I agree that the username was meant to be offensive and inflammatory. While assuming good faith is an asset, I do not believe that particular username was chosen with good intentions. -→Buchanan-Hermit™/?! 02:26, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

If it was a vandalism account, then the block log should state that's the reason for blocking. I'm not trying to start a big long discussion, but if somone signed up with the name "Hail Bush", I don't think he'd be indef'd.--KojiDude 02:32, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Agreed. Although in that case the word "hail" has something to do with it (never mind the mispellings). Hitler, Stalin, Jack the Ripper are such obviously disruptive names that they can be blocked as username issues on sight regardless of whether there is a POV to this or not. I have no issue making "biased" blocks based on what is common among Western culture. If this were another language encyclopedia, what the relevant names might be might change but there is no fundamental issue with having "biased" username rules. Userspace is not subject to NPOV among other issues. JoshuaZ 02:41, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Tawkerbot2 clones vs. Mathbot

The TB2 clones seem to have been reverting Mathbot quite a lot; check the history of User talk:Mathbot. Is it possible for User:Mathbot to be whitelisted across all TB2-style bots? --ais523 12:48, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Mostly it's User:AntiVandalBot, but User:Tawkerbot2 has been involved as well. They're not reverting every change of Mathbot, just a few. --ais523 16:59, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Nathan Rosenberg deletion

Can you clarify the situation regarding the summary disappearance of the Nathan Rosenberg article?

The deletion log ] indicates that you deleted it at 20:23 last night, but your contribs list shows no corresponding entry.

Speedy delete A7 - notability not established... someone on IRC asked me if I thought it was notable and looking at the article... well, I think you have my answer. We often delete stuff w/o editing the page, it saves on disk space just a tad - any deleted edits are gone from contribs lists anyways - now for me to find some caffeine -- Tawker 14:10, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

AOL reverter vandal

For the past couple days, I've been dealing with a rather annoying gent from AOL (there's a couple wide-spaced IP ranges, but sadly they're all cache proxies) who goes around reverting User:Hu12's contributions with the edit summary "REVERT HU12 SPAM IT WILL NOT STOP UNTILL YOU DO". Now, I don't know the capabilities of the various bots, so I can't tell if AVB or TB2 can watch for this sort of thing, of it possibly I should ask VoA to deal with it with his, but I'd really appreciate it if you got back with me. Benton Academy

Why was this deleted???

I did not have time to add the hangon tag to this page after it was marked. I had made links from the Benton, Mississippi page (the reference was there, I just added link capability. I was also referenced under [[List of high schools in Mississippi ]]. Again I just added the link ability. I seem to remember two links being a qualifying parameter. I also have about 200 words of text to be added. There are several additional schools in the same catagory listed on Misplaced Pages indluding Trinity Episcopal Day School, Southaven High School, Jim Hill High School and several others.

How AntiVandalBot recognizes vandalism

Hello. I've been using Misplaced Pages for some time now and I've noticed a lot of difference bots in my time but I was wondering how AVB can tell the difference between regular edits and blatant vandalism. I have no idea how bots function and have no intention of creating a bot in the future, but I'm just curious how he can tell the difference betwen the two. Thanks.

I did not program the bots, but have been watching and interacting with them for quite a while. I was also given a summary of the then-list of criteria quite a few months back. Basically the bot(s) watch all edits, and parse every one through a set of checks. If the bot matches any of the current criteria, and does not meet any of a number of white-listing criteria, then it is considered a vandalism, and is handled as such. Amoung the white-listing is a list of all admins. The bots are not supposed to revert admins in general. As for the vandalism criteria, I'd rather not say. In general we do not want the information publically out there. But I will give one common example. Page blanking. Blank out a page, and the bot is very likely to flag the edit as vandalism. In general, watch the things that the bot reverts. Each revert triggered at least one vandalism criteria. So look at a revert, at what was done and what was reverted, and think about what it is about that specific edit that the bot could have triggered on. - TexasAndroid 14:17, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Pretty much, it's now a bot, we moved it to the toolserver and it speeds up things a fair bit. Right now it checks (or is supposed to) all IP edits, all "new" account edits and thats about it. Pretty much it's blatantly obvious things (etc) that get the vandalism, there are a few other things which I don't really want to tip off the vandals in a public channel. How are you able to test AVB? I thought that it finds vandalism in a semi-random manner since it can't check every single article at once. Anyway the only reason I caught it fast was because I was repeatedly checking my watchlist back then. Gdo01 19:28, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
