The word "chili", when used alone, can refer to:

  • the common name for a popular Southwestern dish (e.g. - "chili is the official state dish of Texas"), see chili con carne
  • a spice mix containing cumin, dried ground peppers and other spices, traditionally used to flavor this dish, or to impart it's unique flavor to other Southwestern cusine, see chili powder
  • an alternate spelling for the chile pepper, the fruit and plant of any one of several species of the genus Capsicum, see chile pepper
