Cheers for putting me in. I'm sort of against categories and userboxes on user pages, but this could be handy for finding others who moght be able to help on my obscure subjects. --Bedders 06:44, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Yes, this is exactly what I thought. E Asterion 07:12, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Boiled patatas bravas

I have changed back your correction. Go to c/Navas in Granada and there is a bar that sells patatas bravas with boiled potatoes. I think I had it served similarly in Madrid once. Like I said, it is rare. But it does happen. ] 22:34, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

They are not just boiled. Once boiled and drained, they are fried. Basically, the result is that these are crispy in the outside and tender in the inside. Feel free to enhance the Tapas article if you can.

Saludos, E Asterion 22:04, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

My suggestions for Photographs in Lincolnshire

<flattery>Since you are such a prolific photographer and so many of the Lincolnshire articles I've worked on have been improved by your work</flattery>, I thought I list a few articles that could do with photos.

This has turned into a list of articles I need to work on :) --Bedders 10:42, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

He he. Thanks very much for your kind words. You really managed to put a smile on my face :) I will definitely try to get them done (eventually!). I can't believe there's no image for the Belmont Transmitter. I have some pictures for the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby and the Appleby-Frodingham Railway but need to remember what did I do with the prints... I'll get back to you later on. Cheers, E Asterion 00:10, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Osama

Yeah, he just appears to be joking around. :P What do you think of it? —Khoikhoi 19:26, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

User:Ferick

I cannot see that the RFC makes much difference, the block is only for 24 hours so he won't miss everything. Also RFC is about comments, about seeing how others perceive actions and what they belive is positive and negative, it isn't really a defend yourself on every negative comment thing, it is an appreciate other people point of view and modify your behaviour as necessary. --pgk 09:36, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Trolling on Kosovo

It seems we have two trolls; I've identified one of them conclusively as User:Tonycdp. See User talk:ChrisO/Tonycdp. SlimVirgin has quite rightly told him to stop playing silly games... -- ChrisO 22:57, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

So called "independence" war

No, that was not independence war. The war was between HDZ-led government of Croatia and ethnic Serb citizens of Croatia. The independence of Croatia was not disputed in that war, but only Croatian control over territory of Krajina. How can somebody to fight for independence if nobody dispute that independence to him? PANONIAN (talk) 21:01, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

And yes, I am well, thank you for asking. :) PANONIAN (talk) 21:02, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
And one more thing: the poll was about what name should be used for the article about war, not what name should be used in other articles, thus I am not violating the poll results. :) PANONIAN (talk) 21:05, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
Well, I was in fact provoked to do this by recent edits of User:Kubura and User:Afrika paprika, so I decided to clean entire POV that they trying to impose here. There is nothing wrong to have NPOV name for the article that will be acceptable for all. I do not see why somebody would object to title "war in Croatia", which is correct and NPOV and do not imply the (disputed) character of this war. PANONIAN (talk) 21:35, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
And the first thing that I done was to start discussion on the "Talk:Croatian War of Independence" page, but nobody answered. :) PANONIAN (talk) 21:36, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, but I've been away from former Yugoslavia articles for a while. I was unaware of this. I simply noticed as I had this article on my watchlist as I wrote the original stub. I just realised you have brought the POV title issue up in the talk page. I think this makes sense. Thanks, E Asterion 21:42, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Ip

Hi Asterion, this ip address have offended me in my talkpage twice during to days. It is about time to block this vandal. He tries to destroy wikipedia. Please do something.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Noah30 (talkcontribs)

I will report it at the incidents noticeboard if he continues. I have already warned him on his/her talk page. Regards, E Asterion 21:31, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

About 10 minutes after that you removed his vandalism from my talkpage he did it again. What about the 3RR, he has edited the Kosovo article 4 within 24 hours:

  • 1: 13:21, 10 August
  • 2: 13:20, 10 August
  • 3: 13:15, 10 August
  • 4: 20:08, 9 August

best regards --Noah30 21:37, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Sorry Noah30, actually I am not an admin, so I have no real power to block him. The best thing I can do is to list this at the 3RR and/or email William Connelly (who already blocked the IP once before). E Asterion 21:42, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Lincolnshire villages

Many thanks for the editions to my stubs. I spent half my life in Waddingham (now living in Bracknell, but I have no photos at all. Slowly trying to fill in all the red links, but it will take time.Dsergeant 08:52, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

POV Edits

No, I warned the anon because of POV edits on China-related articles - see , , and . However, this appears to be the same disruptive anon as:

I recall them edit warring a few months back on Scottish people and other ethnic group articles. It appears they haven't changed a great deal... :p —Khoikhoi 21:02, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

I think my JAJAH firefox plugin somehow removes the IP numbers off my edits...

It managed to strip off the IPs of some other comments on my page... William M. Connolley 07:38, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Same problem with my own talk page. I lost a good deal of IP numbers too. I just got rid of the plugin. Thanks, E Asterion 19:46, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Misplaced Pages, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Misplaced Pages:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
The last AC meeting (full log)
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Misplaced Pages:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Misplaced Pages talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Misplaced Pages:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Mysterious van

Hi! Thanks for the good news... I am currently up to my ears in Simca Vedette, trying to transfer all the precious knowledge Hektor supplied from the talk page to the article and from English to French, using my poor English and rudimentary French knowledge, not to mention vahue orientation in automotive technology, especially English and French terms :D I've been doing that for over an hour now and still am only halfway there....

Anyway, the search for the mysterious van was quite short, as I began with the, as it was revealed, right assumption that it is a TAUNUS Transit (probably a reference to the popular Ford Taunus made by Ford in Cologne). I am not going to be a smartass and boast about the knowledge I have just acquired from a website, but you just have to take a look at the German Ford Transit article to find out that the history of that nameplate started one generation earlier than the English (and apparently UK-oriented) article would lead us to believe. Apparently the British equivalent would be the forward-control Ford Thames 400E, but it isn't covered by the English WP either. So, if you'd have some spare time (I can help with my rudimentary German after I am finished with the Vedette, provided I will survive). Regards, Bravada, talk - 23:47, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Looks like a normal Fiat Dino Coupé to me. Check this page - the photo is almost identical (perhaps even the same car). The Coupé was built by Bertone, this is why it might not bear an obvious Fiat badge. If that's what you ask about. Have a good night, Bravada, talk - 02:02, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

User:Bokpasa

Hi Asterion. Can you have a look at this user contributions to all articles about the history of Morocco? He's been trying to push his POV stance arguing with no source or reference at all that Morocco has only become Morocco (a country) in 1667. I've been dealing w/ that since a long time now and i've been described as a racist and Hitler today. All that was mixed with some nonsense. I know he's into more POV in the Spanish version of wikipedia but this guy is disturbing these articles here and i'm feeling so tired of this. -- Szvest 16:59, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks Asterion. Much appreciated. -- Szvest 10:57, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

DYK

Updated DYK query On 18 August, 2006, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Glanford Power Station, which you created. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Moving Spanish Foreign Legion

You forgot to complete the procedure, by creating a comment space in Talk:Spanish Foreign Legion. --Kwame Nkrumah 16:55, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

The rationale had already been added to the move request page. Please note that the article was moved to the wrong title back in July without any discussion whatsoever (the person who did this seems to have copied and pasted the text to bypass proper procedure). Regards, E Asterion 22:53, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

Yes

Yes, of course. The Constitutional Frame of Kosovo can be found at www.assembly-kosova.org and it tells that Albanian and Serbian are co-offical at the highest level. English is also offical in a way as it prevails in case of conflicts between Albanian and Serbian (the English copy of the Cons. Frame prevails). In the meantime other languages like Turkish, Bosnian or what ever it could be are official only at local level (Regulation on the Usage of Official Languages, not published on the website yet).

So please put English, Albanian and Serbian as the only official language at Kosovo infobox.--Pjetër Bogdani III 02:45, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Gracias

Saludos, E Asterion 00:06, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Barreiros

Hi Asterion! As you might have noticed, I have inexcusably abandoned the poor Polski Fiat 125p and got sucked in into the world of Chrysler Europe (which I had little idea existed just two months ago). I am currently contemplating coming back to the interesting and utterly forgotten Chrysler 180 (or whatever you wish to call it, it had more names than some members of the Royal Family). Inseparably connected with it is the history of the Spanish automaker Barreiros (no wikilink here, as it would lead to the article on the community, even though the Espagnol interwiki link would lead to the automaker!), which became part of Chrysler Europe too and is even less known to humanity at large.

I guess because of its domestic-only focus, there is little info on Barreiros itself and the models produced there available for non-Spanish speakers. I have found two sites - one for the 180 itself, http://www.chrysler-180.es.vg/ and one for another interesting, Spain-only model, the majestic Dodge 3700 (Dart in disguise, but with a really nice wheel pattern) http://www.comunidadodge.es.vg/ (though I believe some better ones can be found). I was wondering whether you would be interested in helping share the history of Barreiros and the oddball Chryslers with the English-speaking Misplaced Pages community after you come back from the Wikibreak. Cheers! Bravada, talk - 21:23, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I remember to have played with a Dodge Barreiros toy car when I was little. I'm in Spain till next Monday. Funnily enough, I thought about the Barreiros a while back. I will take care of this once I get back home. Cheers, E Asterion 00:08, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Have a great time, and look out for Simcas, Dodges and Chryslers when carrying a camera :D God, do I envy you. The toy car I remember the most from my childhood was the blue Skoda Estelle :D :D :D It even had a mock-up of the engine in the rear! I actually wonder whether it would be somewhere around the home now... Bravada, talk - 00:27, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Damn EU-financed Plan Prever killed off so many classic cars that makes me go mental (basically, the government would contribute up to 1500 euros towards a new car as long as you scrap one older than 8 years). I saw a SEAT 124 this morning and could not help but smiling like a child. I will keep an eye open for Simcas and Chryslers/Talbots. Dodges are a no-go for sure :( E Asterion 00:57, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
I guessed so :( Though there seem to be enthusiast clubs that keep survivors going for sure - I guess we would have to mail them for some good photos (where "we" stands for "the one of us who speaks Spanish :p). Anyway, enjoy your holiday at home and we'll come back to that whenever you'll have time :D Bravada, talk - 01:03, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Admin coaching

As it's been a while since you signed up for admin coaching, I am just checking that you still wish to receive it. If so just add you name to the "Unassigned" section of the coaching box, and you'll be assigned a couple of coaches as soon as they become available. Let me know (on my talk page) if you have any questions. Cheers, Petros471 10:36, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

As there area couple of free coaches I've assigned you Prodego and Mysekurity as your coaches for when you get back. Exactly what form the admin coaching takes is up to you and the coaches to decide, but a general piece of advice I give is to set up a user subpage (for example User:Asterion/Admin coaching) to keep coaching discussion together. That prevents things getting split up over three talk pages, which can get confusing! Let me know (on my talk page) if you have any questions. Cheers, Petros471 17:35, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Hello Asterion, as you know from above I will be one of your coaches. I just wanted to drop by and warn you my ability to edit for the next few weeks will be unpredictable, so I can't be sure how active I will be. However I will do my best to be there, Prodego 17:55, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Hey Asterion, I am your co-coach (the other being the very friendly Prodego, above, as you can probably tell), and am very happy to meet you. Unfortunately, I my editing will also be quite spotty in the coming weeks (from now until about Thanksgiving). I appologize if this is of any inconvenience to you, and will try my damndest to stay up to date on all things Misplaced Pages (an e-mail will always get to me, however). Keep it amazing, and let me know if you have any questions, Mysekurity 02:20, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Sevilla, la grande

¡Hola, Asterion! Bien, bien...

We appear to have been editing the Casa de la Contratacion pages at the same time.

My understanding is that the Casa was not a building, but was a committee which met predominantly in the Alcazares. I believe that the building which you have labelled as "Casa de la Contratacion" (now the Archive of the Indies) was originally built as a covered market and had no initial connection with La Casa?

cf. http://www.turismo.sevilla.org/paginas_en/patrimoniomonumentalficha.asp?idpatrimonio=99

Best Wishes User:littlerussell

To be honest, I'm not very familiar with the history of La Casa (too bad as I was born in Seville) but a friend of a friend works at the Archive of the Indies as a researcher. I think you could be right and that the Archive is merely the place where the old papers from the Casa are being kept (So maybe the picture should say Archive of the Indies building, where the Casa de Contratacion historic papers are kept). I know for a fact that the Casa was moved to Cadiz at some stage because the Guadalquivir became almost unnavigable. E Asterion 22:21, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

My theory about Gibraltarian

I think he probably has too much time on his hands - I wouldn't be surprised if he continues to do this 5 years from now. I also believe he is suffering from m:MPOV and that he lacks adequate understanding of WP:V (he claims that his editions represent "the truth") and WP:AGF (he tends to get into flame wars with pretty much everyone who tries to interact with him - not just Ecemaml). Scobell302 18:29, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

PS - I also think his behavior is pretty similar to that of Jon-Erik Beckjord.

Piccies

Hi! Well, perhaps it could be better, but it's most important that you had a great time (I hope!) Don't worry about the Horizon - I don't know whether you have noticed, but we had got a permission from Mr. Stedehouder of the Dutch Garage de'l Est to use all of the car pics from his site, which includes this huge archive. You can find a rather good pic of the Horizon there, and a host of other vehicles (no Spanish cars, though :( ).

As concerns the Ronda, I am afraid most of the sources are probably in Spanish too :( - but I will see about that when I am done with the Fiat 130. Somebody "expanded" it with lotsa POV and I now want to clean it up (I had it on my "due" list anyway) so that I could nominate it for DYK :D But first I have to convince the darn Wayback Machine to work again...

What kind of work do you have that you can do photoediting stuff while "on duty"? ;) When you're finished with the Seville photos, you might consider helping me upload all the goodies from the garage de'l Est to the Commons and insert them to their respective articles :D I also have to figure out where to get a nice Fiat 130 photo from... I have also dumped a lot of stuff to the Chrysler 180 article, but I guess I turned it into a pile of rubbish... Bravada, talk - 21:26, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Me abusing my awesome power

I've been keeping an eye on it, actually (and am currently trying to decide whether it's worth responding to), but thanks for the heads-up! --InShaneee 22:42, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Yeah...I tend to find out about this type of thing far too late for my taste. Again, thank you. --InShaneee 22:46, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

History of Gibraltar

¿Alguna idea? Muchas gracias y un saludo --Ecemaml 12:36, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

He localizado la edición.

Thanks for the warm and encouraging welcome

Wanted to let you know that anyway, so have ventured to ask these questions of you here, as I think invited to do in your welcome.

Question #1: I am using images obtained from http://www.demis.nl/wms/mapclip.htm, but cannot seem to "tag" Template:PD-Demis (i.e., Template:PD-Demis): I just get a message that the template doesn't exist yet on a page designed to create it. I've copied over the text on the PD-Demis template to my image description, but I of course would like to do it properly and find out what I'm doing wrong.

Question #2: I've made some minor changes (to the 'original' on my computer) to an image after uploading it, and wanted to replace the 'old' image previously uploaded to the Misplaced Pages site to this new version, but am just told that the image already exists, and to give the image I'm trying to upload a different name. I've read some perhaps old information that I'd be given the option to replace the current image of the same name, or give new a name, but that no longer seems to be the case. If so, what would be the current procedure to change an uploaded image?

Thanks for any help with the above. Jauntymcd 17:57, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Guadalajara(s)

Esas decisiones de "primary use", "clearly what most ppl will most probably be looking for", etc. irremediablemente reflejan algún punto de vista; aquí, un PdV que favorece lo angloamericano y lo europeo.

Arbitration request on Kosovo

Dear Editor, since you have been involved in editing the Kosovo article in the last months, and that article has been the subject of long ongoing edit wars, your name is listed in the Request for Arbitration on this matter. You can make a statement here: Misplaced Pages:Requests_for_arbitration#Kosovo. Due to the large number of editors involved, however, I would to ask you to keep your statement concise and to the point. If you feel you have not been substantially involved in the disputes surrounding the Kosovo article, please do not remove your name from the Arbitration request, but rather make a short statement there explaining why you feel you have not been involved enough to be part it. To understand my reasons for requesting Arbitration, please read my statement on the Requests for Arbitration page. Best regards, Cpt. Morgan (Reinoutr) 10:10, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your comment, Asterion. Although I missed your 'official' anouncement to stop editing Kosovo, I figured that much since you were no longer active there. There is no need for everyone to make a statement at the AfD in this case, but I appreciate your explanation on my talk page. I got involved in the Kosovo article with the naive idea that I could mediate a solution, which obviously has proven impossible so far. If this AfD is rejected, I also will leave the article because it simply takes up so much time to keep repeating the same arguments over and over again and it all feels so useless, since no progress is made at all. If the ArbCom agrees and imposes some sort of restrictions on the article and possibly editors, I am willing to give it try to keep working on the article. But this really might be the last thing I am doing on that article. The Kosovo article is clearly one of the few examples where having a wiki as an encyclopedia leads to more trouble than to improvements. Thanks again for all the efforts you made, happy editing! --Cpt. Morgan (Reinoutr) 20:08, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi there,
I have already said to you before that the best you can do is to change your password and also remember to log off if you use a shared computer (eg. internet cafe, university, etc). I am not an admin so there is nothing else I can do from my position. Speak to User:Dijxtra if you need to. Regards, E Asterion 21:50, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Your comments on Reinoutr's page

I thought your comments on Reinoutr's page were very informative - they're also very relevant to the arbitration proceedings. Could you possibly add them to the arbitration page? -- ChrisO 20:21, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
