Welcome to Misplaced Pages and WikiProject Medicine

Welcome to Misplaced Pages from WikiProject Medicine (also known as WPMED).

We're a group of editors who strive to improve the quality of medical articles here on Misplaced Pages. One of our members has noticed that you are interested in editing medical articles; it's great to have a new interested editor on board. In your wiki-voyages, a few things that may be relevant to editing Misplaced Pages articles are:

  • Thanks for coming aboard! We always appreciate a new editor. Feel free to leave us a message at any time on our talk page. If you are interested in joining the project yourself, there is a participant list where you can sign up. Please leave a message on the WPMED talk page if you have any problems, suggestions, would like review of an article, need suggestions for articles to edit, or would like some collaboration when editing!
  • Sourcing of medical and health-related content on Misplaced Pages is guided by our medical sourcing guidelines, commonly referred to as MEDRS. These guidelines typically require recent secondary sources to support information; their application is further explained here. Primary sources (case studies, case reports, research studies) are rarely used, especially if the primary sources are produced by the organisation or individual who is promoting a claim.
  • The Misplaced Pages community includes a wide variety of editors with different interests, skills, and knowledge. We all manage to get along through a lot of discussion that happens under the scenes and through the bold, revert, discuss editing cycle. If you encounter any problems, you can discuss them on an article's talk page or post a message on the WPMED talk page.

Feel free to drop a note on my talk page if you have any problems. I wish you all the best on your wiki voyages! Zefr (talk) 03:02, 8 November 2018 (UTC)

Welcome!

Hello, Kseses14, and welcome to Misplaced Pages! My name is Ian and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Misplaced Pages's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Misplaced Pages editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

Information icon Please refrain from changing genres, as you did to Intermittent fasting, without providing a source or establishing a consensus on the article's talk page first. Genre changes to suit your own point of view are considered disruptive. Hello -- your work is admirable, but the topic of fasting is a medical topic requiring WP:MEDRS sources. Please read this guideline. Most of your additions to the IF article are not supportable by systematic reviews or meta-analysis of completed, high-quality clinical trials. Please back up and remove non-MEDRS content, including all discussions of animal research which is not sufficiently replicated in review literature. These additions should be introduced on the Talk page first to have consensus among other experienced editors before requiring extensive edits to the article. Source selection and citations

Please review the WPMED welcome above, and the note below. Many of the sources you introduced at Intermittent fasting were not OK.

Just follow the steps 1, 2 and 3 as shown and fill in the details

Thank you for contributing to Misplaced Pages. Remember that when adding content about health, please only use high-quality reliable sources as references. We typically use review articles, major textbooks and position statements of national or international organizations (There are several kinds of sources that discuss health: here is how the community classifies them and uses them). WP:MEDHOW walks you through editing step by step. A list of resources to help edit health content can be found here. The edit box has a built-in citation tool to easily format references based on the PMID or ISBN.

  1. While editing any article or a wikipage, on the top of the edit window you will see a toolbar which says "cite" click on it
  2. Then click on "templates",
  3. Choose the most appropriate template and fill in the details beside a magnifying glass followed by clicking said button,
  4. If the article is available in Pubmed Central, you have to add the pmc parameter manually -- click on "show additional fields" in the template and you will see the "pmc" field. Please add just the number and don't include "PMC".

We also provide style advice about the structure and content of medicine-related encyclopedia articles. The welcome page is another good place to learn about editing the encyclopedia. If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a note. Jytdog (talk) 04:45, 8 November 2018 (UTC)
