db-repost

With ref to the Ava Lowery AFD, is there a way for non-admins to see the content of a deleted article? It would be useful but rather defeats deletion, so I'd assumed it doesn't exist. I had to compare current content to the website the original was a copyvio of and take a best guess that it was straight repost. Yomangani 23:52, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

The Korker- Yeah, it's me!

Thanks muchly- sorry I got a bit tetchy, but I was very annoyed, and needed some one to blame.

Since you still can edit, I probably have blocked your dynamic IP as anon (non-logged-in) only, so it shouldn't affect you. -- King of 02:30, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Sock of indefblocked user

Sorry for not replying on AIV, I didn't even notice. It's been dealt with now, but he was a sock of User:Videogamer!. -- Steel 19:35, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism Page

I just wanted to say that's friggin' hilarious!
I can't say that I've ever seen one of those on Misplaced Pages before.
Very creative.

Ruthfulbarbarity 19:53, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Oh, I'm not the first one. There are several users with a vandalism page, like User:FireFox, etc. -- King of 19:55, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Parkinson's Disease

Your pardon, but why did you lift protection? The great likelihood is a resumption of vandalism and edit wars, especially given that the range block on the troll in question was lifted. Are you aware of our ongoing problem? --Dan 20:44, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

It's now semi. -- King of 19:50, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

unprotecting article about me

Just 3 weeks ago, the banned user was editing this article with ominous statements about my potential death, and about my family. I hardly think that it has "been long enough" to unprotect the article.--Jimbo Wales 22:30, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

I've re-semi-protected the article. -- King of 19:50, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Unprotect Paul of Tarsus

Hi

Can you please unprotect Paulof Tarsus. The editing is going on pretty well, vandalism is not occuring, we are reaching consensus on the talk page, and the protected version has some major inaccuracies. Please take these things into consideration. thx JPotter 03:19, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

OK. -- King of 19:36, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

You have autoblocked my user name or IP address from editing. You have apparently done this because my IP address has been recently used by "Whore™".

Thx re. Jolly Roger Restaurant

Thank you. The result "(Closing debate; result was delete)" is a small relief. I was unable to elicit any further response at all from the two remaining voters for "delete", after three cordial requests over the past five days, so your judgemnt was further appreciated. Possible to protect usertalk?

I'm rctxtreme, and you have seen my page, but now it is loading up with garbage. Can it be possible to protect it or take action against these people? also check cenandor's user talk thx rctxtreme 21:05, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

I've semi-protected it. However, if activity seems to die down, then it will be unprotected, because talk pages should be open to discussion. -- King of 22:07, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
Actually, it seems like it isn't... rctxtreme (i am not logged in!!!)

Catfish (saltwater)

I assure you the saltwater catfish is very real. It has needle sharp poisonous barbs on its fins, and is extremely common along waters of the Gulf Coast. Just because you disliked the wording of my original article does not discount the significance. Add to ir or alter the content rather than deleting it. Here a few references. Sysrpl 03:20, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

  • 1: The saltwater catfish (Arius felis) deserve horrid reputation -- Hardhead not only unappetizing but also dangerous; Old salts agree the sea catfish is at the bottom of the pecking order. This disdain carries even to scientific circles.
  • 2: Wiki commons on the saltwater catfish
  • 3: SEA CATFISH, Arius felis is a sleek saltwater catfish that cleans up the bottom. Adult males carry and hatch the eggs in their mouths. Size 10-30 cm.
  • 4: From Florida Sportsman magazine Florida state fishing records: Catfish, Hardhead, Arius felis, 3 lbs. 5 oz., Sebastian, 4-18-93, Amanda A. Steed
  • 5: From the Texas state wildlife page: Hardheads are notorious bait theives and since that occur in great numbers, it is often diffficult to catch other species-- particularly near well fished piers or bridges.
Unfortunately, the problem is that even if it's real, the article contains many attacks and strong political statements, violating WP:NPOV. If you would like to constructively add to Misplaced Pages, you could add information at Catfish, remembering to cite references. -- King of 23:32, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Misplaced Pages, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Misplaced Pages:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
The last AC meeting (full log)
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Misplaced Pages:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Misplaced Pages talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Misplaced Pages:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

4m33 block

I have noticed that you have blocked him for "perhaps being a vandal". May I ask you what has caused you to think that? The name 4m33 doesn't appear to be similar to one of the vandals-accounts we've dealt with in the past.—♦♦ SʘʘTHING 06:02, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

I will unblock the account, named for a pretty famous John Cage reference, so not gibberish. Kusma (討論) 11:45, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Please check your email

Block of Killertom (talk · contribs · count)

Killertom (talk · contribs · count) has requested to be unblocked. The request seems pretty genuine, but I wanted to check with you to see why you blocked him before I gave a response; was it regarding any particular vandal, or because of the username? Even if it was regarding a vandal, and providing he's not, I'm still considering suggesting that he changes usernames, since it does imply some violence. -- Natalya 22:49, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Violence was what I was thinking of too. I replied to his email with the following:

I'm a little uneasy about the word "Killer" in your username. Please see our username policy; that word "may give the impression that you intend to cause trouble" (as quoted from that page). Please choose another one, and you'll be fine.

King of 22:52, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Great, thanks for following that up. -- Natalya 00:47, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Firebrand books speedy deletion - why?

Hi, why did you delete Firebrand books? They're a real publisher, and publish many books that are referred to elsewhere on wikipedia. It may have been a stub article, but I think it was a useful article to have. It wasn't self-promotion -- i have no relationship with them -- so I can't think what criteria for speedy deletion it meets.

There are lots of other articles on small presses and publishers!

Could we discuss this? I'd like to see it reinstated.

ZviGilbert 14:34, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm afraid the article gives too little context on the subject. Please see WP:CSD#A1 for more information. You may re-create the article if you give more content and context. -- King of 07:28, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
I wish I understood better what 'context' you mean. An important publisher in the lesbian and feminist community, whose books have won awards, is not enough 'context'? Should I list out some of the books that have won awards (and have articles on them or their authors elsewhere on Misplaced Pages)? 69.156.29.66 13:14, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Gino Mazzei

I feel that Gino Mazzei is notable, because his salon has won Canadian salon of the year, and he has won several individual awards, in Canada and the United States.

http://www.babak.ca/backstage/contessa.html (scroll down and you'll find that Capucci salon and Spa was nominated for "Best Salon Team")

http://www.babak.ca/backstage/naha.html (scroll down to find that a stylist at Capucci was nominated for best "Avant Garde stylist" at the NORTH AMERICAN HAIRDRESSING AWARDS)

http://www.capucci.com/achiev/achiev-1.html (This shows the many achievements of the salon. Gino Mazzei is the founder and owner of the salon, and he has won hairstylist of the year award)

These sources clearly show that Gino has achieved a lot. In my opinion, he is a notable person born in the Piedmont region.

Thank You — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tml 11 (talkcontribs) 03:39, August 20, 2006 (UTC)

If he is really that notable, then please create a better version with more content and context, asserting the notability of the subject at User:Tml 11/Gino Mazzei. If I approve of it, I'll move it to Gino Mazzei in the main namespace. -- King of 07:28, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

Axe Murder Boys/Boyz

Hi! I noticed you deleted Axe Murder Boys as a nn band. The article noted their national tour with one of the Insane Clown Posse folks, and shouldn't have been speedied. Can I ask you to undelete it, please, and move it to the proper Axe Murder Boyz title? Thanks. --badlydrawnjeff talk 15:54, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

I've undeleted it and moved it to User:King of Hearts/Notepad/Userfy/Axe Murder Boyz. If notability is asserted and I approve of it, I will move it to Axe Murder Boyz in the main namespace. -- King of 21:10, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
Notability is already asserted in the article you've undeleted, via their national tour. Regardless, their official site notes their national tour on the "Guillotine Tour" (as well as links to tickets for eachvenue at the headliner's site) and are currently out on a second tour, they had an album reviewed in a Detriot paper , had their song in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. As notability was asserted, it really wasn't an A7, but hopefully that clears things up a bit. --badlydrawnjeff talk 21:28, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
Good! Now put it in there and clarify. -- King of 21:29, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
....done...--badlydrawnjeff talk 21:34, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
Unfortunately, several links are not enough. Change them into references and paraphrase/use information from them to add content. You may want to read WP:BAND. -- King of 21:36, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
I'm quite familiar with it, actually. The links verify the nobility, and nobility was asserted anyway, making the speedy null. I'm merely adding the links as embedded citations, which is entirely reasonable. --badlydrawnjeff talk 22:01, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
Try expanding the article (especially the lead) so that the notability is more obvious. -- King of 00:37, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
The notability is obvious. I don't understand what your objection is at this point. --badlydrawnjeff talk 02:32, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
It isn't that obvious to me? Bring it up to check, fella, then it'll be put in. Don't argue, just excel at the article! HawkerTyphoon 03:49, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
One would think that if I had the current opportunity to do so, I would. The point was that this was a misplaced speedy, and, as notability is established, it should simply be restored and it will be improved. Not that difficult. --badlydrawnjeff talk 10:38, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
As this hasn't been dealt with in a few days, and you have been around to do so, I've listed this at DRV. --badlydrawnjeff talk 04:56, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

User: Have You Ever Seen the Rain?

Hi, I had to create an alternate sn to do this, but I wanted to ask about a username block I received a couple of weeks ago. I created the screen name earlier this month, I believe, but haven't add time to contribute to the Wiki, so I hadn't seen this until the other day. I'm not sure why this has been banned, as I find nothing inappropriate about it; it's just representative of my love of CCR. What can I do to get the block lifted? Duplicate notes in an article

This is an updated version of an earlier e-mail. It adds diagnostic observations I just made.

Help.

I've been working for months on an article on thermodynamic temperature. I just now noticed that the references (notes) repeat themselves. They go from 1 to 23 and then repeat themselves again (beginning with #24) until there are a total of 46. Also, the very first reference in the article (which should be numbered #1) is now labeled #24.

If I go to the history tab and click the current version (http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Thermodynamic_temperature&oldid=72654119), the article appears correctly. But if I click on the article itself, the problem appears again. Consequently, with the history appearing correctly this way, I can not examine old versions to see when the problem first occurred. I have however, tried eliminating the animation and that did not solve the problem.

In an effort to further diagnose the problem, I copied old versions of the article to my User page and found that much older versions (that I know did not exhibit this behavior) now also display incorrectly. Again, the problem does not appear when viewing the current or old versions from within the history tab; only when viewing the current version in the normal fashion using the article tab. There apparently has recently been a change to the display behavior of Misplaced Pages that is causing this "duplicate" references problem.

I see that the article on the United States (which contains 94 references) displays correctly. The unique characteristic of the Thermodynamic temperature article may be the amount of text in its 23 references. So that there is no duplicate effort, I also appealed for help at info-en-v@wikimedia.org.   Greg L 19:38, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Fixed. I received the following e-mail from Misplaced Pages:
It's a known problem - I've seen it mentioned several times today - and it
seems to have been fixed; the problem is that the fix apparently requires us
to purge the entire cache, which takes a lot of time. However, as a
workaround, it *appears* to resolve itself if you purge the cache of the page
- try adding ?action=purge to the end of the URL.
So I added the ?action=purge at the end of the URL and that fixed it. Please delete this section entry at your convenience.   Greg L 21:41, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Drini and the CVU deletion

You, like so many other Wikipedians, seem to have felt that Drini's actions in the CVU deletion proccess were wholly inappropriate and did not follow policy. As a result, I'm forming an ad-hoc group of sorts composed of people interested in removing Drini. If you'd like to be involved, just drop me a note. ShortJason 20:10, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

I don't really see how you can say the edits I made to custard are 'nonsense.' The notable persons I mentioned who are fans of custard have had their fondness for the treat documented in the public record. I'd be more than happy to direct you to a text by Catherine the Great to Voltaire, for instance, in which the queen mentions a dish of "eggs and sugar." If you're more of an expert on custard than I am, I challenge you to prove it. In the meantime, I'd appreciate it if you left my epicurean edits to themselves. Regards.
