Luisão, real name Anderson Luis da Silva , (born February 13, 1981 in Amparo, Brazil) is a football (soccer). He plays central defender for SL Benfica and the Brazilian national team.

SL Benfica

Luisão's arrival to Benfica was not easy: he faced a tough period of adaptation to the European football, during which he performed somewhat below his capabilities and even considered traveling back to his home country. However, Luisão has established himself as one of Benfica's top players and is constantly targeted by other European giants. At the end of the 2004/2005, Luisão scored a decisive goal against rivals Sporting which would give Benfica its first league title in 11 years.

National team

He has 19 caps with the Brazilian national team, the first one in July, 2001. He has scored one goal, in the Copa America final in 2004. He has recently been called up by manager Carlos Alberto Parreira to join Brazil for the World Cup 2006. However, he didn't have the chance to play. After the demise of Parreira, who was replaced by Dunga, Luisão was one of the nine players called up to the World Cup 2006 to be called up for the team's first match after the tournament.
