Yarımca (also, Yarmıca and Yarymdzha) is a village and municipality in the Babek Rayon of Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan. It is located 8 km in the north-east from the district center, on the bank of the Nakhchivanchay River, on the foothill area. Its population is busy with grain-growing, vegetable-growing, horticulture and animal husbandry. There are secondary school, two libraries, club, mosque and a medical center in the village. It has a population of 1,363.
Etymology
In the past, as a result of the settlement by the group of families from the same village in the land which belonged to the old village, the new settlement used to be called Yarımca (Yarymdzha). The name means "half of the village". The population of the new village wasn't had the independent name, because they were part of the same community with the old village.
Historical and archaeological monuments
Yarımca
Yarımca - the place of residence of the Bronze Age (2nd millennium BC) in the same named village of the Babek rayon. Was recorded in 1977. Its area is 2 hectares. The thickness of cultural layer is 2 m. The remains are now under the modern buildings and gardens. Surface materials consists from the products of the ceramic, fragments of the obsidian and flint, stone tools. From the cultural layer, have been found mostly the fragments of the potteries in the red and gray colored. As a result of excavations, from the settlement were found the clay pots painted in monochrome which is typical for the middle Bronze Age of Nakhchivan.
Yarımca Necropolis
Yarımca Necropolis - archaeological monument near the same named village of Babek rayon. Was recorded in 1977. The graves are in rectangular form, oriented towards from the west to the east. Most of the head stones of the graves are destroyed. The kept head stones consist from the flat slabs, upper part completed with ending of the crown-shaped. On the some of head stones are found the writing the Arabic-language with naskh or smooth handwriting, as well as the stone ram status on the gravestones. The cemetery belongs to the 10-15 centuries.
