English and Hindi language Indian news website

The Quint is an English and Hindi language Indian news website founded by Raghav Bahl and Ritu Kapur after their exit from Network18.

The website has spread misinformation, on multiple occasions.

History

The website initially launched in January 2015 on Facebook, a website in March 2015. As of 2016 it has more than 95 editorial staff, and half of its content is original and half from social media and press releases. Most of The Quint's web traffic is from Indian young adolescents. In April 2016, The Quint's parent company Quintillion Media partnered with Bloomberg News to create BloombergQuint.

Tax evasion

In 2018, Raghav Bahl and the office of The Quint were raided by Indian income tax authorities, in connection to an alleged case of alleged tax evasion and money laundering. Bahl rejected the allegations and held the raids to be an attack on free media.

Reception

On 5th January 2018, Chandan Nandi, an op-ed writer with a dubious track-record, wrote a story confirming Kulbhushan Jadhav as an agent of Research and Analysis Wing. The story was picked up by Pakistani media and later, quoted by Pakistan in a related International Court of Justice case. The story was retracted by the Quint.

Factcheckers have documented the site to have spread disinformation, on multiple occasions..
