Gaunt has worked for many ratio stations, including BBC Three Counties Radio, BBC WM, BBC London, and BBC Coventry & Warwickshire. He currently hosts a mid-morning current affairs show on talkSPORT.
After leaving BBC London he took a new position with but left after a month because of BBC editorial guidelines, which prevent its journalists working for other media (he was writing a column in The Sun newspaper), and writes a column for the The Sun
Gaunt, though seen by some as outspoken, commands a large radio audience. Among the quirks of the show, he likes his listeners to refer to him as "Gaunty" and often refers to callers as "Big Boy". Gaunt and the show received three Sony Radio Academy Awards in 2001.
Gaunt's career has seen some controversy; he has been up before the UK Broadcasting Standards Commission five times, three of those times the complaints made against him were upheld . He has also been criticised for suggesting to listeners that they come to a visit by the Deputy Prime Minister with bricks. .
