This dog was bred for both dog fighting and ratting.
History
The Irish Staffordshire Bull Terrier is it's own breed with it's own history. The breed is not well known outside of Ireland and parts of England. This breed is unrecognized by any kennel clubs, yet they remain popular and have good breeding. The American Pit Bull Terrier was bred from the Irish Staffordshire Bull Terrier and the English Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
Anatomy
There is no weight restriction for the Irish Staffordshire Bull Terrier; however, they are not heavy dogs. For example, one may look like an English Staffordshire Bull Terrier and another like a Pit bull.
