Linking to Flash-requiring site and Alfakim/Albotim
This is a continuation of an archived discussion. See User talk:Alfakim/Archive2#Linking to Flash-requiring site and Alfakim/Albotim
Thanks for taking this up Armedblowfish it's really appreciated. I don't get it though... should I now continue to linkspam the official site? -- Alfakim -- talk 13:05, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- No problem. I guess so, though "linkspam" is not really an accurate term. I looked at WP:EL, the style guide Naconkantari cited. Apparently, it is more acceptable to link to plain HTML pages that then link to rich media, so I propose switching to the front page (which offers links to high and low bandwidth version, and a download of Flash). I also suggest directly citing WP:EL and why this is acceptable in the comment. You may also consider a brief explanation in your edit summary. (Note: I also looked for a non-Flash mirror, but could not find one.):
== External links == * . MGM. Visited June 8, 2006. Most of site requires ]. <!-- There is a synopsis of the episode in there, but it cannot be linked to directly to our knowledge. Though the URL above contains links to the rest of the site (which is Flash), it itself is not Flash, in accordance with WP:EL. Even if it were, it is acceptable because it is a) the official Stargate site and b) being used as a reference. -->

About vandalizing...
I find this whole situation amusing. I haven't been vandalizing Misplaced Pages, and I didn't leave a message "I am not vandalizing! Stop talking to me!" on whatever that page is. I don't understand why my IP address (I assume that that's my computer, so correct me if I'm wrong) is leaving vandalism. I've never edited any of those pages I keep getting scolded about! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.226.18.30 (talk • contribs) 16:24 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Stargate Story
Hi, I just added to both of your stories. What do you think? Tobyk777 20:13, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- Cool. Although you put season 10 stuff into the S9 bit.. but no worries :P. I'd like to see many more project members involved with this it could be very cool. -- Alfakim -- talk 02:37, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
Added more to the story

Uh.. have we corresponded before? Your point is...? Considering that you are referencing what is essentually a "dead issue" I had to ask. TTFN

- no, no previous correspondence. just saw the issue and was compelled to converse. (also i didnt realise it was "dead") -- Alfakim -- talk 18:46, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
- I was just letting them know where I stood. Even though the desision to delete (inspite of the original results) was upheld, I wanted them to know that I had not been swayed. Even though the matter is a "dead issue", I wanted it clear that i had not changed my mind. My opinions are my own. And I was letting them be known. Can you help me with a template?
I saw you on a list of template experts, so I thought I'd see if you could help me out? Does it help if I'm also a SG-1 fan? :-) I've create an infobox for Jane Austen characters, but for some reason the image is not appearing. What am I doing wrong? Here's the template: {{JAustenCharacter}} and here's an example with image not showing :-P

Request for Adminship
It is my regretful task to inform you that your recent request for adminship failed to achieve consensus to promote, and has been closed. Please do not be discouraged; a number of users have had their first RfA end without consensus, but have been promoted overwhelmingly in a later request. Please continue to make outstanding contributions to Misplaced Pages, and consider requesting adminship again in the future. You may find Misplaced Pages:Guide to requests for adminship helpful in deciding when to consider running again. If I can be of any help to you, please do not hesitate to ask. Essjay (Talk • Connect) 18:49, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
- Alfakim, I hope you'll reapply after you get some more of certain types of experience as noted in some of the comments. I opposed your RfA on experience only this time -- you seem like a great potential administrator. (Also, if it makes you feel any better, I wouldn't vote for myself either with my present level of experience.) --A. B. 04:47, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks A. B. but I'm not the type of person who'd put myself up for adminship someone else has to nominate me, I think that's the better way of doing it all. --Alfakim-- talk 15:27, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Hey there,
Do you have a zip file somewhere I can download with all of the current image files? Seems like a bit of a drag to download each of them separately.
Thanks.

your edit to DNA Resequencer
Hi, I just reverted the edit you made to DNA Resequencer. Although your edit agruably upgraded the text, It Deleted 3 refs, detsoyed about 20 cites, and disolved sevral pieces of key info. I like what you added and how yo restructured the intro to the article, however it messed up alot of other things so I reverted. Later I will try to incoperate your changes to the text without damaging the refs. Tobyk777 18:04, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
- S .. took me ages to do all that work. Could you re-revert to the version I did? and then sort out the refs from there? I thought the work i did on that intro was pretty crucial, especially if you're looking for FA. --Alfakim-- talk 23:04, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
- I liked the work you did. Tonight, I have some time. I will try to re incorperate it. Just wait 6 hours from when i'm posting it. I appericiate all the work you did. I will try to make it perfect. Tobyk777 00:45, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

- I just spent more than an hour. The text is perfect, and all the cites are in the right places, however, the refs are really screwed up. Because of it alot of the text is invisible. I know it has something to do with the ref tags but I can't figure out what. Tobyk777 03:26, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Take a look now
I have incorperated my great refs with your text. With the help of Tango and Morph, it looks perfect. Is there anything else that you think could be improved. Tobyk777 23:24, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- The article needs copyediting heavily, it is riddled with spelling and grammatical mistakes :S. Also, your new leadin has introduced elements I tried to remove, such as those going into too much detail or sounding OR, or most importantly being in-universe. I would appreciate it if you could revert as significantly as possible to the version I wrote which removed 99% of what FA guys would object to. for isntance, your descriptions of various events (e.g. anubis and the goauld) in the leadin are far too detailed and in-universe. --Alfakim-- talk 01:26, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- I copied all of your text into the curent version. I just re-reffed it, and re-added info you deleted. I didn't revert because your changes were bad, I reverted because they destroyed the refs and deleted info. The text in your version was the best the text ever was, (except for the info you deleted) If you could copyedit it without destoying refs and deleting info it would be great. Tobyk777 02:53, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- If you take a look here and here the text in the current version is almost identical to your text, I tried to preserve as much as possible. It is reverted to the version you wrote, just better refed. (Also, the show never mentioned anything about an army of hokotaurs so i took that out) Your changes were great, I just reffed them. Tobyk777 02:59, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

I removed some of your info because of reasons like:
- Too much detail for a lead in section
- Sounded in-universe
- Repeated elsewhere in teh article
Remember that a leadin is meant to be a brief summary/introduction to an article that doesn't go into detail, and shouldnt take up more than 1 screen. --Alfakim-- talk 14:18, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Template:Xsgcite/2
This has a {{tfd}} tag on it, and it seems you are the only contributor. However, it isn't listed at TfD. Do you want it deleted, or is the tagging some sort of test? --ais523 11:55, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yeh it needs to be deleted. Not entirely familiar with tfd though, was hoping someone else could do it :S --Alfakim-- talk 12:45, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
Template Table
There is something I want to do, but I can't get an answer about how to do it on Misplaced Pages/MediaWiki sites. I hope you can help: This is best described by example. Consider I have a template named 'house' and it has the fields 'address', 'rooms', 'baths', 'price'. Now, I know how to make that template and use it on each page about a house. But, I want to show the template values of every page in one comparison table, like:
Address | Rooms | Baths | Price |
123 St. | 3 | 1.5 | $150k |
44 Powderhorn Ave. | 2 | 2 | $120k |
1143 S. Windermere | 4 | 2.5 | $200k |
Is that possible? I made an extension that does it, but if you update a template value, you have to open/save the page with the comparison table again to update the values. --Kainaw 17:11, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- There is no way to do this. The best you can get is a list of all the pages which the template is used on, at Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:House.--Alfakim-- talk 00:10, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- OK. I made an extension to do it. Now I can avoid having to update every table of info on my wiki. Just update the template and all the related tables are updated (when the cache clears). --Kainaw 18:41, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- That is a very clever extension. You should develop it and so on - get it added to Misplaced Pages i see it being very very useful. --Alfakim-- talk 18:50, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

stargate timeline
Just wanted to say that I think you (and all supporters) did a great job on the timeline page (which I have only just found today). I have one little hitch though and frankly, I am a little afraid of trying to make a note directly on the page for fear of somehow managing to accidently erase the whole thing, so I will use this (safer) route instead.
You note that Dr Weir and the Atlantis research team are examining the ruins of the Antarctic base in July 2004(Rising and prelude to it). Presumably, this would also be when Maj Sheppard flies Gen O'Neill to the site and their little mishap with the drone. It is clearly daytime during this episode yet it should be completely dark in Antarctica in July and NO ONE flies in Antarctica in the winter (just ask Dr Jerri Neilsen - the doctor who discovered she had cancer while stationed at A-S South Pole Station during the winter of 1999! the med drop they did in July for her was unprecedented at the time).
Frankly, I have also wondered exactly what it is that Maj Sheppard would have been doing in Antarctica for eleven months (short of consuming already very limitted resources) seeing as though a)there are no military bases in Antarctica and b)he would only be useful as a helicopter pilot for 4 or 5 months out of the year?? But, that is neither here nor there.
thanks for your time!!!
- Umm... thanks! Youve pointed out another plothole - dont worry about it. Anyway yes, glad you liked the page. --Alfakim-- talk 20:00, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
