The Columbian Worlds Fair of Chicago, Illinois, also called the "The World's Columbian Exposition, The Chicago World's Fair of 1893, was a world wide exhibit organized to celebrate the 400th Anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s discovery of the new world. The fair was spectacular and lived up to its goal of being a world wide exhibition of human development and technology.
Surrounding the fair was a teeming amusement park, featuring George Ferris's huge new wheel. Ferris designed his most famous entertainment structure to showcase American technology at the fair. The axle of the Ferris Wheel was the largest steel forging in the world. There were many new technologies presented at this world's fair. Also, the postcard, cream of wheat, and the hamburger were first marketed in Chicago in 1893. Musician Scott Joplin played his innovative new music and people could sip and enjoy the newly developed carbonated soft drink.
