Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Misplaced Pages. Someone must have been lazy, as you have not been welcomed yet. Thank you for your contributions. Since you have been here for a while, we can pretty much assume you are not a troll, vandal, or clueless newbie. I hope you continue to like the place and don't get all grumpy and leave over nothing. Here are a few good links for newcomers, even though you aren't one:

I hope you still enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian, and won't get mad over something stupid and leave! By the way, please be sure to continue to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome, and sorry for your not being welcomed in the past! Omega Directive

Hi, i'm the guy who wrote the page. The problem with the omega particles as represented was that they are meant to be unstable, but the aliens who created it were trying to stabilise it to give their culture a future (using resonance frequency or some other piece of treknobabble). The question is unresolved in the episode although they seem to form a pattern before they are destroyed. It's just a funny old universe really. Does this help? Pydos 11:49, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

Plame Affair

Hi, I noticed your question about Wilson's politicial contributions on Talk:Plame_affair. I pulled up some info from the FECinfo political contributions database, which indexes the free, public contributions info. I hope this helps. I found the receipt for Wilson's contribution to Bush's campaign in the 2000 election cycle, but I did not find any contributions to Gore. The Kerry contributions start in May 2003, I believe. --Zippy 16:19, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

The date

He said himself that, as soon as he discovered it, he got things moving. September was when the anonymous user wrote the article. --VKokielov 01:45, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

I don't know...Let's ask Jimbo. Otherwise, I believe you. --VKokielov 05:26, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
MAY?!
What scared me was that he might have discovered it in September, but written the article in USA Today only in December. He di', di'n't he?
Aw, hell. What could compel him, after three months, to crap on us? Brr. --VKokielov 17:44, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

Irish people peer review?

The additions and editions made on this page even within recent weeks - especily photos - has vastly improved it, to the better I think. Would you support it being submitted for a peer review, and help tidy it up/add some more? Fergananim 14:47, 22 December 2005 (UTC)

BYU Religious Requirements

You asked the following about the Brigham Young University page:

I'm a bit confused by the above statement. It seems to suggest non-LDS students need to regularly attend some sort of religious service. This would imply that atheists, agonostics, and non practicing religious individuals can't attend BYU. I also wonder what happens with religions where regular attendance of some sort of religious service is not compulsory or even generally common, e.g. Buddhism, Hinduism, or even Sikhism which is mentioned in reference in the article later on. Can anyone help clarify the matter? is my interpretation correct?

As far as I know, the endorsement by a religious leader simply states that the student in question is living by the standards his religion requires.  If attendance of services is one of these requirements, than the leader shouldn't endorse the student if he doesn't regularly attend services.  If, though, as you ask, attendance of services is not required, I can't see why a student would not be endorsed for not attending.  Basically, just live by the tenets of your religion, and you'll be fine.

Hope that helps!  Merry Christmas!

Answers.com

You've probably realised by now but if not, answers.com copies stuff from Misplaced Pages, fully legally and identified as from Misplaced Pages. So if you see stuff there that is the same here, it's probably because they copied it from us... Nil Einne 15:06, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, you're only the fifth person to tell me that. :p Rogue 9 17:55, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

Sloths

Oh man, I wish. I took that picture during a spring break trip around Costa Rica. I actually got to hold that sloth in my arms. It was so cool. Anyway, the camera I used has both still, audio, and video capabilities. Unfortunately I didn't have the memory card space to shoot video while I was there as the place I was staying during the time I took the sloth pictures didn't have internet access so I couldn't upload the photos to clear space. That was horrible grammar. Wait, there was internet access in that town. Hmm. Oh, I know what the deal was. The room we were in had large, almost floor to ceiling, windows all the way around and was on the top floor of the building. This meant that all pictures were backlit. I had to use a flash to balance it out and then adjust the brightness. Shooting quality video from a palm-sized digital camera would have been near impossible. Thanks for giving me an excuse to go back there, though. Now I just have to convince my parents to donate airfare and a week's lodging so I can shoot a 10 second video segment for Misplaced Pages. :) —WAvegetarianCONTRIBUTIONS19:32, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

AFD

Remeber the Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Charlie Sheen and Alex Jones interviews? It reached nothing even remotly resembling consensus, but it was deleted anyway? Please join the debate regarding undeleting it. I view this as nothing more as the majority imposing their will on the minority, in a blatant violation of the spirit of wikipedia --Striver 22:08, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

Belly dance

I don't see what's PoV about the fact that there was a craze. With regard to your actual edit, I agree that the "for us" shouldn't be there, but not for the reason that you gave. It had nothing to do with people being interested in what happened in the West (though why do you assume that readers won't be interested in that?); the article said that it was good fortune because it led to the making of films of dancers in the late-nineteenth century that would otherwise not have been made. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 14:36, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Labour Party Troubles

Hi Nil!

I've noticed your comment on the current scandals of the Labour Party - I've tried to write accurate articles however you will find that hard-core Labour fans are removing them as fast as you can write them, also my grammar and style isn't excellent therefore I have tried to stick to the facts, but please feel free to make changes anywhere on Wiki. United Nations

Hey,

We're starting a small wiki dedicated to Foreign Policy and UN Research. We're pretty new at the whole wiki thing, but you seem to have made some solid foreign policy posts. We'd love your expertise if you've got the time to possibly answer some questions and contribute. Interested? External copyvios

Greetings. In regard to Lonelygirl15, you asked about linking to a copyvio. We generally don't have a problem with linking to copyright violations. That sort of thing isn't usually handled on WP:CP. All the best, – Quadell 12:24, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, it's no problem at all. I actually didn't even know we were going to feature the article since I haven't been following my watchlist for the past few months. Hope you enjoyed the article. :) Johnleemk | Talk 09:42, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Trash Message

I'd ask you to not talk trash about what I believe personally, so please quit it and do not "message" me unless you have something viable and/or interesting to look at or inform me of. I don't like trash on my wiki profile. If you didn't intend for that paragraph to mean as what I applied above... then please inform me of this, however, writing if "homosexuals should not be married, then don't allow lawyers, politicians, etc" or whatever you implied is offensive to me, and un-called for. IronCrow 00:45, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Saddam

No problem, been a bit hectic there today for obvious reasons. Thanks for the message, Badgerpatrol 04:59, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Its time to bomb Saddam!

I'm terrble with graphics, but I just wanted to give a "thanks" for the Trials of Saddam Hussesin article, you're a better man than me Gunga Din! 14:56, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Re: Heggedal

Thanks for your comments! I'll see whether I can sort out the rest of the mess - Mr Weern doesn't appear in my encyclopedia as a composer either, so I'm guessing that's a hoax too. Sam Vimes | Address me 18:50, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Misinformed

Thank you for the message you left on my talk page regarding my contribution to the Trial of Saddam Hussein article. If you read my contribution carefully ('Prime Minister Tony Blair stated that he is "against the death penalty, whether it is Saddam Hussein or anybody else".') you will see that none of those words are "he stopped short of condeming the verdict". That edit was made by the contributor who followed me. Please be more careful in future. 84.92.93.58 19:33, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

AnonEMouse RfA

Hi. I saw your comments on User:AnonEMouse's RfA page. I am supporting the RfA, because AnonEMouse has made valuable contributions in several areas, but I also share what I believe might be some of your concerns about some of the edits in the thread under scrutiny. If, as you indicate, you are going to be bringing up related matters somewhere else after the RfA closes, I'd be interested to know where the discussion takes place. Regards, Newyorkbrad 01:54, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Talk:Saddam Hussesin

Sorry about that, I must have overridden an edit conflict. Sorry about that, must not have even noticed that. Usually, I deal in much more obscure corners of wikipedia so I rarely come across edit conflicts... Cheers V. Joe 13:16, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Re: welcome etc

Hey, thanks for the message you left me welcoming me etc.. it was nice to find that there, and thanks for all the links. See ya around then! LibLord 00:38, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Nil Einne Defender of Justice

Yeah, umm I just gave you a official Level 20 warning and you have been prohibited from doing anything on Misplaced Pages for the rest of this week. If your offenses continue to add up you will be given a yellow ticket, a swift kick, a goat and sent to somewhere in Mexico in a box. Please stop the offenses and work together. And by the way ummmm yeah uhhh nice message I am glad to know you are very PERSONAL with your Misplaced Pages, just calm down and walk away. Watch for the Bowstaff. Oh and by the way send me another one of those stop signs, I LOVE those they add color to my discussion I will try to send you one as soon as possible. Bowstaffer

Nil Einne Reciever of the Yellow Card

Yeah, ummmmm someone has emotional issues. And by the way I dare you to edit something, try it I triple dog dare you. Oh and if you think that I would go to Malaysia and ship you to Mexico you are retarded and live in your dark room picking mushrooms. Stop ruining everyones life and go back to listening to Josh Groban and watching Star Trek. You have also recieved the official yellow card and have one the, "I Like giving People Warnings and Stop Sign" award. Give me another please, come on you didn't answer my request. Tell me how to do it. Bowstaffer

User:Nil Einne/Sandbox

Per Misplaced Pages:Fair_use#Policy, "Fair use images may be used only in the article namespace." I came across your "sandbox" page that makes extensive use of fair-use images, and before I went through and de-included them all, I wanted to provide you the opportunity to do so. — pd_THOR | 12:15, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Mel Gibson mugshot photo

I didn't want to take the entire discussion at the fair use pages, so I wanted to bring this to you. The mugshot photo taken of Gibson was taken by the LASD, the police agency that arrested and booked Gibson. I found out from their terms of service that their images are non-commercial only (which is against our policies). Some believe that mugshot photos are PD upon creation, but it is only true in some areas. I tried to contact the LASD about the clarification of the photo, but no response was made by them. I know Mel doesn't like the photo, but my main goal is to make sure the license is right. I hope this should be enough to explain the situation. User:Zscout370 02:46, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Don't Bite.

On the main page talk, someone asked this:
The Socialist Party gains in Dutch elections, while Jan Peter Balkenende's (pictured) Christian Democrats retain their plurality" is it plurality or popularity ?--Pixel ;-) 12:36, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

You answered:
Plurality is a well understood English word with a specific meaning when it comes to elections. This is the normal English wikipedia, not the simple one. Do you suggest we give up on all words and just don't communicate? Nil Einne 11:43, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

I wonder if you found that very nice, very helpful, or very wiki at all. Because I found it the opposite of those things.

Read this.

Furthermore, User:Pixel ;-) was merely asking a question, not asserting anything. He or she wasking for help, or for an answer, and instead had you jumping down his or her throat. Grow up and don't be an ass. Post to my Talk if you have qualms or queries. Cheers. Shagmaestro 14:25, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

I read your post to my talk page, and I apologise for taking your comments out of context. It was my error, and I certainly jumped at you the way I asked you not to jump at others. I apologise for being a hypocrite as well as an ass myself. Case closed! Shagmaestro 15:41, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
Well this one ain't closed. I think that your comments on the Humanities ref desk about the "photographs" of John Ingram were uncivil and did not assume good faith. Sure the OP was ambiguous, but I think they deserved a little more credit than to be ridiculed and accused of trolling. Please chill a little. --Dweller 15:54, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Re: Labels

Got your note on labels and Selenium Sulfide. Good call there, I didn't realize that there was at least one flavor of H&S that used this as its active - though I'll note that H&S' web paged didn't make note of the ingredients, it only pointed out that Se. Sulfide is a common ingredient.

For what it's worth, no offense taken.

Thanks again for the pointer! --Dennis The TIger 06:04, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
