Hi Johnleemk, Welcome to wikipedia! I just wanted to point out, in case you didn't already know about it, that there is also a Malay wikipedia and a Chinese wikipedia. If you can read or write any of these languages, why not give us a visit too? Best, -- Kowey 14:08, 19 Feb 2004 (UTC)
Thanks, Kowey. Chinese isn't really my forte, but I might contribute infrequently to the Malay wikipedia. -- Johnleemk 15:06, 19 Feb 2004 (UTC)~
Table width
The tables youre adding to the various PM articles are too wide (taking over half the page on my 1024px screen and probably almost all of an 800px screen. Note what I did for Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. You might want to try the same for the others. --Jiang 08:34, 6 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Categories
I've been adding the Beatles-related articles into categories because - and I'm not being flippant here - I can. That's the main motivation, we have categories, they're a good idea, they should be used. The album pages are the best example of this; it's not possible to have them listed by year, artist, genre etc without someone slowly driving themselves insane by trying to maintain a list. I've tried to do what I can about fixing the breakages categories cause; but with album pages, they were broken already, and it's going to take a bit of effort to get the tables working right again. Hope that's a satisfactory enough answer. Take care. -- Jim Regan 07:17, 31 May 2004 (UTC)
I've fixed the problem with the infoboxes. -- Jim Regan 09:15, 31 May 2004 (UTC)
How Many Petals Around the Rose?
Greetings John. I thought I'd just mention the paragraph under the How Many Petals Around the Rose? heading on your user page. You refer to dice six times but actually mean die. Don't worry, this is not a criticism. We ALL learn something new every day. Cheers. Moriori 21:28, Jun 10, 2004 (UTC)
Question re:VFD
Is it just me, or did you do something that resulted (possiby through MediaWiki being buggy) in turning the section on Bible Atrocities into a duplication of the preceding section, and then proceed to delete the duplicate, leaving no resolution to the bible thing? -- कुक्कुरोवाच|Talk‽ 01:26, 11 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Did you take a look at the link? (The Diff implies that you deleted the Bible Atrocities section and replaced it with a duplicate Bergger section. I assume this wasn't something you decided to, but rather some kind of glitch. In any case, if you don't know what I'm talking about, I suppose I can simply restore it. -- कुक्कुरोवाच|Talk‽ 02:28, 11 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Dear Mr.King...
The following group of words from you unfortunately came to my notice. I have added my responses to them.
Hi, you've made some edits to Coca-Cola recently.
- May be. Thanks for your notice.
Misplaced Pages appreciates your contributions to our database of knowledge, but we would appreciate it if you had a little Wikiquette.
- I never knew wikipedia has appointed you as their spokesperson. I thought everyone is same in this open domain. Anyway wikipedia appreciates your comment. But we dislike subtle arrogance, if you had meant it that way!
The talk page for the article (Talk:Coca-Cola) indicates that this article has been nominated for featured status at Misplaced Pages:Featured article candidates. The discussion there is somewhat vital to understanding some of the article's contents.
- Misplaced Pages appreciates your vital understanding. Keep it up. But I have to call your ignorant remark as preposterous, if you had meant that I did not have a 'vital' understanding.
Therefore, I hope you understand that I am reinstating the mention of Pepsi in the opening paragraph, as I think that if you wanted a quick overview of what Coca-Cola is, you shouldn't need to look further than the first paragraph, and the Coke-Pepsi relationship definitely needs mentioning as has been agreed in the discussion at Featured article candidates, especially since although it is implicitly implied elsewhere in the article that they are rivals, there has been no explicit mention. Thanks, and I hope you'll be able to help us in improving many more articles in the future. Johnleemk | Talk 08:13, 8 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- Your higness, there is something I should disclose to you. I have been contributing to this wikipedia ever since its inception. But I have never created an account till now - for it is my humble POV that an opensource and a free domain has no rulers and nobody claims responsibility for the content! Besides, I hate beaurocrats and red-tapism - I myself did not want to become one just by typing word salads in all the pages. Neither I have the time nor I am interested in that. And I believe in the age old fact that 'anonymity is power'. Unfortunately, in the last few months I have been noticing sheer ignorance of this fact amidst the users of this domain and individual users are being sent messages as subtle warnings/intimidations in the name of talk messages. This is absolutely against the policy of a truly open encyclopedia. I am against vandalism. But I am also against this subtle coercion being exhibited by these self-styled kings and queens of a supposedly democratic system. I can assert with confidence that wikipedia will never represent the truth if the healthy 'war of words' is suppressed in any form. If you want to channel the discussion in any way according to your POV, then the entire discussion becomes a piece of garbage. The other thing I wanted to bring to your notice, your highness, is this increasing number of 'monday morning quarterbacks'. My question to them is, instead of criticizing an effort, why not go and change the concerned page themselves? Nobody is awarded the Nobel prize if the article they nominated is featured :)
Just like everyone else, I too consider that all other human beings except me are dumb idiots! And if your message was intended as an intimidation - not to offend you but this has happened before, kindly take note that I consider most of these 'administrators' as the most ignorant morons of this universe. But if your intention was noble, thanks from the bottom of my heart. Also please note that whatever you have written above is not going to change what I feel like doing in that concerned page. Because, I really want this wikipedia to survive. Just like you, I am a strong supporter of all these supposedly/'trying to be' open source endeavours, for a little more number of years than you.
Misplaced Pages appreciates your contributions. Please continue your good effort :)--Drbalaji md 08:52, 9 Jul 2004 (UTC)
RFA & RFC
Hi, Johnleemk.
Thanks for the admin nomination and thanks for your kind words on that page. I have no desire to become an administrator, but I'm enjoying the discussion, so you'll forgive me if I continue to spectate for a little while longer :-)
As for our friend Drbalaji md, I meant to tell you how impressed I was by your response on his talk page. An impeccable example of grace under pressure. I fear that getting drawn into a long, forensic indictment of his smiley-tinged "bad guy wrestler" shtick might wind up precipitating us all into a YHBT abyss. Hopefully, simply listing the "Drbalaji" persona on RFC will persuade him to concentrate instead on the neglected "Flagfanatic" routine, which has much greater comic potential :-)
chocolateboy 14:04, 13 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- Ditto here. Johnleemk showed amazing maturity and coolness in responding to DrBalaji. Despite all provocations what he got finally was an ass-word and he had to do with it. It teaches me to be extra-careful as even a single word could be used against you. By the way, why have you said in your user page "my biggest regret is forgetting to login while writing Education in Malaysia". Hope you are aware of this page : Misplaced Pages:Changing attribution for an edit. Jay 15:06, 13 Jul 2004 (UTC)
RFC
I haven't participated in an RFC before, so I'm not aware of the ground rules. What is the intention of placing DrBalaji in RFC and what are the objectives ? Jay 16:45, 13 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- Ya I had the other day read through the RFC page written by you. But my questions remain unanswered, what is the intention and the objectives. "It's basically a place for any user to bring up possible violations of Misplaced Pages policy by other users". Fine, then what ? It helps in what way ? Jay 18:53, 14 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Captions
Hi, Johnleemk, thanks for stepping in and captioning images on Coca-Cola. I hope you don't mind that I touched them up just a little to make them full sentences. Please do caption some other articles, too! -- ke4roh 14:53, Jul 20, 2004 (UTC)
Sorry, I did that full-sentence thing on crushing by elephant, too. Proper attribution of images is excellent information on the image description page, and sometimes it just doesn't seem to fit in the caption. What do you think of it now? FYI, there are some good captioning tips at Misplaced Pages:Captions. Many thanks for your help with the captions project! I certainly appreciate it. -- ke4roh 14:24, Jul 23, 2004 (UTC)

I would have to agree with Exploding Boy - the article could do with being completely rewritten from top to bottom. I'm going to leave it well alone for a few weeks and hopefully when I come back to it the writing will have improved. ChicXulub 23:06, Jul 29, 2004 (UTC)

NO OFFENCE INTENDED
Sorry you felt slighted by my reply to your helpul advise about using upper case. I do not spend so much time online as to understand such conventions, which seem obscure to me. However I have taken your advise. The point about Swanscombe was the only reference I could think about to reason from whence your message came. Live and learn!
PS I am not really so angry but think wikipedia could benefit from a few new conventions relating to he casual way in which people make clean-up requests. I have like most contributors spent a lot of time prepaing articles for the encyclopedia, and am often gratified to see others work on them, I wouldnt bother otherwise, but wish that others would be a little more considerate before condeming the odd item out of hand.
I am trying to compile a list of items about the lord wardens o the cinque ports, and must admit to getting a bit confused along the way. When I make errors, which I do, I expect someone to pick up on them, but I have found plenty of examples of badly written pages, and if I can I try to improve upon them, not complain about it. The feature of clean-up is a useful tool however, perhaps I am wrong, and should start using it?... Thanks again, I am not so involved in the wiki community as to have much contact with any one, and those people who make an effort to contact me are given full consideration and you just got me on a bad day, having spent the entire week resetting my pc and killing spyware intrusions, I guess. Cheers, all the same. Faedra.

FAC overload
John - you recently nominated 7 (!) articles on the FAC. As the instructions say Please do not place more than one nomination at a time — if too many nominations exist at once, it is difficult to do the article and objections justice. - we didn't set a hard limit on nominations per user, but 7 is just utterly ridiculous. It's also inconsiderate of others who have nominations there and would like those nominations to get attention as well. As such, I've 6 of the nominations (the 7th already had comments). →Raul654 17:54, Sep 11, 2004 (UTC)

- Well, didn't make it ... this time. i'll keep on working on the article, and try to expand the fish part. Maybe I'll nominate it again in a few months. I still think it is feature quality (including the consumption). Anyway, thanks for your comments, they definitely improved the article. -- Chris 73 Talk 13:39, Sep 20, 2004 (UTC)

Hard Day's Night (song)
Good contribution on one of my favourite songs, but I must disagree with one of your comments:
"A Hard Day's Night is probably the only Beatles song that is recognisable within two seconds, thanks to George Harrison's unmistakable Rickenbacker 12-string guitar's opening chord."
Well, yes, it is recognisable, but two seconds into Hey Jude, Paul has already sung the title. Help! is another song where the title is the first thing heard. So I wouldn't really say it's the only one recognisable that early!

Your comment on RfA
CyborgTosser is up for nomination for admin again, a month after being voted down. You had a neutral position then, saying he has had little to no interaction on the site with others. That's not to mention his <1000 edits, 150+ of them which were on his talk page. I completely agree with your sentiment, he mostly edits on science fiction and music pages, as well as EE, and rarely ventures even into discussion pages, never mind have an actual discussion in them. This has not changed since you suggested it a month ago. And since he never interacts with anyone - why does he need to be admin? I want to see him try to resolve some contentious page like some Israel/Palestine one or something so I can see if he can deal with being an admin.
Here's his RfA page: Misplaced Pages:Requests_for_adminship/CyborgTosser

links and references
I understand your point. I had the same thought before I made the change. But I think they are both links and references and thus could go in both places. I would venture to guess that a huge number of Misplaced Pages pages have links that are also sources. For scholarship it is great that there are references. For making the page more valuable to users I think it would be better to have links. I bet most people gloss over references but explore the links. It was for these reasons that I put them in the list of links. Alan Pollack's notes are most definitely referred to in the article, and the Beatle's official website a very usefull link. Should they go in both places? --Samuel Wantman 06:46, 23 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Question about Preliminary Deletion
Hi there. I have a question about the corollary for handling a possible caveat of the preliminary deletions policy. It says "that each article must receive at least two "keep" votes before going to VFD." Later, it says that "if 90% or more votes are for delete, then the article will not be listed on VFD until the percentage of delete votes drop below 90%."
So what happens if the article has two votes (which should normally send it to VFD), but the percentage of delete votes is over 90%? If no more "keep" votes are added, and the percentage of delete votes never drops below 90%, what happens to the article? Is it declared that consensus hasn't been reached? Is it deleted? Is it sent to VFD anyways? Will votes by striked out? I tried asking on #wikipedia, but nobody seemed to know :(. Thank you for your anticipated response. -] 03:53, 30 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks :) -] 16:40, 30 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Wikinews demo up and running
Hi!
I'm writing to let you know that the Wikimedia Board of Trustees has approved the first stage of the Wikinews project. There's now a fully operational English demo site at demo.wikinews.org. This will be used for experimenting with various review models and basic policies before the site is launched officially in about a week. demo.wikinews.org will become the English version later.
You voted for the Wikinews project, so I'm asking for your participation now. Everything is open, nothing is final. What Wikinews will and can be depends in large part on you. There already is a global Wikinews mailing list for discussing the project. If you are interested at all, please subscribe -- coordination is of key importance. There's also an IRC channel #wikinews on irc.freenode.net. Realtime discussion can help to polish up articles.
If you're looking for something to do, check out the articles in development and articles in review. Or start a new story in the Wikinews workspace, or ignore the proposed review system - it's up to you. I hope you'll join us soon in this exciting experiment.--Eloquence* 01:59, Nov 17, 2004 (UTC)
