Violet-Anne Wynne is an Irish Sinn Féin politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Clare constituency since the 2020 general election.

Early and personal life

Wynne is from Kilrush, County Clare. She attended St Colman's National School in Tullamore, County Offaly and the Coláiste Muire in Blakestown. She studied Psychology at Trinity College Dublin. She has five children. She is a former member of the reserve defense forces.

Vaccines

Following her election, Philip Ryan, author of the hagiographic "Leo Varadkar - A Very Modern Taoiseach", published a news article in the Irish Independent suggesting that Wynne proposed some Vaccine hesitancy views. Consequently, Wynne received criticism on twitter from the National Women's Council of Ireland who said "this sort of misinformation is dangerous, and puts women's lives at risk", while outgoing Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar said that this was "evidence that Sinn Fein... don’t believe in science". The Sinn Féin press office said Ms Wynne's comments were "old remarks" which did not "reflect Sinn Féin policy".
