If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."

If you are here because you want an admin to approve of your new article or your proposed page move, you are in the wrong place.
  • If this is your first article and you want your draft article moved to the mainspace, please submit it for review at Articles for creation, by adding the code {{subst:submit}} to the top of the draft or user sandbox page instead of listing it here.
  • Because you are autoconfirmed, you can move most pages yourself. Do not request technical assistance on this page if you can do it yourself.
  • If you need help determining whether it's okay to move the page to a different title, then please follow the instructions at the top of Misplaced Pages:Requested moves.
  • To list a technical request: edit the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
    {{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}

This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
  • If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
  • If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

Requests to revert undiscussed moves

User:Gryffindor 's moves
Extended content
*@Dekimasu: Here is a list of User:Gryffindor 's edits including page moves (but not deleted pages). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 20:26, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
As per Gryffindor's talk page, this kind of belief that "House of" is always always wrong would be perfectly fine if he simply filed Requested Moves. Instead he uses the move -> make a nonsense edit on the original title technical trick to make it impossible to revert him and refuses to discuss his moves ever. He also quick-moves the related categories in Wikimedia Commons. Why he uses such tactics I can't begin to explain, but it manages to make what should be a boring titling dispute infuriating via flagrant gaming the system and refusing to explain his actions, and forcing the defenders of the status quo to be the ones to file Requested Moves. Ideally all these moves should be reverted and let Gryffindor file cogent RMs with a case-by-case justification for each move. SnowFire (talk) 20:42, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
I hadn't read the whole talk page of Gryffindor and didn't realize this was a perennial issue. (I did protect Shogi from further undiscussed moves after an edit war, as linked on the talk page, but that doesn't mean much when one of the editors is an administrator.) It's clear Gryffindor has been advised in the past to file move requests for these sorts of pages, and has been warned by other admins against altering redirects to prevent reversions. It looks like everyone has been quite forgiving considering how long this has gone on, and I wouldn't blame anyone for escalating this complaint. Dekimasuよ! 21:33, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
Being as charitable as possible, there are previous ANI discussions of Gryffindor’s unilateral moves from at least 2007, 2010, and 2012. See Misplaced Pages:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive254#Gryffindor out of control (sorry for the section name), Misplaced Pages:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive648#Unilateral page moving against consensus, and Misplaced Pages:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive771#A possible problem with undiscussed moves. There are others I’ve chosen not to include here. Given those discussions and the talk page, it’s clear that Gryffindor knows these moves are out of process and has a long-term tendency to proceed anyway. I wonder if others from Gryffindor's recent talk page sections have received sufficient explanations to allay their concerns. Pinging User:PBS, User:Galobtter, User:Bermicourt. I see User:SnowFire is here already. Dekimasuよ! 21:53, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
Nay, hasn't responded at all to the message I left on his talk page; also spoke to him on Talk:Shogi; pretty annoyed about that, and seems rather contrary to admin conduct or honestly even basic editor standards (the same could be said for the original act of move-warring..). I suppose I'd go to AN/ANI (maybe shifting this thread), which seems a more appropriate place to discuss this than RMTR, first - maybe a topic ban from moving pages? Galobtter (pingó mió) 02:25, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
I have gone ahead and brought this to WP:ANI as suggested, although I like to stay away from there as much as possible. Dekimasuよ! 08:39, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
I wanted to go back and see if I had interacted with Gryffindor on such things in the past. It seems like the closest we came to discussing this was in 2014, when there was discussion on how to disambiguate some Japanese prefectures. Dekimasuよ! 22:04, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
I have reverted another of these that was blocked by an empty edit, as requested at Talk:House of Schwarzenberg. Dekimasuよ! 07:28, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
