Tata College, is one of the oldest degree college in the West Singhbhum district in Jharkhand state. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in arts and sciences. The college has 19 departments offering 27 programs. It is affiliated to Kolhan University.

Location

The college is located at Bypass Road in Chaibasa in the Jharkhand state. The location is well connected by road to all major places in Jharkhand.

History

Tata College was established on January 27, 1954. The existing sprawling campus buildings viz. Arts & Science Blocks, Administrative Unit, Hostels, Teachers’ Quarters, Indoor Stadium, Gymnasiums and Play Grounds spread over an area of 38 acres of land donated by the local villagers with the leadership of Late Sri P.C. Birua, the founder Secretary, was designed and constructed by the Tata Industrial House. The College became a Constituent Unit of Ranchi University in the year 1961. Kolhan University was established in 2009 at Chaibasa and the college became a constitute unit of the university.

Facilities

Recently, the college has taken initiatives to make the campus more techno-savvy, as a result the campus become fully Wi-Fi enabled which is available freely to the students and staff. The Central Library of the college is enabled with INFLIBINET subscription with adequate facility of reprography. All the departments and sections are well equipped with computers and internets along with printers and scanners. The challenge of electric power management has been recently resolved with installation of high capacity transformer, centralized generator and adequate numbers of inverters and UPSes. The management is planning to provide classrooms with ICT facilities and to connect all classrooms with the presently available well equipped Audio-Visual room. The college is also going to bring the benefit of Spoken Tutorial project by MNE through ICT to all its students.
