Robert Hodges, more commonly known by his self-styled moniker Prince Mongo, is a minor political personality in Memphis, Tennessee, who has run for Mayor of Memphis and mayor of Shelby County since the 1970s. He has continuously ran in every Memphis mayoral election since 1991. He tends to be known locally for his eccentric personality. Though much of his life remains unknown, he claims to have been born on the planet Zambodia around 333 years ago. He owns multiple properties, including a $2 million home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as well as two other properties in Memphis, Tennessee, and Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Mayoral elections and political activism

Prince Mongo has continuously ran in every Memphis mayoral election since the 1991 as an Independent, though he has had earlier campaigns for mayor of Memphis and mayor of Shelby County starting in the 1970s. Despite this, he has never acquired any political office in his lifetime. His recurring campaigns run on unusual proposals, such as the erection of casinos and prisons on Mud Island; the infiltration of sharks into the Mississippi River and Memphis Harbor as to prevent prisoner escapes; as well as weekly public hangings on Court Square that would each be scheduled to be hosted at specifically 3:33 PM. In 2018, Prince Mongo expressed criticism for the removal of the Confederate statues of Nathan Bedford Forrest and Jefferson Davis.

Criminal charges and controversies

Prince Mongo was once sentenced to 10 years in prison for dumping trash on his rival's yard.

Incident at Ashlar Hall

In 1990, Prince Mongo bought Ashlar Hall and made it a nightclub. In 1992, lawsuits were issued against him concerning the death of two teenagers who died in drunk driving accidents after being served alcohol at his nightclub.
