Bee-eater

It's an article I meant to get to featured myself. So I'm happy to claw out some time to help write and pick over it. I've actually spent a lot of time training as a copy-editor in real life recently so I can certainly help in that regard. Hell, I need something to help pull me back in here, there is plenty that needs doing still. Sabine's Sunbird talk 05:37, 16 October 2016 (UTC)

Sabine's Sunbird, that's great! I want to start adding stuff on predators and parasites, but otherwise I think it's a matter of polishing more than content. The trick with these family articles is, I think, making them comprehensive without getting too bogged down in detail. I have the Fry book and an HBW subscription. I went to see a Siberian Accentor yesterday, amazing bird, made the nationals Jimfbleak (talk) 05:53, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
Just got back from Ethiopia, where I picked up a number of Horn of Africa and local endemics. I wasn't there for birding and basically just wetted my appetite, but it was fun. Finally saw a Red-billed Chough, a bird I could never find in North wales! Sabine's Sunbird talk 06:09, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
Wow x 2 to newspapers and Ethiopia! @Sabine's Sunbird: did you take any photos of birds in Ethiopia? Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 09:42, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
This spring I watched European bee-eaters nesting behind a beach in Corsica. They are beautiful birds and the sight helped persuade my wife that birds are interesting. Aa77zz (talk) 10:10, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
@Sabine's Sunbird:, Ethiopia sounds great, although I don't think I'll be able to talk my wife into it, Mexico was a hard sell. Aa77zz, yes, all bee-eaters are fabulous to see. I was "guided" to this topic by my wife's insistence that I do something less boring than a rock pipit as the next FAC! Jimfbleak (talk) 13:37, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
Ethiopia is experiencing some f=difficulties at the moment, best to let it settle down and become safer again. I'd suggest South Africa as a non-birder friendly country - the wine country around Cape Town is divine! And Cas, I got a few but not many new ones, my camera broke. Sabine's Sunbird talk 16:52, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
Def some new rules there. Approve of no inline in lead, but no links to countries? Interesting. Happy to keep discussions to talk page of article. Sabine's Sunbird talk 06:07, 17 October 2016 (UTC)

Need your opinion

If you'd take a look here and see what needs to be done. He clearly violated WP:PA numerous times. CrashUnderride 05:26, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

Crash, I agree that the behaviour is inappropriate; I get the impression this is a kid, with the "he started it" argument on his talk page, the aggressive "I'll do want I want" approach and the silly refusal to sign his messages, but that's no excuse. He's been warned by experienced user Jim1138 and I've followed that up with what I hope is a gently phrased comment that nevertheless makes it clear that I'll block his account if necessary. Let's see if that works, if not, well, he's been warned... Jimfbleak (talk) 05:55, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
Thank you, I really appreciate it. CrashUnderride 05:58, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

Company promotion

Hi Jim, I just created a new page. I am new to wikipedia, so I admit that something could have gone wrong. I saw you just deleted the page I created. It took me a bit of time to put it together as I'm not a native english speaker. Could you reasonably explain me why you deleted a page from an existing record label that helps new emerging acts? Noise Praise records is a London-based independent record label, active since 2012. We are planning to release our 8th EP by the end of the year. For the last 5 years we've been involved in scheduling events in cinemas all over London and Antwerp, The Caulfield Beats' music have been premiered on Dazed and Confused and Boiler Room.. Is that not enough for having a wiki page? What should we do then? I reckon that some suggestions on the content of my page might be necessary, but to remove the page is extremely unfair and denotes a lack of investigation (I put links on the page you deleted, if you just clicked on one of the links, you could have discovered that a website really exists). Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks a lot. Best regards. NicoNoisePraise (talk) 08:56, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

Replied on user talk page, non-notable, company account Jimfbleak (talk) 06:40, 23 October 2016 (UTC)

Company Promotion

Hey Jim, you deleted my page Echo Calls. Which was a history writeup for the company Echo Calls. I followed all the same steps as the history writeup on "Duck Commander" wiki page which is also a duck call company. So how is my post promotional and there's is not? Isn't that a little double standard? In no way did I ever mention anybody needed to go buy products from Echo Calls. It gave a history writeup on the company. Replied on user talk page, repeat copyright violation, blatant spam, no evidence of notability and obvious conflict of interest Jimfbleak - talk to me? 16:08, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
Operating at least three accounts to promote company, all now blocked Jimfbleak - talk to me? 07:07, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

A cup of coffee for you!

Thanks for doing CSD review. Could you please restore Dubai Parks and Resorts and AfD it if you want it deleted? Thanks. See Draft talk:Dubai Parks and Resorts. Blue Rasberry (talk) 10:44, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
Blue Rasberry it's appalling spam, complete with numerous trademark and registered mark symbols. It's not our job to protect those. I've restored this because you are a GF editor, but I've cleared out the most blatant of the spam. If that material is restored, I'll speedy again. The nomination and my speedy were clearly justified, so AfD doesn't come into it, there was nothing to discuss (and the result would surely have been "speedy delete"). I'm hoping you can make something of this, I think even my version is too promotional. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 12:50, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
Blue Rasberry I've indefinitely blocked DPR 2016, the creator of this article, so that should make your life easier unless a sock arises Jimfbleak - talk to me? 12:55, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. I know it is troublesome to address promotional content. You did a great job pruning it.
I took an interest in this because the company made a sincere effort to research copyright and make solid releases of some promotional images. Misplaced Pages does not have any other architectural design mockups, so far as I know, and they did a great job of getting their legal counsel to confirm transfer of copyright from the architectural firm. I am more persuaded to look at this kind of content when it sets a precedent for good collaboration and in some ways, this case did. Blue Rasberry (talk) 13:33, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
Blue Rasberry, I understand what you are saying, but it is, of course, a breach of our terms and conditions to operate a company, or any other, shared account. If the company released stuff, that's good, but clearly motivated by self-interest rather than a wish to improve the encyclopaedia. Good luck anyway Jimfbleak - talk to me? 14:23, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

You indefinitely protected this in September 2014. Would you consider removing protection? Any disruption would have long gone. LibStar (talk) 12:28, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

LibStar, fair enough, let's see what happens Jimfbleak - talk to me? 12:58, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

Sterling Payment Technologies

Hello Jim. I am a relatively new user. I have been trying to submit a page for Sterling Payment Technologies. I recently submitted a draft, which was denied for submission and then deleted by you sometime today. It was flagged for G11 and G12. I wanted to discuss this further to get to the bottom of why you flagged it for those reasons and what I can do to get this page accepted. I appreciate any and all help you can offer. Thank you. Nicobryan (talk) 19:33, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

Nicobryan I am the user who tagged it as such because it was not only blatant advertising but it was also literal word-for-word advertising from the company's own website, that is not tolerated and any attempts shall have deletion and, with persistence, locking. Even if they were not copypasted contents, they would not be acceptable because (hence what I said earlier) it would still be advertising and it would not matter even if you are the website's owner. As with any Draft and article, it's best to only start with the best basics which is in-depth third-party news sources overall, but not press releases, news about funding, financing and partnerships, trivial passing mentions, interviews or other triviality about the company itself. Note also this user has literally submitted the same G12 contents at 2 different places, see talk page. SwisterTwister talk 04:49, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
Nicobryan, just to add to SwisterTwister's helpful comments
  • Copyrighted text is not allowed in Misplaced Pages. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain.
  • You did not provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the company, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the company claims or interviewing its management.
  • There weren't even any facts to show notability as defined above, just a promotional claim of what you sell
  • You have an obvious conflict of interest when it comes to editing articles about this subject. If you work directly or indirectly for the company, or otherwise are acting on its behalf, you are very strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly. Regardless, if you are paid directly or indirectly by the company you are writing about, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Jimfbleak. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Jimfbleak|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}.
