Broadcasted

The Wiktionary definition of Broadcasted states the use is proscribed, so it should not be used. The word also appears on Misplaced Pages:Lists_of_common_misspellings/B

Broadcasted appears in some dictionaries, but others, e.g. Chambers state "Sorry, no entries for Broadcasted were found".
Broadcast appears in all dictionaries, and should be used as COMMONALITY - "Misplaced Pages tries to find words that are common to all varieties of English".

An October 2017 search for Broadcast gave over 185,000 uses, compared with a search for Broadcasted which gave just 60.
Of these 60, 15 are redirects to "Broadcast" articles, 16 refer to a Canadian TV award and 5 relate to a 1924 cartoon. The rest are quotations.

Deflategate

You're an established editor, so I'll spare you the template, but you have reverted four times by now. A self-revert would be a good idea. Favonian (talk) 21:53, 6 December 2017 (UTC)

Favonian - AFAIK, dealing with vandalism, as shown by the blocking of User:209.64.168.66, is exempt from 3RR - Arjayay (talk) 21:56, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
The IP was clearly disruptive, but not strictly speaking a vandal, and Jerry Stockton certainly isn't one. You are in imminent danger of being blocked. Favonian (talk) 21:58, 6 December 2017 (UTC)

About reverts you made

I think my edits were improvements. Could you please put your opinion on why awkward attribution is needed when the statement is accepted by all scholars as established historic incidents with no contrary narration? Their presence reduces readability and adds nothing to the article. --G (talk) 10:30, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi Gbohoadgwwian - I assume you are talking about Guru Gobind Singh?
It sometimes helps to know who is making a statement as you read it, rather than have to keep going to the references section to find out who made it. This is especially true for those statements headed "According to the Sikh tradition" - it is important that the reader can differentiate between historical fact and Sikh tradition. If you wish to re-remove the named authors, please do so, but please keep it clear what information is just based on "Sikh tradition", rather than presenting that as historical fact. - Thanks - Arjayay (talk) 10:45, 8 December 2017 (UTC)
You are right. Factual statement should be different from beliefs. But things like the year when Person A met where with whom for what reason are historic records, these are about 400 year old event recorded duly by multiple historians with no contradiction, hence there is no need to attribute them to any writer. I believe it is not necessary to qualify such information, readers do not get any more information about the article by doing this, but it may reduce the readability and flow of the text. I will review all the changes that I intended to do and filter out any if it is not a commonly acknowledged historic information. Thanks. --G (talk) 08:58, 11 December 2017 (UTC)
I think you have concern about these two statements which I modified:
  1. According to the Sikh tradition, his youngest sons, aged 5 and 8, were executed by burying them alive into a wall after they refused to convert to Islam.
  2. According to the Sikh tradition, Guru Gobind Singh saw the war conduct of Aurangzeb and his army against his family and his people as a betrayal of a promise, unethical, unjust and impious.
These two are historic information. There are no narratives in existence that contradict these. It is not subject to Sikh tradition if the sons were killed as a matter of fact and hence need not be stated like that, it only dilutes a simple historic statement. I am open to attribution if the oppressor Mughal's account is different. As far as I know these are glorified as conquests of the Muslim rulers of that time. So, the victor and the victim's record and other historic records concur on the specifics of the event. --G (talk) 09:16, 11 December 2017 (UTC)

"In use"

Urgh. It says, "To help avoid edit conflicts, please do not edit this page while this message is displayed." And -lo! yes, I just got an edit conflict. I'm grateful for your removal of a single word twice, but the error had been noted and there is NODEADLINE. Thank you! Happy Happy Friday! SerialNumber54129 17:37, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi Serial Number 54129 I opened that page directly in edit mode, with the search set for the double word, so did not even see the template until after I had saved - I could have reverted myself, but that would still have given you a conflict, Sorry, for the conflict, but at least these are easy do deal with these days, - select "my text" and save. - Arjayay (talk) 17:44, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Barnstar of Diligence
I couldn't find one that said "Overly Diligent" :p

Sorry if that was snarky, it's just that if theres someting that annoys me even more than Boris Johnson's haircut, it's edit-conflicts. Take care, SerialNumber54129 17:45, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

My edits are being reverted too much even with citations

The information I have added about Dars in ajk is being removed for no reason. The article is still incomplete and you should welcome more information instead of reverting. I am myself a Dar from ajk and we are present here . Fahad Butt (talk) 18:31, 10 December 2017 (UTC)

Fahad Butt your edit was removed because it was not sourced to a reliable source, as Misplaced Pages is NOT a reliable source. Looking at your talk page, you have had lots of warnings about making unsourced additions, including two from me, one about the same article, in May.
Please read and follow WP:V, Help:Referencing for beginners and reliable sources -or you are likely to be blocked. Please also understand that Misplaced Pages has NO interest in who you are, where you are from, or what you "know". Wkipedia is ONLY interested in what Reliable sources have already said about a subject, which needs to be cited. - Arjayay (talk) 18:42, 10 December 2017 (UTC)

A beer for you

You've got mail

sir solapur akkalkot are border ares interstate boundaries suffering from development imbalancd. i solpaur i have added the official fact in central railway time table oct 2015 it was lsited as in top 100 booking stations in India. i am rated five star for my reviews on Indian railways at mouthshut.com and my blogs.

everal articles of wikipedia are uninforfmative.
Akkalkot most important is swami samrtha temple. the region is backward let it develop and let people insist on dvelopment by reading my infofrmation.
the trunk line Mumbai-chennai is not given proper attention and many people and sources can cite.
wikipedia info on solapur is partailly correct it is on Mumbai-hyderabad lined but histrically for 150 yaers it is known as Mumbai-Chennai line.
gangapur page is mislezding as most important gangapur is in Karnataka state flocked by people. we are from the region .we know better than somebody frfom miles away place.
no vadalism but trying to guide people constructively . most imp trains at akkalkot are udyan exp and chennai mail rest are local passenger trains .

there was newspaoper article on neglect of this place. people at one stroke should know how to visit the pace from Mumbai . is transport avilable from station. tp 100 booking stations iss an achievement for backward region like silapur not trivia . if i know it having read timetable i should give it so that development imbalance is rectifided. noble intentions. of guiding people accurately. no business or profit! i respect you

Hi Anilped - I have replied on your talk page, please keep the conversation there - thanks - Arjayay (talk) 18:22, 17 December 2017 (UTC)

Section moved from middle of page

sir i fully beleive in not having timetable. but the raticle carried trivia timetable right from begining not needed . what people need is the most important trains udyan express and chennail mail rather than local passenger trains which are lsuisted. sso what u said is in contradiction . i want to avoid timetables. timetables are listed there by somebody elser.

top 100 booking station is not trivia. views differ. many people are interested in knowing . the city will devlop . poor will benefit.
BTW Akkalkot is visited by discoples from America africa, all across world. they need to know that there is trabnsport available from station. they may be misguidded by alighting at siolapur 40 kms awat and may be cheated by transport operators. contrary to what you have said timetables existed before my editing . unnecessary yes .
but will be nice if local regional people decide what type of content they want . Many sent me emails sayimg grat wrok . u gave info in two lines about which trains from international city

Mumbai bangalore will take them at akkalkot overnight. they were surprisedd at poor treatmentof the trunk line. they thanked me. they would like to help development .still after this point i will respect and not add external links frfom today onwards. it is ot english but lack of time . i do lot of scientific research find less time i respect you a lot — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anilped (talkcontribs) 18:36, 17 December 2017 (UTC)

Thanks Iggy - I also got Florante at Laura semi-protected for 6 months
I suspect the vandalism will resurface somewhere else, so have bookmarked an article search for Lorem ipsum - Arjayay (talk) 17:30, 18 December 2017 (UTC)

I recently sent you an invitation to join NPP, but you also might be the right candidate for another related project, AfC, which is also extremely backlogged.
Would you please consider becoming an Articles for Creation reviewer? Articles for Creation reviewers help new users learn the ropes of creating their first articles, and identify whether topics are suitable for inclusion in Misplaced Pages. Reviewing drafts doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Misplaced Pages inclusion policies and guidelines; currently Misplaced Pages needs experienced users at this task. (After requesting to be added to the project, reviewing is not mandatory. One can do it at their convenience). But kindly read the reviewing instructions before making your decision. The past tense of "broadcast"

Hello

Until a couple of days ago, I thought "broadcast" is an irregular verb like "cast". All of this changed four days ago, when someone changed "broadcast" into "broadcasted" in the Microsoft Solitaire article.

In your argument at the top of this page, you've written: Broadcasted appears in some dictionaries, but others, e.g. Chambers state "Sorry, no entries for Broadcasted were found". Well, "some dictionaries" contains a weasel word, thus, hiding the fact the most reputable English dictionaries list "broadcasted" as valid:

Now, the online Oxford English Dictionary does not provide past tenses and past participles, but it does recognize "broadcasted" without returning an error: .

As for the rest of your argument, I don't put any weight on a search engine test that cannot distinguish between the present tense and past tense, especially when Misplaced Pages written in present tense.

Please pay attention that upon deciding to revert, all that an editor sees is your edit summary, unless you provide a link to your argument in the edit summary.

Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 07:36, 30 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi Codename Lisa Thanks for your detailed post.
This was discussed at length in August 2014 here, when it was agreed by all parties that it should not be labelled a misspelling - and I have not labelled it a misspelling since. Re-reading that discussion, I note that I have, over time, shortened the edit summary from "Broadcasted > Broadcast as WP:COMMONALITY" to just "Broadcasted > Broadcast".
My principal point is that its use is proscribed, so it should not be used - I don't like Misplaced Pages sounding (to my ear) semi-literate. Having rechecked the discussion and my note above, I see that the Wiktionary definition was changed from (proscribed) to (sometimes proscribed) on 24 April 2017, without any discussion.
Please also see the associated RVF discussion here which lists some places where the use is described as proscribed, and several polls of "Language writers and editors" giving preferences for broadcast, over broadcasted, of 34:1, 25:1 and 105:2.
As for the edit summary - 150,018 of my live edits have an edit summary (39 early edits do not), but long edit summaries slow down the editing process. AFAIK you are the first to have raised this in the 3 years 4 months since the misspellings discussion closed - although others may have come here and read the note at the top of the page.
I am not labelling it a misspelling, or hiding behind a C/E summary, but am stating very clearly what the change is, and will continue to do so. - Arjayay (talk) 17:48, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
Hello again.
Thanks for clearing that up. Like I said, I've been using "broadcast" as the past tense my whole life. So, I don't want to dispute your or anything. But if I were to give your any advice, I'd say from now on, you need more convincing edit summaries. (Psst! Nobody will have anything against you if you used "Clippings" or similar browser extensions to streamline the process of repeatedly writing long but useful edit summaries.) The irony is that the victims of incorrect reversion here are those who go the extra miles of being sure before reverting.
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 19:12, 30 December 2017 (UTC)

SELVAG100 - I'm not clear what you are trying to say, but the proposal you made for a change at Talk:Munnar was unacceptable, and is an example of why that page remains semi-protected. - Arjayay (talk) 19:10, 30 December 2017 (UTC)

Castle vs. Chateau

I'm an owner of the Skvorec Castle and we traditionally use csstle for this property. Someone always changes the name from Castle to Chateau. We are not in France and the castle not a villa or wineyard mansion. Can you help somehow? Thank you Dmitryeremeev (talk) 11:31, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Chateau

Can you explain, pleade. why did you remove this: Name "Chateau Skvorec" invented a few years ago by an anonymous Slovak immigrant who considered himself as a "powers that be" on Misplaced Pages. Many others, including owners are strongly disagree with "chateau" and still use traditional english name Savoia or Skvorec Castle. Dmitryeremeev (talk) 11:57, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

@Dmitryeremeev: Probably because Misplaced Pages is an encyclopedia, not a soapbox for privately held opinions. Kleuske (talk) 12:00, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
Dmitryeremeev
Firstly do NOT attack other editors, and do NOT include your complaint in the article itself - I have deleted that.
Secondly, as you say you are "an owner" you have a conflict of interest, so should NOT be editing the article. Please read and follow WP:COI
Thirdly, I see from Talk:Škvorec Chateau that a proposed name change was refused as recently as 28 October 2017. You could try another request, and provide detailed evidence of your case, but a request so soon after the last refusal, is likely to be refused.
As I do not read Czech, I will avoid getting involved - I only went to the article to correct your misspellings. - Arjayay (talk) 12:03, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Zamek - Castle

Thebfact is that all Czech-English dictionaries translates Zamek as the Castle and never Chateau!!! Dmitryeremeev (talk) 12:14, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Dmitryeremeev - as I said "As I do not read Czech, I will avoid getting involved" - Arjayay (talk) 12:40, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Another issue: iaroslavvs uses chauvinisme - russian-italian immigrants instead of family, it sounds as rude chauvinism, Dmitryeremeev (talk) 07:32, 5 January 2018 (UTC)
