There are currently eight regional municipalities in Ontario (regional seats in brackets):
- Durham Regional Municipality (Whitby)
- Halton Regional Municipality, Ontario (Milton)
- Muskoka District Municipality* (Bracebridge)
- Niagara Regional Municipality (Thorold)
- Oxford County* (Woodstock)
- Peel Regional Municipality (Brampton)
- Waterloo Regional Municipality (Kitchener)
- York Regional Municipality (Newmarket)
- Although Oxford County and the District Municipality of Muskoka are not titled as such, they are both legally considered Regional Municipalities under Part 1, Section 1 of the Ontario Municipal Act, 2001.
