The sweet is served wrapped in thin aluminum foil, and it consists of biscuit and vanilla egg-foam on the inside and a chocolate covering. The vanilla flavor may be replaced by other less popular flavours. The word Krembo means "cream-inside". It is similar to the South American candy, Alfajor. Unbeknownst to many Israelis, the origins of the Krembo are actually in Europe, where it was manufactured in countries such as Germany and England and marketed under the politically incorrect name "Nigger", among others.
In Finland the sweet is manufactured by Brunberg Oy, http://www.brunberg.fi/ekyssar.html. The sweets name was changed in ca 1998 from "Neekerin suukko", "Negro's kiss" to "Brunbergin suukko", "Brunbergs kiss".

Unbeknownst to many outside of Israel, Krembos actually are the fruit of Krembola trees that are found mainly in the region Baja in Mexico. The Krembola trees blooming season is aroung November and therefore the Krembo fruit is only availble during the Winter. Many attempts have been made at domesticating the Krembo tree in Israel, but to no avail.
