John Ebnezar, A Padma Shri Awardee and 2 times National Awardee, is an Internationally Renowned Indian orthopedic surgeon from the Indian state of Karnataka, known for promoting Wholistic Orthopedics, a practice combining modern medical techniques with yoga for the management of Osteoarthritis of the knees and other Chronic Orthopaedic problems like lower back pain, neck pain, frozen shoulder etc. He received a Best Research Award from SVYASA Yoga University, Bangalore for his work on OA Knees in 2012 and on the Role of Yoga on fracture treatment (2010).
Multiple Guinness World Record holder
He was twice listed by the Guinness Book of World Records in 2010 and 2012 for the most books written by an individual in one year. He has 6 more Guinness World Records to his credit: 1. GWR for Cancer Screening 2. GWR for Largest Arthritis Lesson 3. GWR for Diabetes Awareness 4. GWR for Blood Donation 5. GWR for Back Care 5. GWR for Foot Care. With 8 GWR he becomes the first doctor in the World with most number of GWR's.
Ebnezar first featured in the Guinness Book of Records in 2010 when he published eight books between February 2009 and January 2010, a world record he subsequently bettered in 2012 by publishing 108 books between January 2011 and January 2012.
Author
He is the most prolific author in the field of Orthopedics in the World and has authored over 200 books, all related to orthopedic science, and is the only Indian orthopedic surgeon to have his books translated into Spanish and Italian. Among his notable books are Textbook of Orthopedics: With Clinical Examination Methods in Orthopedics, John Ebnezar Cbs Handbooks in Orthopedics and Fractures, Step by Step: Injection Techniques in Orthopaedics, Step by Step: Emergency in Orthopaedics, Low Back Pain and Practical Orthopedics.
Awards and Honours
He is a recipient of Rajyotsava Prashasti, the second highest civilian award of the Government of Karnataka, which he received in 2010, Kempegowda Award(2011). The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2016, for his contributions to medical science, thus making him the first orthopedic surgeon from Karnataka to receive the honor. He is also the first and only orthopaedic surgeon from Karnataka to get the coveted Dr BC Roy National Award, the highest award in the field of Medicine in India. He is also the first Orthopedic surgeon in India to receive his 2nd National Award, the Silver Jubillee Research Award by the MCI.
So far he has received more than 275 International, National and State Awards for his outstanding achievements in the field of Orthopaedics,making him one of the most decorated orthopaedic surgeon of India and the World
Research
He has conducted 7 original research on the role of Yoga as an Add-On with Modern Medicine. His 3 research papers on Osteoarthritis of the knees has been used by the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) in framing the 2013 Non-Arthroplasty Treatment Guidelines for the management of OA Knees and has given a STRONG Recommendation apart from suggesting it as a First Line Treatment Option. No other Indian Orthopedic Surgeon has ever had this distinction of being recognized by AAOS.
Social Activities
He is well known for his social service activities and has so far conducted over 300 Free Health and Surgical camps. He has founded his own Trust called the Swaasthya Health Foundation through which he carries out most of his charity activities. He is an active Rotarian and is a member of Rotary Bangalore South which belongs to Dist.3190. Apart from participating in various community of Rotary he has also created 6 of his 8 Guinness world records for RBS thus receving various awards and recognitions for his contributions. He is fondly referred to as "Rotary Ratna" by his Club.
He has thus put Indian Orthopedics on Global Map with his Books, Research and 8 Guiness World Records in Academics,Social Service and Public Health Awareness.
