The CIS Tower is the second tallest building in Manchester, England. Measuring 120 metres tall, the glass roofed building is home to Co-operative Financial Services. The building was built in 1962.
Currently the building is undergoing a major facelift as it is to be clad in solar panels which will be able to power over 75 homes. The project is now complete and the tower has since lost its title as the tallest building in Manchester to the Beetham Tower which is 171m tall. The tower also has an urban wind farm on its roof, made up of 19 1Kw wind turbines.
As a legacy of the cold war era, it contains a nuclear bunker beneath designed to house the company's directors in the event of a nuclear war.
