Bachelor Lake is a lake in Brown County, Minnesota, covering approximately 97 acres, in the northeastern part of Stark township. It is an officially protected water of the State of Minnesota and the tenth largest of the 32 lakes in Brown County. Within Brown County, it is one of three named lakes located in Stark Township. Most of the area's wetlands were drained, leaving only these lakes. It is in the area of rich farm land. It is at an elevation of 1,004 feet (306 m).

As early as 1894, the lake was named for an unmarried pioneer who lived there. It was mentioned before that, though, in a geological study that was conducted from 1872 to 1884.

Coincidentally, among Minnesota's ten thousand lakes, another "Bachelor Lake" is located in Aitkin County, Minnesota.

Notes

  1. Shared lake names are common, of course. Many involve a simple geographic or site descriptor.
  2. Although promoted as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes", Minnesota has 11,842 lakes of 10 acres (4.05 ha) or more. The 1968 state survey found 15,291 lake basins, of which 3,257 were dry. If all basins over 2.5 acres were counted, Minnesota would have 21,871 lakes.
