Prof. S. Ramanathan (1917 - 1988) was a Carnatic music singer and musicologist. He received a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut.

Ramanathan learnt music from Tiger Varadachar, Sabesa Iyer, Ponniah Pillai, and Sathur Krishna Iyengar.
