Irish
Hughes was born in London, but spent much of his youth in Firhouse, Dublin. how long? does he have a british passport? irish? dual nationality? --Cameron Scott (talk) 17:37, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
Hughes referred to Ireland as his 'homeland' in his book 'The Grey Area' - I think it is safe to say he is Irish. Would we refer to Keifer Sutherland as British just because he too was born in London? --Skookumuk (talk) 22:37, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
Don't see the relevance of his friendship with Bill Hicks? I'm sure there are plenty of celebrities who have friendships with others, but is it relevant to their profile? Though in this case where the deceased has far greater status than the subject, perhaps such name dropping and fawning of Hicks allows Hughes the opportunity to ride on his coattails? Some compensation perhaps for a career that stalled over a decade ago. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.149.97.85 (talk) 10:54, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
Indeed! If it were such a fantastic friendship one would think it might be mentioned on Hickses' page also, which it is not. To laud Hicks as a genius and then claim close association comes across as an attempt by Hughes to nudge his way into someone elses spotlight. "If my best friend is a genius, then what does that say about me?". Though we could be doing Hughes a disservice? Perhaps he and Hicks were such great friends that Hicks left him his coattails in his will? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.151.156.210 (talk) 15:24, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Date of death
Is there a source to say Hughes died on Oct 11? Of the three sources quoted, the IB Times report contains no date and the reports from the BBC and the Guardian both say he died on Monday "this AM" (the 16th) OZOO (t) (c) 15:24, 16 October 2017 (UTC)
- Who or what has suggested the 11th? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 15:38, 16 October 2017 (UTC)
- IP 92.40.249.191 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) has been editing the article to say 11. May just be disruption, thought I'd check before reverting. OZOO (t) (c) 15:43, 16 October 2017 (UTC)
