Help with Huggle

check-markThis help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can ask another question on your talk page, contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse.

Hello, I recently download the Huggle anti-vandalism tool. However, I keep getting an error saying that I don't have the 'rollback permissions on this project'. Is this because I am a new user? Thanks. Boomer Vial (talk) 03:25, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi @Boomer Vial:, and welcome to Misplaced Pages! - Since Huggle is a very advanced tool (with the ability to cause serious destruction if used improperly) you need to have the rollback permission on the English Misplaced Pages to use it. This permission is granted to users who have shown they are competent in Misplaced Pages policies and know how to fight vandalism! You can request rollback permission here, but you would not be accepted at this time. In the mean time, you can consider using your fist to revert any vandalism you see! Let me know if you have any questions! --allthefoxes 03:36, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
Hey @Allthefoxes:, just one other question. Is there any anti-vandalism tools that I can use as a new user, or are they all too advanced? If so, that is fine, I will rely on doing it myself for the time being. Cheers. Boomer Vial (talk) 03:40, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
WP:TWINKLE is a tool you could use right now! :) However, just remember all changes you make, even with a tool, are your responsibility. Be careful, and I highly suggest you read up on Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. --allthefoxes 03:42, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
Ok, thank you for the response @Allthefoxes:. Cheers. :) Boomer Vial (talk) 03:44, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

Warnings

If you revert someones edit, it is a good idea to give them a warning, if they are a new user! Read about this here --allthefoxes 03:45, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

Ok, thanks. :) Boomer Vial (talk) 03:46, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

Reliable sources

Hi, may I suggest that you look at information contained in ref tags. Often these allow you to find the reliable sources for the reliably sourced information added to an article. Have a nice day. 122.56.200.79 (talk) 05:11, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

Autoconfirmed

check-markThis help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can ask another question on your talk page, contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse.

Hello, I was wondering how a user becomes a 'autoconfirmed' or 'confirmed' user. Thanks. Boomer Vial (talk) 05:28, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

Autoconfirmed happens after a user has 10 contributions within 4 days. SwisterTwister talk 05:33, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
Ok, thank you SwisterTwister. Cheers. :) Boomer Vial (talk) 05:36, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
Certainly, if you want to familiarize yourself with how Misplaced Pages works, see WP:Welcome and WP:New contributors' help page. Also, you may ask me any questions at my talk page as well. Cheers, SwisterTwister talk 05:38, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
Hey, SwisterTwisted, how do I check if my account has been made confirmed? I still cannot see the Twinkle tool under my preferences. Cheers. Boomer Vial (talk) 06:06, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
It may not have gone through yet (see WP:AUTOCONFIRM). You may also ask for it to be enacted instantly at Misplaced Pages:Requests for permissions/Confirmed. Cheers, SwisterTwister talk 06:10, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

@SwisterTwister: just FYI, confirming a user early is almost never done except in cases of legitimate alternate accounts. The reason is that the bar for autoconfirmation is deliberately quite low. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:32, 4 January 2016 (UTC)

Why have the edits been removed? Or rather called "vandalism". I've put in the right references and citations to the change. 106.51.233.181 (talk) 06:37, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

Information icon Hello and welcome to Misplaced Pages. When you add content to talk pages and Misplaced Pages pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Antivandalism

Hello Boomer Vial, I noticed you are also busy with antivandalism, did you use Twinkle already? There is a script (I use it myself with TW) that lets you put the user warning on a vandals Usertalkpage with one click (you'll still need to copy/paste the vandalised Article's title, though), if you are not already using it I can look the page up for you. Because there are too many people having fun at vandalising :-) Poepkop (talk) 17:51, 6 January 2016 (UTC).

Hey, User:Poepkop! Yeah, I'm aware of Twinkle, and I was actually waiting to be auto confirmed so I can use it. Thank you though! Cheers! Boomer Vial (talk) 18:12, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

Boomer Vial, when you are reverting an edit for vandalism, please do provide a reason. 106.51.234.78 (talk) 06:12, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

Sammy Figueroa

He himself thinks that is too much. So I delete it. And also I added a complete section about of his biography.

reference = https://en.wikipedia.org/Anushasana_Parva

this page above is being repeatedly deleted for unknown reasons.

The page is a summary of the anusasana parva. A summary of the book is not vandalism. All the pages and paragraphs have references cited to them. the references are from sacred-texts.com in that website the anusasana parva translation is available. why are these paragraphs being repeatedly deleted. Cluebot only objected to certain phrases which were modified the reply to cluebot has been accepted. the edit is only to say that adding paragraphs with references is not vandalism.

if there is any specific para to which there is an objection, please name it.

thanks

Note

Hi Boomer, re this edit, please be aware that a user is allowed to remove almost any kind of warning from their own user talk page: see wp:OWNTALK. There is no need to restore the old warnings. Cheers - DVdm (talk) 19:12, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

Oh, ok. I reverted them partly because of that, and partly because they were (more than likely) bad-edit edits. Thanks for giving me the heads up, though User:DVdm. Cheers. Boomer Vial (talk) 19:15, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

An IP which had been vandalizing (business manager claimed it was a public wifi network after I placed a shared IP notice) gave me a barnstar with your signature on it. Was that intentional? BoxOfChickens (talk · contribs · CSD/ProD log) 18:43, 11 January 2016 (UTC)

kaby lake detail

long story short, the reason I removed some some content was because there is no source support that specification, nor cache or clock speed is proven to be true. however some AMD fanboy from Malaysia tried to be vandalism by editing the article with false information. Tim Zukas

Re your warning to Tim Zukas, be aware that this user just recently came off a SIX MONTH suspension for disruptive editing for making similar mass deletions, and also doing so either without or with misleading edit summaries. He also does this via thousands of logged out edits from dozens of anonymous IPs as well. It looks as if he is at it again and he needs close watching. Centpacrr (talk) 12:26, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

@Centpacrr: Agreed, I left him a final vandalism warning, and he will be reported if continues to change or remove information without an explanation. Thanks. Boomer Vial 18:05, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
Based on my and a raft of other editors' experience with him over several years this won't take long. Mr. Zukas does not change his stripes. See HERE. Centpacrr (talk) 21:12, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

aesthetization of violence

The edit I made was to move a paragraph that was in the wrong place. The movie man of fire was mentioned, then the next paragraph goes back to what the previous paragraph was saying about Morales' review of Kill Bill. 67.222.224.69 (talk) 21:44, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

rollback

Hi Boomer Vial. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Misplaced Pages:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Katie 23:20, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

@KrakatoaKatie: Thank you, and I will definitely keep those points in mind. Cheers! Boomer Vial 00:33, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

Your message regarding my edits in 1968 World Series.

In response to your first message, it was not allowing me to respond to your first message. I kept trying to "enter" text into the box, but was not allowing me.

Much of the edit/deletion revolved around information that was found in other entries or extraneous or repeat information that made the entry about the 1968 World Series difficult to read. For example, one of the toughest plays for an outfielder is a ball hit directly at them. Curt Flood's initial reaction was a typical one step in before going back on the rocket hit by Northrup. The writer spent undo time and references saying the same thing: he misplayed the ball. We got it the first time that the writer thinks Flood blew the series on that ball. Making four references was overkill.

The other edits involved the summary of the previous (1967) season for both teams, while there was an entry touching on the same subject. Very long, unnecessary copy that can already be found in other Wiki entries. The entry that was edited specifically dealt with the 1968 World Series. That's it. These entries are supposed to be quick and easy reads for a reader. Good detail is not discouraged, however, there has to be a happy median between a one-line summaries and what is written in this summary with overkill information that slows the read down. The "prelude" also details individual game substance, but yet goes into a repeat information in individual game (Game 1, Game 2, Game 3, etc.) details. One entry, for example, spent an entire four line graph detailing innings where the "slow" Tigers got runners on base but didn't score.

As a one-time professional copy editor, I took sports copy and made it more readable for multiple newspapers: Spartanburg (SC) Herald-Journal, the Marion (IN) Chronicle-Tribune, the Williamsport (PA) Gazette, the now defunct Cincinnati Post and the Cincinnati Enquirer. Not trying to harm the Wiki entries but make them more readable.

Conchobar Lads Tomlinson

Thanks for the ping on this. I thought I should tell you that I should get no credit for moving along the deletion of this article. Since the talk page is deleted with the article, there is no way to show the previous sequence of edits. It seems Materialscientist deleted it just after I read your message and during the short time I was considering it. I had actually looked back to see the time stamp and the article was gone. Donner60 (talk) 08:00, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

Your welcome. I know, I was hoping to have you ping a few admins for me so it could be dealt with. Materialscientist ended up deleting the page right after. Just a case of good timing, haha. :) Cheers! Boomer Vial 00:37, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

Why you reverted my edition in Indigenous rights?

Why you reverted my edition in Indigenous rights? But in the 1950s the indigenous of New World countries wasn't made protest movement for indigenous rights, they accept the "acculturation" and the "colonial mentality", they accept as people . Before 1960s cultural changes, the Western world was in the conservative culture and wasn't rooted and steeped in Marxist cultural and Radical environment ideologies countercultures. - 201.81.64.163 (talk) 06:46, 28 January 2016 (UTC).

@201.81.64.163: I reverted your edits, because accidentally erased 3,000 bytes of data from the page when you added your contribution. You can re-add it if you like, just please be careful about erasing large portions of texts. It's more likely to catch the eye of vandalism-fighters, such as myself. Thanks. Boomer Vial 06:50, 28 January 2016 (UTC)

Pings

I happened to notice this edit. Note that the valid ping and your signature have to be added in the same edit, or no notification occurs. The thing to do in that situation is to add a new comment with the ping, being careful to remember to sign it. Also, {{ping}} is a template, so it has to be enclosed in double-braces, not double-square-brackets. You have created a piped wikilink to the dab page, Ping. ―Mandruss  10:06, 28 January 2016 (UTC)

@Mandruss: Oh, oops. Sorry about that. I guess I wasn't holding my shift button all the way down. I went back and changed it to brackets. Thanks a lot for letting me know. :) Boomer Vial 10:08, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
See the first thing I said above. You stil have not added a valid ping and your signature in the same edit. You added your signature in your opening post, all the rest was simply replacing what was already there. That's why I said the thing to do in that siutation is to add a new comment. Oh, and the user link generates the same notification as ping, so he had already got the notification with your opening post. Maybe why that's why your AIV report got such quick attention by that same admin? ―Mandruss  10:15, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I'm not following you. Do you mean the ping, and my signature in the same edit? Boomer Vial 21:42, 28 January 2016 (UTC)

A typical scenario:

  • You create a new comment containing an intended ping and your signature. But you botch the coding of the ping, for example as {{ping|username]]. Since a valid ping and your signature were not added in the same edit, no notification is sent.
  • You notice your mistake and you edit your comment to fix the ping. But this edit does not add your signature, it has already been added above, so no notification is sent.

Another typical scenario:

  • You create a new comment containing a good ping, but you forget to sign it. Since a valid ping and your signature were not added in the same edit, no notification is sent.
  • You notice your mistake and you edit your comment to sign it. But this edit does not add the ping, it has already been added above, so no notification is sent.

After noticing either initial mistake, there are two possible ways to correct it:

  • Self-revert. View the diff and copy your comment text. Create a new comment, pasting in the text and then correcting your mistake. -or-
  • Add a new comment below the existing one, including a valid ping, your signature, and the statement that you are retrying a botched ping.

Finally, keep in mind that a link to the user page also generates a notification. The only difference is in the appearance on the page; ping produces a @ character, user link creates the prefix "User:". In some contexts a link makes more sense or "works better", in others a ping does, but it doesn't really matter as long as the notification gets sent. Also keep in mind that there are multiple templates that generate notifications, and various aliases (redirects) for each template, and different editors prefer different templates and aliases. This is in keeping with the Misplaced Pages tradition of making things as complicated as possible. ―Mandruss  01:01, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

What's really odd is when I view the page, my post and the ping to Materialscientist are unmalformed (meaning, when I look at it, Materialscientist has a @ before his name). Well, I understand what you were trying to say now. I need to either strikeout the post in question, and re-post it, or copy/paste it. Thanks for the clarification. Boomer Vial 06:18, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

Help with User:Symplectic Map/AutoSpell

Hi there. I was just wondering how I access my monobook.js? I'm trying to add this spell checker to my tools, and I have no idea how to do the first step. Boomer Vial 07:48, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

These are just files that can be edited like any other. First, check in "Preferences" which "skin" you are using. The default nowadays is Vector, in which case you would need to create User:Boomer Vial/vector.js and add to it the line described in User:Symplectic Map/AutoSpell. If something goes wrong and you want to delete the file, you can put {{db-u1}} at the top. The U1 template does not display in the usual way, but it does put the file in the speedy-deletion queue.
