The Man Beast is a fictional character that exists in the Marvel Universe.

Fictional character biography

The Man Beast was once an ordinary wolf, and was captured and mutated by the High Evolutionary - a being intent on creating an army of New Men from animals. While the wolf was being mutated by "Isotope C", the High Evolutionary was attacked by Thor, who was seeking his love, Jane Foster. The delay was costly, as the wolf was overexposed to the isotope and pushed to physical and mental perfection. Unfortunately, the process also instilled the creature with an utter hatred of all other forms of life. The High Evolutionary called his creation a "Super Beast". The creature promptly escaped, and using the High Evolutionary's equipment created a hideous army of followers that attacked its creator's own New Men. The Super Beast was finally stopped by Thor, with the High Evolutionary then placing the unconscious Super Beast and his defeated army in a rocket. The rocket was then launched into deep space, in the hope that the Super Beast would never be seen again.

Hate personified

Unfortunately the creature - now calling itself the Man Beast - landed with its' army on Counter-Earth, a planet located on the other side of the Sun. Ironically, Counter- Earth had also created by the High Evolutionary. They began to corrupt Counter-Earth until the High Evolutionary sent Adam Warlock, who after a long and protracted war defeated the Man Beast and his followers. The Hulk was also present on Counter-Earth at one point and aided Adam Warlock in defeating the Man Beast. The Man Beast escaped Counter-Earth and eventually found his way to the truth Earth, where disguised as the Hate-Monger he battled Spider-Man. Caught in an explosion and buried under tons of debris, the Man Beast nearly died and took many years to regenerate. He eventually re-emerged and allied himself with the Bi-Beast, and came into conflict with Thor once more, this time aided by Avengers teammate Iron Man. Foiled again, the Man Beast recovered and discovered the existence of the Infinity Gems; managing to steal four of the gems from his old foe, Adam Warlock. Warlock eventually stopped the Man Beast and was only prevented from killing him by Captain America.

Defeated

The menace of the Man Beast was finally ended when the High Evolutionary, with the aid of Quicksilver, reverted the creature back into a wolf, which escaped into the wilderness.

Powers and Abilities

The Man Beast was a physically and mentally perfect synthesis of man and wolf. The creature had superior senses; strength on par with Spider-Man; incredible speed; durability and fighting skills. Courtesy of his own genius and unlimited hatred, the Man Beast was also capable of projecting beams of force and erecting force fields strong enough to repel Thor's hammer, Mjolnir. The Man Beast also carried with him a personal teleportation device, and often had other technological aids nearby.
