Founded in 1878, Western delivers ‘The Western Experience’, an exemplary learning experience that engages the best and brightest people challenging them to meet ever-higher standards in the classroom and beyond.

The Faculty of Education provides high-quality academic and practical studies in education. The institution offers many opportunities for professional growth and its programs emphasize developing the knowledge, skills, qualities, and habits of mind that define professional teachers and leaders in education.

The Faculty of Education offers undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as several professional development programs. The undergraduate Teacher Education program is an Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) accredited program and is a two year, second degree entry program (requiring students to first obtain a Bachelor degree). The Faculty of Education's graduate programs are divided between a Research Intensive stream (MA and PhD) and a Professional Programs stream (MPED and EdD). All programs are highly competitive.

The Faculty of Education is home to world-class research centres and resources such as the Centre for Research and Education on Violence Against Women and Children, the Centre for School Mental Health, the Interdisciplinary Centre for Research in Curriculum as a Social Practice, the Canadian Research Centre on Inclusive Education, and the Mary J. Wright Research and Education Centre at Merrymount.

Faculty members at the Faculty of Education are grouped into three Academic Research Clusters (departments): Applied Psychology (AP); Critical Policy, Equity, and Leadership Studies (CPELS); and Curriculum Studies and Studies in Applied Linguistics (CSSAL).
