Reducing Film Posters

You do realize that, when images are tagged with {{non-free reduce}}, it puts it in a category which enables a bot to reduce the size automatically, right? There is not really a reason for you to go in and upload smaller versions of film posters yourself. Elisfkc (talk) 20:53, 12 March 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for your concern but I've been doing this for years and I'm better than the bot. Also, there's a bot that creates the non-free reduce templates automatically. — Film Fan 23:31, 12 March 2017 (UTC)

Hello Film Fan. I noticed you 'undid' an edit I had made on The Mummy (2017) article. Though you state this, all you did was upload the same picture. What was the reason/purpose behind this? It was already done.--DisneyMetalhead (talk) 00:35, 7 April 2017 (UTC)

Image without license

Unspecified source/license for File:The Fate of The Furious Theatrical Poster.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:The Fate of The Furious Theatrical Poster.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Misplaced Pages's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Misplaced Pages can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Misplaced Pages:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot 16:45, 1 May 2017 (UTC)

PNG vs. JPEG

Serious non-snarky question: what's the significance of uploading a non-free image as PNG format over JPEG? Bluesphere 12:45, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Better color retention. — Film Fan 12:52, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

File:Dunkirk Film poster.jpg

Thanks for reducing the image - just to let you know that a manual reduction for most images (all bitmaps except gif) is not necessary as DatBot6 will reduce it to just under 100,000 pixels (in this case, that would have been 259x384) within 24 hours. Ronhjones  20:25, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

I'm aware. And 220px is better than 259px. And I use a better program than the bot. — Film Fan 20:48, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

Hi Film Fan, since you upload some posters for film festivals, I'd like to let you know I've been renaming some files to normalize the naming scheme for each festival. Your Name poster: Japanese or English poster?

I'm pretty sure we usually use the Japanese theatrical poster over English one for Japanese films. That's why I replaced the British poster with the original Japanese poster as per WP:FILMPOSTER. Unless there's some other reason that why we can't use the poster I uploaded, it be much appreciated to tell me the reason than just reverting the image back to the poster you uploaded, just because you prefer it. Use the talk page related to the film or the talk page related to the image. And if you want to replace an image, replace in the same namespace, don't upload an entirely new file. — Film Fan 10:12, 5 September 2017 (UTC)

Club de Cuervos

In the parameter "show_name_2" only the title of the program is placed, the template already has as default the use of the italic letters.--Philip J Fry :  Talk  20:28, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

Who says only the title is placed there?! — Film Fan 20:30, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
If you have taken the trouble to see the instructions of the template ?.--Philip J Fry :  Talk  20:31, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
Yes... I have... but you clearly haven't or you wouldn't be reverting me... — Film Fan 20:34, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
And you're being ridiculously nationalist. Obviously as a Spaniard you prefer the Spanish title, but don't try to diminish the English title on English Misplaced Pages. — Film Fan 20:40, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
I really do not understand what your problem is, I think the title of the series in English is clear in the introduction of the article. So, why do you want to use bold letters in the infobox ?, when you obviously generate an error in the template?.--Philip J Fry :  Talk  20:41, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
Both titles should be in bold. No problems are being created in the template. What are you talking about?? — Film Fan 20:43, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
Daaah, I will not argue with you. Do what seems best to you.--Philip J Fry :  Talk  20:45, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

File:Justice League film poster.jpg

I know we have our differences of opinion, on what is the preferred resolution for infoboxes images. But there is absolutely no reason to change a perfectly acceptable image per WP:IMAGERES just so you can have your preferred version. Likewise, I will not do the same.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 09:00, 26 October 2017 (UTC)

So you're aware that images larger than the infobox size have to be resized by wikipedia, resulting in a lower quality image on the article page? — Film Fan 13:05, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
So you say. I happen to think the displayed quality is fine and prefer a slightly higher resolution in the filespace but that's not the point. The point is the resolution is acceptable per Misplaced Pages guidelines and WP:IDONTLIKEIT is not an acceptable argument to change it.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 13:22, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
It is the point, because I should be able to sway you to use logic. — Film Fan 13:30, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
Same here, we've had this argument before and do not wish to rehash it now. So unless the image does not comply with guidelines, which states "Content on Misplaced Pages is judged based on its compliance with guidelines, not its physical appearance," there no need to change it. I'm done.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 13:45, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
Except there is actual logic and facts to support to my argument. — Film Fan 13:47, 26 October 2017 (UTC)

Discussion about the latest revision on Mom and Dad (2017 film) page

I undid your latest revision on the Mom and Dad (2017 film) wiki page. I have already added the theatrical poster and when you reverted my edit, you never explained the reasons for doing so. Elainasla (talk) 11:53, 08 January 2018 (UTC)

The reason is you're supposed to use the original namespace. Was there a reason you created a new file page instead of uploading over the existing image, Elainasla? — Film Fan 11:59, 8 January 2018 (UTC)

Unfortunately, I did not know that information at the time, but I do now. Thanks for providing the reason, on why you reverted my edit earlier. Would you be able to make those changes on the Mom and Dad (2017 film) wiki page? If you can, that would be much appreciated. Thanks. Elainasla (talk) 12:02, 08 January 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:The Irishman (2018 film).png

A tag has been placed on File:The Irishman (2018 film).png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done for the following reason:

This is a fake image found on the internet; no official poster has yet been released for this film.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Stop replacing posters with versions under 250px - The threshold for nonfree images here is around 300px, Images should be small but they should also be readable please bear this in mind. –Davey2010 16:16, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
Umm, no. That's not right. Please read WP:IMAGERES, Davey2010. — Film Fan 16:28, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
Umm, Yes it is so kindly stop. –Davey2010 16:29, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
Your uploads do not comply with WP:IMAGERES, Davey2010, and there is no guideline anywhere suggesting that images should be enlarged to make the text legible. Kindly follow the rules for non-free content. Cheers. — Film Fan 16:34, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
Which states "There is no firm guideline on allowable resolutions for non-free content; images should be rescaled as small as possible" - 300 is small enough, if you make images any smaller you're making them useless, Text should more or less be readable or atleast you should be able to make out what it says, As I said 300 is fine and is the threshold for all images here, Thanks, –Davey2010 16:41, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
Nope. 300px is not fine if the pixel count is shooting way above 100,000. You can't make up your own rules. On top of the imageres guideline, please see this. And Ronhjones, any particular reason for the "no reduce" template on File:Ghostbusters (1984) theatrical poster.png and File:Alien3 poster.jpg? Cheers. — Film Fan 16:48, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
@Film Fan: None - At the time, I was going through lots of files and did not have the time to start yet another set of FFD (like Misplaced Pages:Files_for_discussion/2017_December_29#File:GE_-_Good_Ending_v1_cover.jpg), and that was the only way to stop me making an edit war. Feel free to start one. I would also add for other readers that the 300px threshold for NF images was superseded in 2011. Ronhjones  18:58, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. I think that's about all you need to know, Davey2010. — Film Fan 20:21, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
I'm not making any rule up - It clearly states "There is no firm guideline on allowable resolutions for non-free content; images should be rescaled as small as possible" .... and from my observation the common threshold here is 300 or so which is what I've stuck with for the last 5 years, Also thanks to your useless ping I've now lost 30 minutes of work so thanks for that!, Kindly stop pinging me I have nothing else to say. –Davey2010 20:34, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
Putting your foot down when you're wrong doesn't work. I've shown you the relevant guideline and brought in a third voice, and clearly "images should be rescaled as small as possible" works in my favour. There is nothing to suggest text has to be legible, Davey2010, and you haven't even suggested why it should be. The common threshold is not the same now as over half a decade ago. Your observations are way outdated. If you're done with this conversation, it hasn't ended in your favour. Have a good day. — Film Fan 21:18, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
Which part of "Kindly stop pinging me" did you not understand ?, As I have said IMAGERES states "There is no firm guideline on allowable resolutions for non-free content; images should be rescaled as small as possible" and as I have said the common threshold for images here is 300 which is small enough.... you disagree and that's fine, Now kindly stop pinging I have better things to do with my time like improving the encyclopedia which is what you should be doing. Cheerio. –Davey2010 21:28, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
It is not a matter of opinion, Davey2010. That was the common threshold in the NOUGHTIES. The rules have changed. Better luck next time. — Film Fan 21:47, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
Nope, It's the common threshold and consensus proves that (unless you're saying we all live in the 00s still), Point is 300 is fine but I'll let you have the WP:LASTWORD, Goodbye. –Davey2010 21:57, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
Consensus proves the opposite, Davey2010. Plus I have the backing of another user, and the relevant guideline, and you haven't even said why you think the text should be more legible. You may be steadfast, but you're outnumbered and wrong. — Film Fan 22:42, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

Could you upload a better one for this article? The quality is for shit as it stands. Plus, I'm not sure if that's the authentic design as posters tend to have different styles. Slightlymad 08:32, 25 February 2018 (UTC)

Can you please upload the poster for Ethel & Ernest onto my article? I would really appreciate it. Superchunk22 (talk) 05:31, 2 March 2018 (UTC)

Move reverted.

I have reverted your move of The Defiant Ones. Per WP:RM, a page with incoming links should not be moved to create a disambiguation page without discussion and consensus; also, per WP:TWODABS, it is best not to create disambiguation pages with only two links. bd2412 T 13:24, 12 March 2018 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Arctic.png

Thank you for uploading File:Arctic.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Misplaced Pages may not meet the criteria required by Misplaced Pages:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Misplaced Pages:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

ATTENTION: This is an automated, bot-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 03:00, 27 April 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Strange Angel.png

A tag has been placed on File:Strange Angel.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Misplaced Pages having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.

Resizing program

Hi. I was wondering, what program do you use to resize images while retaining quality (especially for JPG files)? Thanks. snapsnap 20:10, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

Don't bother with JPG. I have an expensive program, but picresize.com is good for resizing to PNG. Just set to width to 220 pixels and you're done. Sometimes you need to download the original file because the URL feature doesn't always work, but it's quick and simple. But if you need to resize to JPG, I recommend resizing to PNG first, and then converting the PNG to JPG using the highest quality option on the same website. — Film Fan 23:33, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

Rafiki

Hi, I hope you are well. Regarding Rafiki, I just changed the quote and italicized it. Is anything wrong about it?

Cheers Nyanchoka : talk 2 me 23:44, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi there. If you have any questions about my edit summary, please let me know. — Film Fan 23:50, 25 May 2018 (UTC)
I just thought it would be better if it was italicized. But I did not really understand the urgency to have it quoted instead. But you reverted my edit anyway. Kindly explain that to me. Nyanchoka : talk 2 me 11:27, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
Only actual titles should be italicized. "Friend" is not a title but a translation of the title, and thus is in quotes. — Film Fan 13:23, 26 May 2018 (UTC)

Pitch Perfect 2

I'm concerned that is not the Theatrical release poster despite being labelled as such in the article Infobox for Pitch Perfect 2. It doesn't contain a billing block, and may only be a teaser poster. Your upload page doesn't specify and I think out of habit someone may have assumed it was the final Theatrical release poster. I think the actual Theatrical release poster might be this poster and as someone who clearly understands how all this is supposed to work I'm hoping you help fix it. Please comment on the article talk page Talk:Pitch_Perfect_2. Thanks for your time. -- 109.79.102.79 (talk) 20:11, 29 May 2018 (UTC)
