The Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) is one of the departments of the Statistics Division of the Finance Ministry of Pakistan.

Mission Statement

Federal Bureau of Statistics is committed to providing accurate, reliable, timely, comprehensive and user-friendly information to public, private, national and international organizations. FBS will undertake research, up-to-date its technical knowledge and adopt improved methodologies and new technologies for meeting the future demand of potential users.

Functions

  • Collection and analysis of statistical data about the economy
  • Publication of statistics
  • Provider of statistical data to the Federal and Provincial Governments and other organizations
  • Research into improvements and quality assurance regarding statistics and statistical methods used in Pakistan
  • Exchanging statistical data with foreign countries
  • Technical advice to, and statistical coordination with, other departments
  • Standardization of economic, demographic and other statistical data
  • Advisory and consulting services for statistical projects undertaken by different organizations
  • Evaluation of efficient computation methods for statistical estimation
  • Implementation of the policies of the Statistics Division
  • Organization of the National Census and certain surveys, not including the Population & Housing Census, Agriculture & Livestock Census.
