The word and name Dick has multiple meanings. While Dick is a time-honoured contraction of the given name Richard, it is also an euphemism and vulgarism for the penis, and in modern times, it is frequently used as an insult or curse word or to refer to an unpleasant, rude, or antisocial person (usually make, but can be anyone). A number of the bearers of this name are populary known as "Dick" rather than "Richard", see articles starting with "Dick". Also, some people are actually called and named Dick, as opposed to Richard.
