NASCAR Thunder 2002 is a racing simulator video game developed by EA Tiburon and published by EA Sports and released on August 8, 2001 for the PlayStation, Playstation 2, and Xbox. It is the fifth game in the NASCAR series of video games, and is the first of the series to have a new title (The other games simply read "NASCAR" and then the year). It featured the 2001 NASCAR Winston Cup Champion Jeff Gordon on its cover.

Trivia

  • Dale Earnhardt was cut out from the game, after his death on February 18, 2001. But the player can unlock him by purchasing his thunder plate.
  • This game was the first to feature a choice of day and night races at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Its predecessor, NASCAR 2001, featured both races on the schedule, but the conditions were the same for both races. (The day race, the UAW-GM Quality 500, was later moved to nighttime as well, and has been run at night since 2003.)
