2005 is currently feeling discouraged about Misplaced Pages and is taking an off-and-on wikibreak due to loss of motivation.

Your help in cheering this user up would be appreciated.

They will return when their wikistress has dissipated and their confidence in the wikicommunity has been restored.

Global account

Hi 2005! As a Steward I'm involved in the upcoming unification of all accounts organized by the Wikimedia Foundation (see m:Single User Login finalisation announcement). By looking at your account, I realized that you don't have a global account yet. In order to secure your name, I recommend you to create such account on your own by submitting your password on Special:MergeAccount and unifying your local accounts. If you have any problems with doing that or further questions, please don't hesitate to ping me with {{ping|DerHexer}}. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 16:42, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Allen Kessler

Greetings. I have not been active in quite some time on Misplaced Pages but noticed today that an article was created this week for Allen Kessler. Currently he still has no bracelets, no WPT wins, no 7 figure scores. He has won WSOPC rings. Being a tour grinder, he does have a boatload of cashes and over 3 million in prize earnings. The question is, is he done enough yet to be notable? -Pparazorback (talk) 04:32, 31 May 2016 (UTC)

In terms of victories he wouldn't be, but every BIO article has the inclusion criteria of simply having coverage in independent sources, and there are several articles where he is the focus. So, he is a personality that publications find interesting or quirky enough to cover... essentially he may be a "celebrity" who may not merit celebrity, but there are tons of articles about people like that in the encyclopedia. In general I favor having stuff over not having stuff, but I don't have a strong opinion about him having an article or not. 2005 (talk) 05:50, 31 May 2016 (UTC)
Not opposed to the existence of the article. Just didn't know how strict the project was on inclusion criteria as the way it is spelled out, he would not be notable. I used to be a fairly active editor years ago with over 5000 edits mostly dealing with WP:HOCKEY and remember the tons of AFD discussions there. Thanks -Pparazorback (talk) 07:05, 31 May 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom 2017 election voter message

Hello, 2005. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Paid Editing

Good day! I doubt this is correct, but while messing about with a rep from a company who paid edits without disclosure, they claimed that in 2005 you created PokerStars while under their employ. Were you aware of this claim of theirs? Thank you, Vermont (talk) 21:45, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

I was not aware, it's not true (tell them my price is $1,000,000 an article so send it along any time), and I've been accused of working for at least a dozen of these companies whenever I remove some spammy or attack junk from these articles. 2005 (talk) 00:56, 19 June 2018 (UTC)

Got a quick question for you. Plus cheer on up, can't be as bad as all that.

Or maybe it is, how would I know I guess. Sorry guess that's not that cheerful.

Anyway I wanted to ask, I guess what your reasoning is on something, so I can understand when I'm thinking of removing a link. Awhile back I removed a link to the definition of "anecdotal evidence" from the following sentence, and you reverted it back to the original.

"However, despite anecdotal evidence to support such claims, others argue that the rake is sufficiently large that such abuses would be unnecessary and foolish."

The reason I did is that with that type of sentence I tend to click on the link assuming it is leading to an article or section of an article that will list examples or expound on what the anecdotal evidence in that situation actually is. And then find it frustrating that the link only leads to an explanation of the term itself. In another situation in a sentence that doesn't have the implication that the link leads to examples, I would completely agree that the link belongs.

Also in my view anyone with English as their first language over the age of say 12 (kinda feel I'm being generous with that age too) should know what anecdotal evidence is. If not they either need better teachers, or spend more time reading books. Plus it's fairly simple to get the definition in any number of other ways if necessary.

Anyway if it's the general practice to have links in those situations, I will swallow my annoyance in the future at feeling misled as to the nature of the information on the other end of links of that type (I know it's not deliberate), hit the back button on my browser to get back to the article I'm reading and avoid removing the link.

After all it is why I asked if I was doing the correct thing.

Anyway good luck with your malaise, and I hope you get to feeling better about all things Misplaced Pages, or at least most things. By the way, if that was your article it is a good one. Lot of times I am simply wandering on Misplaced Pages, but that article is one I genuinely needed information from.
