Cathedral High School is a private, Catholic Institution in Indianapolis, Indiana. It serves over 1,200 students in grades 9 to 12.
The school was founded as a boys' high school in 1918, and was run by the Catholic church until 1960, when it became an independent school run by the Holy Cross Brothers of Notre Dame. Without church funds, however, it ran into financial problems, and in 1972 it faced closure. It was rescued by parents and alumni, who set up a non-profit trust to take over and run the school. The trust was willing to make more sweeping changes to the way the school was run: in 1976 it moved to larger premises and began admitting girls.
While the school is still run as a Catholic organization, and Catholic teachings still form part of the curriculum, there is no requirement that students be Catholics: according to the school, 45% of students are followers of other faiths.
