The Railgon Company owned railroad gondola cars that could be used by multiple railroads without having to deadhead (return to their origin empty), which was required under the pre-Staggers Act regulatory regime. The Railgon Company was a cooperative owned by multiple railroads.

Railgon (and the similar Railbox Company) are currently subsidiaries of TTX Corporation, formerly the Trailer Train Company, which is owned by multiple railroads and leases cars to them. There are currently 1188 cars in the Railgon fleet, compared with over 13,000 boxcars in the Railbox fleet.
