Biography
Early life
Dasha Nekrasova was born in Minsk, Belarus to parents who worked as acrobats. At the age of 4, she emigrated to America with her parents.
Nekrasova settled in Las Vegas, Nevada, and went to high school at Las Vegas Academy of the Arts, graduating in 2008. She went on to attend Mills College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Anthropology in 2012.
Career
Nekrasova appeared in a number of low budget short films, features and music videos (for artists such as Antwon, TV Girl, Yumi Zouma and Future Death), before her breakthrough role in Wobble Palace, which she also co-wrote with director Eugene Kotlyarenko. The film was positively received by critics and was nominated for the 2018 SXSW Adam Yauch Hörnblowér Award. She also received praise by The Hollywood Reporter for her performance in the film Softness of Bodies, and will star in Black Earth, the directorial debut of Riley Sweeney Lynch, son of David Lynch.
Nekrasova is known for her political commentary. She received viral attention when in March 2018, she was interviewed by the right-wing media outlet Infowars at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas while promoting Wobble Palace. Her dismissive attitude to the interviewer, and Japanese schoolgirl outfit, earned her the soubriquet "Sailor Socialism". The clip was featured on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.
She is also a co-host on the Red Scare podcast which discusses politics and culture. A profile of Nekrasova and her co-hosts in The Cut described Red Scare as "a critique of feminism, and capitalism, from deep inside the culture they’ve spawned." Nekrasova is a promoter of "Venmo feminism". The show has featured guest appearances from several notable writers, artists, social commentators and leftist figures, including Angela Nagle, Juliana Huxtable and Chapo Trap House's Amber A'lee Frost.
Personal life
Nekrasova has been in a relationship with Adam Friedland of the Cum Town podcast since 2017.
