Kruševo Macedonian: Крушево; is a town in Republic of Macedonia. Situated at an altitude of 1330 meters (about 4000 ft) above the sea level, Krushevo is the highest town not only in the Republic of Macedonia, but also in the Balkans. Krushevo is laid on Bushava Mountain, about 30 km away from Prilep.t is a well-known winter ski center and a climatic health resort. Its old architecture, many hotels, and all conditions necessary for pleasant winter holidays, make Krushevo an ideal place for relaxation.

The visitor will not be wrong if he describes Krushevo as a museum of old architecture. The town is full of old and more recent houses built in the stile of old Macedonian architecture leaving the town with virtually no apartment blocks. Each year on Ilinden (St. Elijah's day) the town wears a festive look: on the balconies and at the windows of all the houses shaggy hand-woven blankets (yambolias) in all kinds of colors are exhibited. Krushevo proudly preserves the memory of the renowned Ilinden Uprising of the Macedonian people, when on August 2, St. Elijah's Day, 1903, the Macedonians liberated the city from the 500-year Turkish rule.

The first republic on the Balkans known as "Krushevo Republic" was established, but it lasted only ten days. The Turkish army returned, suppressed the rebellion in blood, and burned Krushevo to the ground. A few kilometers away from the town is the historical site of "Mechkin Kamen" (Bear's Stone) where the whole band and their leader Pitu Guli perished in trying to defend the town from the Turkish troops coming from Bitola.

Today, there is a monument in honor of the fallen Macedonian heroes who gave their lives for free Macedonia. There is also a Museum of the Ilinden Uprising, where is the sarcophagi of Nikola Karev, the president of the Krushevo Republic. Along with the many churches in the town there is also a gallery of 19th century icons, and a memorial gallery to the master of modern Macedonian painting, Nikola Martinoski who was born in this town.
