Multiplexes

I agree with making it clear (on US 52) what's a multiplex, but I don't think they should be in their own section, to keep everything in order along the road. --SPUI (talk) 01:07, 26 Feb 2005 (UTC)

RI routes

I managed to fix the extra whitespace - see RI 1A. --SPUI (talk) 01:33, 1 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Also, can you add to the part of RI 51 about RIDOT taking down the signs after being asked to by the towns? --SPUI (talk) 02:00, 1 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Holy shit

Check out the 1972 (lower left) configuration in Image:I-95_RI_exit_27.jpg, specifically the one-way roads. The bridge carrying US 1 over I-95 was one-way south. 1962 (upper right) had a short one-way pair as well. --SPUI (talk) 22:35, 3 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Yo

I'm making maps for the routes - I've made Image:RI 1A map.png so far. I'd like to be sure everything in the base map (Image:RI State Highways base.png) is fine before continuing. Two things I can think of:

  • Does 179 end at 81 or the state line?
  • What do various sources say about 114 in Cumberland? Other than that one wicked old reassurance, it appears most if not all signs putting it on the northern route say TO 114, while the 123 route has the signs at the split from 123.

--SPUI (talk) 15:44, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Signage also shows 114 with 123 though, and most of the signage putting 114 on Blackstone says TO 114. It could be argued in the same way that 138 southbound stays with 24 until exit 2. Eh, I'll probably keep what I have. Any comments on the format of the maps? --SPUI (talk) 17:47, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

  • Signage going both ways on 114 specificially show 114 turning onto Blackstone. Southbound on Diamond Hill, there's a large green sign that points 114 to the right onto Blackstone. Going Northbound on Broad, there is a 114 trailblazer that points it to the right onto Blackstone.
  • The maps look great. One question though, what does green signify vs. red? --Analogdemon (talk) 17:54, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I seem to remember at least one of those signs saying TO 114. I'll keep it there though. Green is locally maintained and red is state maintained {I explain that in the caption on RI 1A). By the way, to get the signature, simply click the second-to-last button above the text box; it inserts the text --~~~~. --SPUI (talk) 18:51, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hmmm, the green in Westerly is rather hard to make out on the thumbnail - I'll try with different colors. --SPUI (talk) 18:55, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Dual Disc FA objections

I don't want to seem too negative, but I don't think you could put anything in the article that would overcome my main objection, which is that the article can't be both comprehensive and stable, as required by FAC guidelines. The situation, for lack of a better word, is developing fairly rapidly -- I saw, for example, a "recent developments" article in the new ICE magazine this week. To oversimplify an analogy, I wouldn't support any FAC for an article on "The 2005 baseball season," no matter how good it was, until the season was over. FWIW, I also think the SACD discussion is out-of-date, given Sony's pullback, and there's a reference to a November 2005 article that I assume is misdated. Monicasdude 17:17, 18 August 2005 (UTC)

Whoever designed that should be in the genius category with whoever designed that US 7/VT 7A bypass interchange around Bennington, VT. I guess the person that owns that building and the property where the right turn ramp should be was a holdout. Good for that person. It looks like it didn't stop MDOT from building the interchange. --Analogdemon (talk) 13:27, 16 September 2005 (UTC)

What?

Why does that get a "what the fuck"? It's a standard interchange between two main roads. --SPUI (talk) 20:54, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

Seasonal Affective Disorder

Anchorage is the only big city in the United States that is north of 50 degrees latitude. The SAD article singles out 50 degrees as the point above which SAD is a big problem. So the justification for the comment you reverted is in the SAD article, in my opinion. (Whether that can be backed up by sources is yet another story.)—GraemeMcRae 23:58, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

That's fair. I should have looked at that. In that case, I'll explore trying to find a source for that information in the SAD article. Cheers! --Analogdemon (talk) 01:39, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
Good, thanks. ANFSCD, I enjoyed your user page, especially the shitty article candidate. If I didn't think it would get reverted right away, I would put that into a template, and then place the template in a few different articles, starting with Human sexual behavior.—GraemeMcRae 08:19, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

Nope, that's CA 163 (old US 395). The cool part is the temporary end of the freeway (still visible on aerials) with the section on two-lane road to reach the diamond. --SPUI (talk) 04:59, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

Fucken yo turducken

--SPUI (talk) 01:47, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

Hell yes. Nice jughandles. That reminds me of that part of US 91/466 that goes through the airport south of Las Vegas that I showed you the other day. They must have got rid of the single Y with US 2 once the NB 95 freeway was built on the Canadian side. Cool shit man. --Analogdemon (talk) 13:38, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

I am deeply offended...

...I mean honored by your SAC nomination. Not knowing exactly which article was nominated, I take it as a judgement of my work as a whole, and, once again, I couldn't be more pleased by the nomination. If I could be slightly serious for a minute, getting a shitty four-and-a-half point star is a pleasant reminder that this is just wikipedia, not world peace. We should all take a step back now and then, and just have a good laugh at all this.—GraemeMcRae 17:33, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

--SPUI (talk) 21:18, 29 November 2005 (UTC)

Looks like a few bits of I-278 are city-maintained - see . --SPUI (talk | don't use sorted stub templates!) 00:56, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

That's a bunch of shit. The City should not maintain a fucking Interstate. Oh well, it looks like the State is at least taking over mileage as they go, which is good. NYCDOT should not be in the business of maintaining fucking Interstates. --Analogdemon (talk) 01:43, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

Lincoln Highway

Nope. Princeton Pike is an old turnpike, while US 206 is an even older pre-turnpike road. The turnpike fell into disrepair, so the Lincoln Highway was routed over present US 206. It's much like US 1 and Route 1A south of Boston. --SPUI (talk - don't use sorted stub templates!) 21:51, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

Personal attacks

Could you please remove the personal attacks from your user page? Personal attacks are not conducive to civil discussions here on Misplaced Pages, so they are not allowed. See Misplaced Pages:No personal attacks. It would be best if you removed them voluntarily. You're free to express your disagreement with the arbitration committee, but namecalling isn't acceptable. Thanks. Rhobite 05:46, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Now please remove the link to the old version of your user page. This is the last warning you'll receive from me. Thanks. Rhobite 18:04, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

SPUI

Not a problem, SPUI was treated wrong, and I know how that feels. Hopefully my petition will be able to do something once enough people stand up and say that we need fair treatment for everybody. Karmafist 00:55, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Oh, the Sam Korn Thing

I know he's "one of them", but he's been a nice guy to me, and i'd like to ask you to remove all or some of them. I think that's the thread that's caused all of the problems here "they" have said "don't do this or else" "we"(although I admit, i've been a "they" at times when I was tired or frustrated)say "screw you" and the cycle of counterproductivity continues.

Hell, you don't have to get rid of all of them, you don't even have to listen me and you can keep them up there, but it'd be a big first step. Whatever happened has already happened, you can't change that. But you can change the present. Hopefully by doing that we can help Sam understand what's been going on, that the only way to beat hatred is not with more hatred but with friendship and kindness, he apologizes to SPUI, and the cycle of healing after all this nonsense can begin as we dissolve the "us" and "them" until there's only a "we" left. God, what I wouldn't give for that... Karmafist 01:51, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

You're right. I removed the stuff. --Analogdemon (talk) 01:53, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Your userpage

I removed some material from it. It should be clear by now to you and everyone else that our tolerance for that sort of material is low and our sense of humor regarding it is nonexistent. Please don't re-add it. The Uninvited Co., Inc. 01:58, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Analogdemon, you are mistaken concerning the policies of Misplaced Pages on user pages. The following is directly from Misplaced Pages:User page:

As a tradition, Misplaced Pages offers wide latitude to users to manage their user space as they see fit. However, pages in user space still do belong to the community. (emphasis added)

Removal

If the community lets you know that they'd rather you deleted some or other content from your user space, you should probably do so, at least for now - such content is only permitted with the consent of the community. After you've been here for a year or so, and written lots of great articles, the community may be more inclined to let you get away with it. Alternatively, you could move the content to another site, and link to it.
If you do not co-operate, we will eventually simply remove inappropriate content, either by editing the page (if only part of it is inappropriate), or by redirecting it to your main user page (if it is entirely inappropriate).
In excessive cases, your user subpage may be deleted, following a listing on Miscellany for deletion, subject to deletion policy. Please do not recreate content deleted in this way: doing so is grounds for immediate re-deletion (see candidates for speedy deletion). Instead, please respect our judgement about what is and is not appropriate.

Bratsche 21:48, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

As has been stated, user pages belong to the community. As a result, while there is more leeway, what you have been doing has exceeded the bounds of what many people consider good taste. You have already been asked by more than one admin to stop so please do so. Thanks - Damicatz 02:16, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

It Looks Like I Was Beaten To The Punch

By the time I got out of work tonight(around 10:30 EST), it had already been closed. Perhaps sanity is finally coming back to this place.Oh, I was wondering if you'd mind signing my petition. Karmafist 05:00, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Your User Page

Your argument is fallacious. Using a reductio ad absurdam, one could say, "If you don't like slavery, then don't own slaves," or "if you don't like strangling babies, then don't do it." Offensive content has no place on Misplaced Pages. 69.129.36.239 19:33, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

I seem to remember the phrase "user pages aren't encyclopedic", so your newest argument would fall under the logical fallacy of false analogy. And by a quick review of your talk page above, it would seem like the majority find it offensive, including several, ahem, administrators. 69.129.36.239 19:40, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
All of the encyclopedia is all of our concern. We're a community. And you should Misplaced Pages:Assume good faith in that I am trying to improve the community. Also, this doesn't fall under the category of "vandalism." See WP:IAR. 69.129.36.239 19:50, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
If your user page drives people away from the project, then it's bad. Which is exactly what is wrong. The onus isn't on me: it's on you to have a user page which somehow helps Misplaced Pages. And since you refuse to, then the onus shifts once again to the community, which I happen to be a part of, albeit anonymously. Oh, one more thing: I think you should read Misplaced Pages:Don't bite the newbies. You're doing it. 69.129.36.239 19:59, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

To clear any confusion

I'm assuming that you misunderstood my intentions. I was not complaining about the box itself. I was solely complaining about how you were intentionally fanning the flames to make a point. I hope this makes everything clear. Please ask if you have any questions. Sam Korn 00:46, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

My dear Analogdemon (now that is an original name! ;) I just wanted to thank you for your encouraging and kind message regarding my thoughts. I'm not an admin, so I can't delete it directly. Thanks very much for co-operating. It's just not a good idea to create temporary pages like that because eventually someone must delete them, and if everyone did it, the admins would have no time for anything else. Thanks again. Request for edit summary

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 31% for major edits and 60% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 10 minor edits outside the Misplaced Pages, User, Image, and all Talk namespaces.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear inpolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 03:34, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Good work

Hi Analogdemon. I think you're doing good work on the DVD Audio article, Beach Boys POV, and of course roads. Our interests overlap to some extent, which is why I'd be disappointed if you quit Misplaced Pages or got blocked. I don't mind anything on your user page right now, I guess I'm just puzzled about why you are (were) trying to push the envelope with its content. I'm also disappointed at SPUI's departure, but I can't say I'm surprised given his tendency to make personal attacks and to add provocative content to his user page. That's all I'll say about it, I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate the work you're doing, particularly on DVD-Audio. Rhobite 19:46, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Hey, can you do me a favor? Next time you're on I-95 near the Rhode Island/Massachusetts line, can you check for the highest milepost in Rhode Island? FHWA says I-95 is 42.36 miles in RI, but other sources indicate it's more than 43 miles, and I'd like to be sure before asking the FHWA if they made a typo. --SPUI (talk - RFC) 21:48, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

I'm 99.9% sure the last milepost is mile 42, just before the state line, but I'll make sure. I'll be up that way tomorrow. --Analogdemon (talk) 02:33, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Can you remind me in the next day or two to finish with the Pennsylvania Lincoln Highway book? It's due Saturday and I haven't yet gotten all the information. --SPUI (T - C - RFC) 06:05, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Check out what I found

Fuckers

This will be the first U.S. Route realigned onto an Interstate in Florida, not counting the two caused by necessity (I-275/US 19 over the Sunshine Skyway and I-4/US 92 (now redone with C/D roads) east of Tampa, where US 92 was upgraded on the spot at US 301). --SPUI (T - C - RFC) 08:17, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Also see this line from the standard AASHTO form:

The State agrees and pledges its good faith that it will not erect, remove, or change any U.S. or Interstate Route Markers on any road without the authorization, consent, or approval of the Standing Committee on Highways of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, not withstanding the fact that the changes proposed are entirely within this State.

Sospected sockpuppet of DPUI?

Hey, Analogdemon, are you a sockpuppet of DPUI or a sockpuppet of SPUI? Your page says DPUI. Is that a mistake? QuakeRanger 15:22, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

SPUI is a friend of mine. I made the account DPUI as a joke, and listed myself as a sockpuppet of it. The DPUI account has since been deleted for being too similar to SPUI, but I left the sockpuppet reference just for shits and giggles. --Analogdemon (talk) 15:35, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

I-670

Yeah, that whole area is a big clusterfuck. I think both directions used to go to the south. --SPUI (T - C - RFC - Curpsbot problems) 20:40, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

Check out what I found

--SPUI (T - C - RFC - Curpsbot problems) 03:42, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Holy maps! Very sweet. It looks like US 50 had a several hundred mile gap in it originallly between Ely, NV and Provo, UT. Also it looks like US 2 in VT originally went along US 302 and US 5 between Montpelier and St. Johnsbury. --Analogdemon (talk) 11:27, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Illinois Route 4

Check out the shield on the bridge. --SPUI (T - C - RFC) 10:17, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

HOLY FUCK. WOW!!!!! Does IL-4 pre-date US 66?
Yeah - Illinois Route 4 was the pre-1926 designation for US 66. It's still in use on a section south of Springfield that was bypassed early.
Here's another sign from about the same period. --SPUI (T - C - RFC) 23:11, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
Very cool!!!! --Analogdemon (talk) 23:57, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Cool MassHighway maps online

- especially check out the "Numbered Routes with Mile Points" linked from page 13. By the way, 80 apparently has a hanging end now, just like 147. (These maps don't show new US 44 yet though.) A few things I notice from a quick loop at the maps:

  • Route 9 has been relocated in Pittsfield. (More info here.)
  • Route 15 (extension of RI 15) exists!

I'll continue once I get back from biking. --SPUI (T - C - RFC) 10:42, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

  • Route 116 begins where it crosses under I-91 at the I-91 bridge over the Connecticut River; there's no access to I-91 there.
  • Mileposts on A routes continue through "secret multiplexes" with their parents.
  • Route 127 does in fact begin/end at the first rotary on Route 128 - it no longer ends at itself.
  • Routes 114 and 129 end at each other - I think we knew this.
  • Route 1A ends at the US 1/I-95/Route 128 cloverleaf in Dedham.
  • Route 38 is shown ending at Route 28. Route 99 begins south of Sullivan Square.

And some details from the database:

  • Route 99 begins at Austin Street/Gilmore Bridge.
  • Route 147 ends at US 5 in West Springfield.
  • Route 228 ends where the median begins and George Washington Boulevard accesses the northbound lanes, or maybe slightly further north.
  • (State) Route 3 becomes US 3 at Mass Ave! (I carefully checked the mileage in both directions; the maps also put a US 3 shield between Mass Ave and the BU Bridge.) So I guess the MDC didn't fuck up on that one sign. But they did fuck up the sign on the Longfellow.
  • Route 2 begins and ends at the corner of Charles Street and Beacon Street, which is what we basically knew.
  • The database shows old US 44 as Route 44A!
  • Many arterials are assigned a "secret" number from N001 to N474. Some numbers are skipped, implying that these numbers may have been around for a while. (N362 - the ramp from I-93 north at exit 37C - is the only one that's not an arterial at all; that could just be an error in the data.)

The Beatles discography detailed US LP discography

Great job so far in compiling a detailed discography of the original American Beatle LPs. The only thing I would suggest is to include the track listings. In the case of American LPs which exactly match the British LPs, simply state 'as British album.' I'll be looking forward to the Magical Mystery Tour (album) listing. Steelbeard1 16:13, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! I'll do that once I get all the LPs done. --Analogdemon (talk) 16:23, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Issue 2 – June 2006

Beatles News
  • Apple Corps v. Apple Computer. A case brought by Apple Corps against Apple Computer, regarding possible infringement of a previous agreement between the two parties in respect of distribution of music, was heard in a London High Court. The story made Misplaced Pages's front page due to a nomination by our own Kingboyk. The story had an amusing second wave in the news and on Misplaced Pages; be sure to read the article on Guy Goma if you missed it!
Project News
  • The hottest Project page this month has been Policy Talk, where some lively discussion has taken place regarding the (perennial) question of the capitalisation of the letter T in "The Beatles". After seeking the comments of Wikipedian third parties unrelated to the project, the proponents and opponents concluded that the current naming policy was correct. The discussion had the added bonus of bringing in some new members.
Member News
  • Project member (and "co-instigator" of The Beatles Project) Lar was made an Administrator. Project member Kingboyk (the other guilty party) has been awarded a Music Barnstar for his contributions, including his work within The Beatles Project, and has also stewarded the KLF article to Featured Article status this month. Sometimes-contributor ZincOrbie has also been awarded a Barnstar for his work on the Badfinger article. Congratulations to all!

License tagging for Image:Fresno river diagram.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Fresno river diagram.jpg. Misplaced Pages gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Misplaced Pages, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Misplaced Pages:Media copyright questions. 17:06, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Duuuuuuuuude

The numbering system for France's Route Nationales dates back to an 1824 modification of 1811 plans made under Napoleon. See fr:Réseau routier français#Premier Empire, fr:Réseau routier français#Restauration et Monarchie de Juillet "The imperial system of classification is re-examined in 1824 (it will almost not change until the downgradings of 1974)." and for instance fr:Route nationale 14 "It is into 1824 that one created the trunk road 14 following this layout.". Also see Talk:Route nationale (France)#Imperial routes for the simple renumbering in 1824. --SPUI (T - C) 18:45, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

  • New article classification system, for our use and for Misplaced Pages 1.0. Very important and we need editor involvement. How can you help? Rate articles! It's easy:
    • Visit Misplaced Pages:WikiProject The Beatles/Article Classification and read about how to grade.
    • Visit Category:Unassessed Beatles articles and select an article to review.
    • After deciding what grade it should have, modify the invocation of {{WPBeatles}} on the talk page to add parms. The template itself gives you the parameters to use. For example, change {{WPBeatles}} to {{WPBeatles|B|Low}} if you think it's a low-importance, B-class article. Save your changes and make sure the talk page is now showing the ratings.
    • Click on the link in the template to edit the /comments subpage and explain why you rated the article the way you did. Don't forget to sign with ~~~~. Save that too.
    • Questions? Ask Kingboyk or Lar for help.
  • Want to stay up on new project developments? Watchlist all of the WikiProject pages plus The Beatles and each of the 4 members, to get a feel for what's happening. Also monitor and regularly review Misplaced Pages:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/The Beatles articles by quality log. If an article is listed on there as "added", go check the article's history. If it's new since the Project began add it to the Project Log as a new article and up the counter by one :)

Project News
  • The Beatles article, the "Flagship" of the Project, is currently under review with regard to its Featured Article status. It is hoped that the review will identify those areas that need some(/lots of) remedial work, and that the Project participants and those editors who are involved in the the FA admin pages to can work together to "save" the status of the article.
    • At the moment there is some discussion as to why it has been listed, and what may be needed to help it retain its FA status. It may well be that some work is going to be required in formulating a plan of action, and then some more in achieving those aims.
    • The FA status is obviously quite important to the Project, and it would be appreciated if participants are able to provide assistance in keeping the article up to standard. The editors would be grateful if those persons receiving this Newsletter could spare some of their time, energy and brainpower in keeping this jewel in our crown in its proper place. Please go to Misplaced Pages:Featured article review/The Beatles and get involved! Thank you.

  • Unfortunately, the Featured Article badge on The Beatles was revoked. The article was immediately nominated for Good Article status, which it received later that same day. Project member Kingboyk said of the nomination, "I'm quite happy about it really, as I feel that GA is about where we're at and gives some incentive to work on the article."
  • We have a new category for Beatles articles needing attention. If you're looking for something to work on, the articles in this category and the subcategories need some TLC. To put an article in this category, tag its talk page with {{WPBeatles|attention=yes}}.
  • Kingboyk has given {{WPBeatles}} another major overhaul, and has assessed all of the Beatles articles. He would be grateful if other editors would leave comments on the state of articles, needed improvements and so on, by clicking the Comments link in the template. Also, feel free to revise the gradings—the assessments were done quickly, and article quality can change.
