently requested song on FM radio stations in the United States.

I am noticing that. The cite appears to ref the "popular song" statement. But it's in the wrong place. It should come earlier in the text. Fell free to move it up and put the tag back on the FM comment. That should have a cite as well. Anger22 16:19, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
That statement should be in a section such as "Popularity" as in the Bohemian Rhapsody article.
I don't agree with removing the cite completely. Anger22 16:51, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

WikiProject Guitar update

Howdy - have you been following the progress toward including equipment in our project? Another editor had created an Equipment WikiProject, and I think we are going to try to merge it into ours. What I want to do for now is set up a mirror project for equipment where we can establish the same things we have established for guitarists - article content, infobox, etc. Sound good? --Aguerriero (talk) 16:28, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Hey there! I've created the user infobox and the talk page template, please give comment, especially on the image. And one more thing, it seems people do not really discuss this thing, as there is no real discussion on the project page, I have no idea why. Thanks! :) Imoeng 07:57, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Minor edit?

I don't think I'd consider adding an infobox a "minor" edit. —Chowbok 16:38, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Ninja vandals

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. My normal haunt, WP:FAC, is currently the subject of mass controversy, so I've been quite wrapped up. I've warned a few users and added a note to the talk page of Baddeck, Nova Scotia. If anyone adds such information again without a verifiable source, revert. Don't worry about 3RR; that doesn't apply to vandalism. Try WP:AIV again; just say that vandals are repeatedly adding unsourced and obviously false information. If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll protect the article. --Spangineer (háblame) 03:44, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

White Stripes

i recently added information to the hello operator and de stijl album pages that you reverted because it was "nonsense". i only wrote what some people believe and it is a conspiracy that meg white died in a car accident and was replaced by a robot. you can read so yourself at http://www.geocities.com/wilhelmina_wonka/ws.html i am not affiliated with this page, nor do i believe in the conspiracy, but the fact is there is an actual conspiracy that some subscribe to and i believe people have a right to know. this was based on real opinions and should not be considered vandalism. thank you.

Cleared for now then. Anger22 00:35, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

The Who

Why in your expert opinion are the Who a heavy metal band please Anger?? MarkThomas 10:54, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

It doesn't refer to any of them as heavy metal. It says "heavier styles of rock n roll"...which they certainly were. Anger22 11:01, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
