15.ai is a freeware artificial intelligence web application that generates high-quality voices from an assortment of fictional characters from a variety of media sources. Developed by an anonymous MIT researcher under the eponymous pseudonym 15, the website uses a combination of audio synthesis algorithms and speech synthesis deep neural networks to generate and serve character voices in real-time. The project began development in 2018 while the developer was an undergraduate at MIT and was inspired by the 2019 paper that pioneered transfer learning for text-to-speech models.
Characters
Initial characters included GLaDOS from Portal, Twilight Sparkle and Fluttershy from the show My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, and the Tenth Doctor from Doctor Who. Subsequent updates included Wheatley from Portal 2, the Soldier from Team Fortress 2, and the remaining main cast of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.
