Basic Information
The 49th Annual Grammy Awards will honor the best in Music of the Recording Year of 2006. The 2006 recording year started on October 1, 2005 and will end on September 30, 2006. The awards will be handed out on Sunday February 11, 2007 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA.
Voting
The only people who are allowed to vote for the Grammy Awards are those who are members of the National Academy of the Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS). In order to be a member you need to have worked on 6 albums (In terms of production, engineering, mixing, or being the recording artist). NARAS members are peers of all who submit their work to the recording Academy. NARAS members are to vote based upon the quality of the work that has been submitted. It is highly stressed to voting NARAS members not to look at sales or charts when voting. Artists, producers, engineers/mixers or record companies are allowed to make submissions to the Recording Academy. The Deadline for all submissions for the 49th Annual Grammy Awards is September 1, 2006. Nomminating ballots are sent to NARAS members by October 1, 2006 which is after the 2006 recording year ends. On the ballot you are allowed to nomminated any of the work submitted. You can only vote in 8 fields other than the General Field. You can vote to nomminate up to 5 works in for an award. After a member is done nomminating, he or she will sent the ballot back to NARAS' headquaters in Santa Monica, CA. Once the nomminating process is complete the votes are counted. The artists who recieved the top 5 most votes become the nomminees for the 49th Annual Grammy Awards. (Note: fewer or less than 5 nomminees is the result of a tie). The nomminations will be announced on December 2, 2006. The voting ballots will be mailed to every NARAS member. They are all allowed to vote in the General field which includes the awards for Record, Album & Song of the Year as well as Best New Artist. NARAS members can vote in 8 other fields however the Latin field is voted on by members of the Latin Academy of the Recording Arts & Sciences (LARAS). NARAS members are to judge by quality, not sales or charts when casting votes. After casting votes the ballots are to be mailed back to NARAS's headquaters in Santa Monica, CA. All the votes are counted. The ones who have the most amount of votes for an award are proclaimed as the winners. The winners are announced on Sunday, February 11, 2007 at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards.
Awards
108 Different Awards will be handed out on Grammy Night. Most awards will be handed out at the pre telecast portion of the show.
Possible Nomminations or winners
Many well respected names in Music have released albums in 2006. A lot are previous winners. Some of them include Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, The Dixie Chicks, Shakira and many more. Some are led to believe that artists like Beyonce or Shakira who already have a history of winning many different awards at different award shows might not have a big win. Beyonce has won 9 Grammys to this day and some believe that voters might not want to vote for her because of her big wins in the past. Shakira is one of the most honored Latin artists of all time in terms of awards. She has won many Latin Grammy Awards. Many believe that Christina Aguilera's "Back to Basics" might be able to win big. She has won 3 grammys to this date and many believe that voters might take that into consideration. They may not want to give awards to someone who has won really big in the past but to someone who has won a few. Her album has a lot of Jazz and blues influence. In 2003 Norah Jones's "Come Away with Me" had a lot of Jazz influence in it. It may have got the voting members who just vote in the Jazz field to come to vote in the Pop and General Fields as well. That might have been why she won Album of the Year beating out rock legend Bruce Springsteen. Many fans of Jazz and Blues have been impressed by Christina Aguilera. If she can get people in the Jazz and Blues field to come out to vote for her in the pop and general fields she might be able to win big or perhaps make Grammy history. If nomminated for Album of the Year, this can make her possibly end up beating out big names such as Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Beyonce, The Dixie Chicks, Shakira, and OutKast to take home the world's biggest prize in music.
Other possible winners include John Mayer, Mariah Carey, Bob Dylan, P!nk, Pearl Jam, Beyonce, OutKast and The Dixie Chicks.
